Background and Objectives: The present study aims to evaluate the iron stores in plasmapheresis donors and develop and validate an iron deficiency (ID) risk prediction model for plasmapheresis donors with potential or existing ID. Materials and Methods: We assessed plasmapheresis donors' serum ferritin (SF) and haemoglobin (Hb) levels. The candidate factors showing significant differences in the multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to establish a risk prediction scoring system. The participants were divided into a training cohort and an internal validation cohort in a 7:3 ratio. Additional plasmapheresis donors from a different station were recruited for external validation. Results: The SF levels in both male and female donors in the high‐frequency group were significantly lower than those of new donors (male: p < 0.001; female: p = 0.008). The prevalence of ID in female regular donors with a high frequency was significantly higher than that in new donors (33.1% vs. 24.6%; odds ratio = 1.209 [95% CI: 1.035–1.412]). Donation frequency, age, Hb, body mass index and being pre‐menopausal were identified as independent risk factors for ID (p < 0.05). The developed model exhibited good discrimination ability (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve >0.7) and calibration (p > 0.05) in development, internal validation cohorts and external validation cohorts. Conclusion: A higher donation frequency has been associated with reduced SF levels and an increased risk of ID in women. The underground utility tunnels accommodate various types of urban lifelines, which are of great significance for improving the living standards of the citizens. With the rapid development of underground utility tunnels, the large-scale underground utility tunnel systems are gradually becoming the operational lifeblood of China's large cities. Currently, most of the underground utility tunnels' risks are estimated and analyzed from a static perspective, and the analysis results are one-sided. This study proposes a dynamic risk evaluation framework. A risk assessment and sensitivity analysis framework based on Bayesian network is established in this study. Combined with the groundwater and electric tunnel risk accident case study, the operation and maintenance data of Beijing Future Science and Technology City from 2010 to 2018 are collected for learning to obtain the conditional probability of the Bayesian network node by using the K2 algorithm. The overall evolution process from the beginning to the end of groundwater tunnel accidents is clearly described and displayed. Through sensitivity analysis and critical path analysis, the critical points of an accident and the probabilities of risk occurrence are identified and predicted. Background: Facial injection has become popular in aesthetic dermatology. Although injections of these tissue fillers are considered a low-risk procedure, they are not without potentially significant drawbacks. Case Presentation: We would like to report a case about cutaneous Mycobacterium abscessus infection after facial injection of hyaluronic acid in China, which obtained satisfactory clinical efficacy by drainage and surgical excision. Conclusion: Biological techniques are useful in the diagnosis of cutaneous M. abscessus infection. Surgical excision of skin lesion is effective for cutaneous M. abscessus infection. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies in China. Most HCC patients are first diagnosed at an advanced stage, and systemic treatments are the mainstay of treatment. Summary: In recent years, immune checkpoint inhibitors have made a breakthrough in the systemic treatment of middle-advanced HCC, breaking the single therapeutic pattern of molecular-targeted agents. To better guide the clinical treatment for effective and safe use of immunotherapeutic drugs, the Chinese Association of Liver Cancer and Chinese Medical Doctor Association has gathered multidisciplinary experts and scholars in relevant fields to formulate the "Chinese Clinical Expert Consensus on Immunotherapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (2021)" based on current clinical studies and clinical medication experience for reference in China. Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) is very common and it plays a major role in the prognosis and clinical staging of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We have published the first version of the guideline in 2016 and revised in 2018. Over the past several years, many new evidences for the treatment of PVTT become available, especially for the advent of new targeted drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors which have further improved the prognosis of PVTT. So, the Chinese Association of Liver Cancer and Chinese Medical Doctor Association revised the 2018 version of the guideline to adapt to the development of PVTT treatment. Background: The outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in serious concerns in China and abroad. To investigate clinical features of confirmed and suspected patients with COVID-19 in west China, and to examine differences between severe versus non-severe patients.Methods: Patients admitted for COVID-19 between January 21 and February 11 from fifteen hospitals in Sichuan Province, China were included. Experienced clinicians trained with methods abstracted data from medical records using pre-defined, pilot-tested forms. Clinical characteristics between severe and non-severe patients were compared.Results: Of the 169 patients included, 147 were laboratory-confirmed, 22 were suspected. For confirmed cases, the most common symptoms from onset to admission were cough (70·7%), fever (70·5%) and sputum (33·3%), and the most common chest CT patterns were patchy or stripes shadowing (78·0%); throughout the course of disease, 19·0% had no fever, and 12·4% had no radiologic abnormality; twelve (8·2%) received mechanical ventilation, four (2·7%) were transferred to ICU, and no death occurred. Compared to non-severe cases, severe ones were more likely to have underlying comorbidities (62·5% vs 26·2%, P = 0·001), to present with cough (92·0% vs 66·4%, P = 0·02), sputum (60·0% vs 27·9%, P = 0·004) and shortness of breath (40·0% vs 8·2%, P <  0·0001), and to have more frequent lymphopenia (79·2% vs 43·7%, P = 0·003) and eosinopenia (84·2% vs 57·0%, P = 0·046).Conclusions: The symptoms of patients in west China were relatively mild, and an appreciable proportion of infected cases had no fever, warranting special attention. To elucidate the influence of rape straw returning on soil reducibility and to understand its effects on rice growth and yield in rape‐rice rotation system, 3 years field experiment with 8 treatments of straw incorporation carried out at Mianyang Sichuan Province of China. Results showed that the lowest RCEh value founded at 14–18 d after rice planting; With the increasing of rape straw incorporation, the amount of root (number, weight and length) and root bleeding intensity both increased significantly during 27–32 d after rice planting; 0–20 d are the fast decomposing period of rape straw in rice field. At 10–22 d after rice planting, there is negative correlation between rice root growth and soil reducibility and a negative correlation between rice root and straw incorporation. Oil seed rape straw returning into soil, either by mulching or by ploughing, make the soil more reducible with lower Eh and higher content of reducing material, Fe2+ and hinder the growth of rice root with lower amount (length, weight and number) and bleeding density during this period. Comparing with other straw returning methods, straw returning by ploughing method with the rape straw of 3.0 t/hm2 is more suitable in rice‐rape rotation farms where is convenient for mechanical operation. Background: Sub-threshold depression is common and could impair function, as well as increase the risk of developing major depression. Despite evidence of efficacy for electroacupuncture (EA) and counseling in the treatment of sub-threshold depression, the sample size is insufficient and the level of evidence remains low. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of sub-threshold depression treatments by comparing the treatment effects among EA, counseling, and combination therapy, as well as to further study their mechanism. Methods: This study is a multicenter, randomized, single blind clinical trial that will be conducted in settings at four clinical centers in China. The randomized controlled trial (RCT) will examine the effectiveness of EA intervention, compared with counseling and combination therapy. A total of 138 sub-threshold depression patients (18 to 55 years of age with Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) score ≥ 14 points and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-17) score: 7 points ≤ HAMD total score <17 points) will be recruited. The participants will be randomly assigned to receive the above treatments. The interventions will be delivered over a 6-week period (EA: 3 times a week for 6 weeks; 30 min a session. Counseling: once a week for 6 weeks; 50–60 min a session). The primary outcome measure will be the HAMD-17; BDI-II. The secondary outcome measures will be: Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The assessments will occur at baseline, 2, 4, and 6 weeks and a follow-up period. Recruitment will commence in March 2020 and is anticipated to occur over a 2-year period. Discussion: This study intends to conduct a multicenter randomized controlled trial to compare the effectiveness among EA, counseling and the combined therapy in the treatment of patients with sub-threshold depression, and to further study the mechanisms of effect. Railway capacity has been extensively investigated for the purpose of utilizing rail infrastructure in a possible efficient strategy. Nevertheless, the estimation of high speed rail (HSR), which is different from common railways in many aspects, is still a challenge work needed to be solved. Consequently, this work focuses on the capacity estimation of HSR corridor. The objectives and constraints are developed for the HSR with the consideration of passenger service level and buffer time uncertainty, and a two-stage optimization model is proposed. The first stage determines the optimal number of trains in terms of the passenger origin-destination demand, and the second stage is a multi-objective mixed integer programming (MO-MIP) aiming to estimate the optimal capacity usage. The branch-and-bound algorithm is extended and applied to the proposed model, and a case study is performed to Beijing-Shanghai HSR line. Background: The objective was to analyze and evaluate the effects of strategic measures the Chinese government attempted and undertook throughout the fast-changing and difficult transition periods of the blood service system.Study Design and Methods: We systematically reviewed data and information regarding policy, blood collection, service system, and clinical transfusion practice, which were the most representative indicators on a national level from 1978 to 2015.Results: Blood donation in China has successfully transitioned from paid donation, then compulsory (but nonremunerated) donation, to voluntary nonremunerated donation. The volume of blood collection has steadily increased from 4,000,000 red blood cell (RBC; 200 mL/unit) units in 1998 to 22,000,000 RBC units in 2014. The percentage of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transfusion-transmitted infections in newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS has reduced from 29.6% in 2005 to less than 0.15% in 2013. The use of component therapy has increased from 18% in 1989 to 99% in 2014.Conclusions: Involvement of the government through enforcement of new statutes and regulations helped improve blood safety and clinical transfusion practice. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate market power in dairy industry in China. Specifically, the authors analyze market power for different firm size, locations of region, and city empirically. Design/methodology/approach – The authors estimate the market power by controlling the unobserved price heterogeneity. The econometric model was developed through a typical production function. The authors added three dummy variables to differentiate firms of different sizes, at urban or rural locations, and in east or other regions, according to the characteristics of the dairy industry. A sample including 511 observations were used to do the regression. Findings – The results show that Chinese dairy industry as a whole is a competitive industry in general, while the large firms have gained considerable market power. The firms locate in the eastern area grow slower than firms locate in the middle and western area. Originality/value – The authors believe that this is the first study to analyze the market power in China’s dairy industry by controlling the unobserved price heterogeneity. This study assessed the prevalence, species and subtypes of Cryptosporidium in goats from Guangdong Province, Hubei Province, Shandong Province, and Shanghai City of China. Six hundred and four fecal samples were collected from twelve goat farms, and the overall infection rate was 11.4% (69/604). Goats infected with Cryptosporidium were found in eleven farms across four provincial areas, and the infection rate ranged from 2.9% (1/35) to 25.0% (9/36). Three Cryptosporidium species were identified. Cryptosporidium xiaoi (45/69, 65.2%) was the dominant species, followed by C. parvum (14/69, 20.3%) and C. ubiquitum (10/69, 14.5%). The infection rate of Cryptosporidium spp. was varied with host age and goat kids were more susceptible to be infected than adult goats. Subtyping C. parvum and C. ubiquitum positive samples revealed C. parvum subtype IIdA19G1 and C. ubiquitum subtype XIIa were the most common subtypes. Other C. parvum subtypes were detected as well, such as IIaA14G2R1, IIaA15G1R1, IIaA15G2R1 and IIaA17G2R1. All of these subtypes have also been detected in humans, suggesting goats may be a potential source of zoonotic cryptosporidiosis. This was the first report of C. parvum subtypes IIaA14G2R1, IIaA15G1R1 and IIaA17G2R1 infecting in goats and the first molecular identification of C. parvum and its subtypes in Chinese goats. Abstract: In this paper we revisit the debate on the role of vertical integration in the energy sectors: whether vertical integration between coal and electricity sectors is a path to create a competitive electricity market in China. We discuss coal-power conflict and potential anti-competitive concerns related to vertical integration, such as raise rival’s cost and collusion, and suggest that regulators and policy makers should pay more attention to the behavior of integrated companies. In particular, they should balance the tradeoff of vertical integration between coal and electricity companies and ensure that efficiency gains should offset anti-competitive effects. Abstract: A survey on prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. in pigs at 12 farms in 8 suburban districts and 1 county of Shanghai was conducted under Sheather''s sucrose flotation protocol and modified acid-fast stain methods from 2006 to 2009. A total of 2323 faecal samples were collected and Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts were detected in 800 samples (34.4%). Cryptosporidium was found in all 12 pig farms. Significant variations of prevalence were observed in different farms ranging from 14.1% to 90.6%. A follow-up survey on a positive pig farm for 13 consecutive months revealed that the most serious infection of Cryptosporidium spp. in pigs happened in winter and spring, and the lowest infection season was summer. Cryptosporidium spp. infection was mainly found in piglets within 2 months and no infection was found among those pigs of 90–180 days of age. The genotype analyses were carried out through PCR-RFLP and partial sequences analysis of small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) in some of the positive samples. Cryptosporidium suis (57/69, 82.6%), Cryptosporidium pig genotype II (6/69, 8.7%) and mixed infection of above two species/genotype (6/69, 8.7%) were found to be the main species/genotype in pigs in Shanghai area. Importance: The pathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) may involve altered dendritic morphology, but in vivo imaging of neurite morphology in OCD remains limited. Such changes must be interpreted functionally within the context of the multimodal neuroimaging approach to OCD., Objective: To examine whether dendritic morphology is altered in patients with OCD compared with healthy controls (HCs) and whether such alterations are associated with other brain structural metrics in pathological networks., Design, Setting, and Participants: This case-control study used cross-sectional data, including multimodal brain images and clinical symptom assessments, from 108 patients with OCD and 108 HCs from 2014 to 2017. Patients with OCD were recruited from Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai, China, and HCs were recruited via advertisements. The OCD group comprised unmedicated adults with a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fourth Edition) (DSM-IV) diagnosis of OCD, while the HCs were adults without any DSM-IV diagnosis, matched for age, sex, and education level. Data were analyzed from September 2019 to April 2023., Exposure: DSM-IV diagnosis of OCD., Main Outcomes and Measures: Multimodal brain imaging was used to compare neurite microstructure and classic morphometries between patients with OCD and HCs. The whole brain was searched to identify regions exhibiting altered morphology in patients with OCD and explore the interplay between the brain metrics representing these alterations. Brain-symptom correlations were analyzed, and the performance of different brain metric configurations were evaluated in distinguishing patients with OCD from HCs., Results: Among 108 HCs (median [IQR] age, 26 [23-31] years; 50 [46%] female) and 108 patients with OCD (median [IQR] age, 26 [24-31] years; 46 [43%] female), patients with OCD exhibited deficient neurite density in the right lateral occipitoparietal regions (peak t = 3.821; P ≤ .04). Classic morphometries also revealed widely-distributed alterations in the brain (peak t = 4.852; maximum P = .04), including the prefrontal, medial parietal, cingulate, and fusiform cortices. These brain metrics were interconnected into a pathological brain network associated with OCD symptoms (global strength: HCs, 0.253; patients with OCD, 0.941; P = .046; structural difference, 0.572; P < .001). Additionally, the neurite density index exhibited high discriminatory power in distinguishing patients with OCD from HCs (accuracy, ≤76.85%), and the entire pathological brain network also exhibited excellent discriminative classification properties (accuracy, ≤82.87%)., Conclusions and Relevance: The findings of this case-control study underscore the utility of in vivo imaging of gray matter dendritic density in future OCD research and the development of neuroimaging-based biomarkers. They also endorse the concept of connectopathy, providing a potential framework for interpreting the associations among various OCD symptom-related morphological anomalies.

Background: The combination of antiarrhythmic drugs with traditional Chinese formulas are used treatments for the management of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). However, the most effective treatment for PAF has yet to be been determined. A Bayesian network meta-analysis study was thus performed for comparing the relative efficacy and tolerability of different treatment alternatives., Methods: A comprehensive literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) is performed from eight database. Maintenance rate of sinus rhythm (MRSR), p-wave dispersion (Pd), left atrium diameter (LAD), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and adverse events (AEs) were used as outcomes. We also estimated treatment rank based on the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA). This study was performed using a Bayesian network meta-analysis with a random-effects model., Findings: After screening, 59 RCTs involving 5,543 patients and 16 treatments were included. The results showed that Shensong-Yangxin capsule (SSYX) plus amiodarone (81%) was the most effective treatment for MRSR according to the value of SUCRA, followed by Wenxin-Keli granules (WXKL) plus amiodarone (73%). Meanwhile, SSYX plus amiodarone (7%) was most likely to reduce Pd, followed by SSYX plus metoprolol (23%), WXKL plus amiodarone (26%), WXKL plus bisoprolol (27%). Furthermore, SSYX plus amiodarone (4%) was more effective in improving LAD. WXKL plus amiodarone was preferred because it had the lowest toxicity. For benefit-risk ratio, amiodarone combined with WXKL or SSYX appeared to be the best option., Conclusion: Antiarrhythmic agents combined with traditional Chinese formulas had higher efficacy and lower toxicity than other treatment alternatives. Objective: To develop a virtual reality simulation training programme, and further verify the effect of the programme on improving the response capacity of emergency reserve nurses confronting public health emergencies., Design: A prospective quasiexperimental design with a control group., Participants: A total of 120 nurses were recruited and randomly divided into the control group and the intervention group., Intervention: Participants underwent a 3-month training. The control group received the conventional training of emergency response (eg, theoretical lectures, technical skills and psychological training), while the intervention group underwent the virtual reality simulation training in combination with skills training. The COVID-19 cases were incorporated into the intervention group training, and the psychological training was identical to both groups. At the end of the training, each group conducted emergency drills twice. Before and after the intervention, the two groups were assessed for the knowledge and technical skills regarding responses to fulminate respiratory infectious diseases, as well as the capacity of emergency care. Furthermore, their pandemic preparedness was assessed with a disaster preparedness questionnaire., Results: After the intervention, the scores of the relevant knowledge, the capacity of emergency care and disaster preparedness in the intervention group significantly increased (p<0.01). The score of technical skills in the control group increased more significantly than that of the intervention group (p<0.01). No significant difference was identified in the scores of postdisaster management in two groups (p>0.05)., Conclusion: The virtual reality simulation training in combination with technical skills training can improve the response capacity of emergency reserve nurses as compared with the conventional training. Objective: To analyze the clinical features of a Chinese pedigree affected with tuberculosis sclerosis and explore its molecular pathogenesis., Methods: Clinical data of the proband and members of his pedigree were collected. Whole exome sequencing was carried out to detect variants of the TSC1 and TSC2 genes. Candidate variants was verified by Sanger sequencing and bioinformatic analysis., Results: The proband and his mother, who also had mild features of tuberous sclerosis, were found to harbor a novel heterozygous c.4183C>T (p.Q1395X) variant of the TSC2 gene, which was absent in the 4 healthy relatives. Bioinformatic analysis suggested the variant to be likely pathogenic., Conclusion: The heterozygous c.4183C>T (p.Q1395X) variant of the TSC2 gene probably underlay the disease in this pedigree. Above finding has expanded the spectrum of TSC2 gene variants. The more severe symptoms in the proband may be attributed to phenotypic heterogeneity of this disease.

Although Zika virus (ZIKV) infection is mainly transmitted through mosquito bite, it can also be transmitted through blood transfusion. More than 500 000 cases of ZIKV infection were reported in the Americas from 2015 to 2016. Up till now, over 10 cases of imported ZIKV infection have been reported due to frequent international exchanges in the Shenzhen city of Guangdong Province, China. Unfortunately, there were no data on ZIKV infection in Chinese blood donors because it has not been included in routine screening for volunteer blood donors. As such, we performed a preliminary survey of the prevalence of ZIKV infection among volunteer blood donors in Shenzhen, China, to assess the potential risk of ZIKV infection through transfusion. A total of 9626 blood donor samples were collected and ZIKA RNA was detected by transcription-mediated amplification (TMA) nucleic acid amplification method with the Panther nucleic acid automatic analysis system of Grifols, Spain, including Procleix ZIKV Assay reagent. All the experiments in this study were conducted in accordance with the standard operating procedure of the blood center. Of the 9626 donor blood samples tested, none of these samples was Zika RNA reactive. There was no positive case from ZIKV RNA screening in this preliminary survey. There was no ZIKV presence in blood donors in Shenzhen, China, from this preliminary survey. The potential risk of ZIKV infection by transfusion is low in Shenzhen at this moment. Aims: Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis gene polymorphisms have been reported to affect aggressive behavior. Corticotropin releasing hormone binding protein ( CRHBP ) polymorphisms have been shown to contribute to the susceptibility to stress-related disorders, including aggressive behavior. However, no study has been conducted on the relationship between CRHBP polymorphisms and aggressive behavior risk in the Han Chinese population. Methods: A case-control study that comprised 194 male criminals and 303 healthy controls was carried out to investigate the genetic association between several CRHBP gene polymorphisms and aggressive behavior risk in the Hunan Han population. Genotyping was conducted by using the improved multiplex ligase detection reaction method for four CRHBP loci: rs10062367, rs32897, rs7718461, and rs7721799. Results: The incidence of the rs32897C allele was significantly lower in the robbery group compared with the control subjects after a Bonferroni correction ( p  = 0.016), indicating a protective role for the C allele of rs32897. Interestingly, a haplotypic analysis that was stratified by robbery and intentional injury showed that the haplotype consisting of rs10062367G, rs32897C, rs7718461A, and rs7721799G (which includes the protective rs32897 C allele) was significantly associated with decreased robbery risk (odds ratio [OR] = 0.31, p  = 0.0005), but not for intentional injury (OR = 0.82, p  = 0.44). The haplotype consisting of rs10062367G, rs32897T, rs7718461A, and rs7721799G carrying the rs32897 T allele significantly increased the risk for robbery (OR = 1.47, p  = 0.0213), but not for intentional injury (OR = 0.92, p  = 0.64). Conclusions: The rs32897 alleles and the haplotypes containing the rs32897 alleles, including GCAG and GTAG, may be factors associated with committing robbery in the Hunan Han population, and could be used to provide clinical counseling with regard to aggressive behavior. However, further studies including multiple ethnicities are needed.

Background: Fecal incontinence is a socially and emotionally destructive condition that has a negative impact on personal image, self-confidence, and quality of life. Acupuncture is commonly used to treat chronic conditions, including fecal incontinence. However, no relevant systematic review or meta-analysis has been designed to evaluate the effects of acupuncture on fecal incontinence., Methods: We will identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from the Cochrane Library, Medline, Embase, PubMed, Springer, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Chinese Science and Technology Journals Database, Wanfang database, and clinical trial registration center from their inception to February 28, 2019. The primary outcome measures will be clinical effective rate, functional outcomes, and quality of life. Data that meets the inclusion criteria will be extracted and analyzed using RevMan V.5.3 software. Two reviewers will evaluate the studies using the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. Publication bias will be assessed by funnel plots, Egger test, and Begg test using the Stata software. Acupoints characteristics will be analyzed by Traditional Chinese Medicine inheritance support system., Results: This study will analyze the clinical effective rate, functional outcomes, quality of life, daily average number of fecal incontinence, and effective prescriptions of acupuncture for patients with fecal incontinence., Conclusion: Our findings will provide evidence for the effectiveness and potential treatment prescriptions of acupuncture for patients with fecal incontinence., Prospero Registration Number: PROSPERO CRD42019119680.
