Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes are variably distributed among populations from distinct geographic areas and ethnic origins. We describe, for the first time, KIR gene diversity in 152 unrelated and healthy Drung individuals, as measured by sequence-specific polymerase chain reaction. All 16 known KIR genes were detected. Of these, the framework genes KIR2DL4, 3DL2, 3DL3, and 3DP1 were present in all individuals as expected, along with the non-framework genes KIR2DL1, 2DL3, and 2DP1. In contrast, KIR2DL2, 2DS2, and 2DS5 were unusually rare, suggesting that KIR gene distribution was relatively concentrated. Ten different KIR genotypes were found, of which the most common consisted of nine genes ( KIR2DL1, 2DL3, 2DL4, 2DS4, 3DL1, 3DL2, 3DL3, 2DP1, and 3DP1) and accounted for 66.4% of participants. There were eight different haplotypes present, of which the A haplotype was the most common (81.9%). Principal components and dendrogram analysis confirmed that the Drung Chinese are most closely related to the Japanese, the Zhejiang Han, and the Yunnan Han. In conclusion, distinctive frequencies of KIR genes, haplotypes, and genotypes are observed in Chinese Drung. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To improve coal recovery rate of open pit coal mines, according to the conditions of coal seams at flat dipping open pit coal mines in China, a new mining system for recovering remaining coal around end-slopes was proposed. This system can extract the end-slopes coal remnants which are normally abandoned in traditional mining systems by using existing open pit mining and transportation systems. In this system, lower initial investment, mining and transportation costs are available, so the economic benefits are good. Moreover, the main mining parameters were discussed, and all of these results can be referred by the other open pit mines with similar geological conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The genes of Wnt/β-catenin pathway may have potential roles in fat accumulation of Non-traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), but the effects of their variants in the pathway on ONFH development have been remained unclear. To explore the potential roles of the variants in the development of ONFH, we completed the investigation of the paired interactions as well as their related biological functions of 17 variants of GSK3β, LRP5, and FRP4 genes etc. in the pathway. The genotyping of the 17 variants were finished by MASS ARRAY PLATFORM in a 560 ONFH case-control system. The association of variants interactions with ONFH risk and clinical traits was evaluated by logistic regression analysis etc. and bioinformatics technology. The results showed that the genotype, allele frequency, and genetic models of Gsk3β rs334558 (G/A), SFRP4 rs1052981 (A/G), and LRP5 rs312778 (T/C) were significantly associated with the increased and decreased ONFH risk and clinical traits, respectively (P < 0.001-0.0002). Particularly, the paired interactions of six variants as well as eight variants also showed statistically increased and decreased ONFH risk, bilateral hip lesions risk and stage IV risk of ONFH, respectively (P < 0.044-0.004). Our results not only at the first time simultaneously showed exact serum lipid disorder and abnormal platelet function of ONFH in the same study system with the 17 variants polymorphisms of Wnt/β-catenin pathway but also shed light on the variants closely intervening the lipid disorder and abnormal coagulation of ONFH., (© 2024. Little is known about the relationship between programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression and histologic and genetic features in real-world Chinese non-small cell lung cancer patients. From November 2017 to June 2019, tumor tissues were collected from 2674 non-small cell lung cancer patients. PD-L1 expression was detected with immunohistochemistry using the 22C3 and SP263 antibodies, and patients were stratified into subgroups based on a tumor proportion score of 1%, 1% to 49%, and ≥ 50%. Genetic alterations were profiled using targeted next-generation sequencing. In the total population, 50.5% had negative PD-L1 expression (tumor proportion score < 1%), 32.0% had low-positive expression (1%-49%), and 17.5% had high-positive expression (≥50%). The PD-L1 positive rate was 39.0% in squamous cell carcinomas and 53.6% in adenocarcinomas. PD-L1 expression was higher in squamous cell carcinomas (P < .001) and lower in adenocarcinomas (P < .001). Of the overall patient population, 11.2% had Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene (KRAS) mutations, 44.9% had epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, 2.1% had BRAF V600E mutations, 0.3% had MET exon 14 skipping mutations, 5.4% had anaplastic lymphoma kinase translocations, and 0.9% had ROS proto-oncogene 1 translocations. Patients carrying ROS proto-oncogene 1 translocations (P = .006), KRAS (P < .001), and MET (P = .023) mutations had significantly elevated expression of PD-L1, while those harboring EGFR (P < .001) mutations had lower PD-L1 expression. In our study, PD-L1 expression was significantly higher in squamous cell carcinomas and lower in adenocarcinomas, and was positively associated with MET and KRAS mutations, as well as the wild-type EGFR gene state. Extensive coral bleaching events can result in catastrophic degradation of coral reefs and reorganization of coral communities. In the present study, we analyzed the spatial differences in coral bleaching and possible reasons of large-scale coral bleaching, based on the results of a survey carried out in the northern South China Sea in 2020. In addition, we have continuously monitored the sea surface temperature (SST) of the northernmost Weizhou Island for more than six years. The living coral cover at Weizhou Island (W), Xuwen Nature Reserve (X), and Haihua Island (H) was relatively high at 24.6% ± 4.8%, 12.1% ± 3.8%, and 8.1% ± 2.6%, respectively, whereas their bleaching rates were 9.7% ± 2.6%, 9.7% ± 3.3%, and 6.9% ± 2.1%, respectively. Among them, the living coral cover of W was significantly different from those of X and H, whereas the bleaching rate was not significantly different among the three areas. In all three areas, the massive and encrusting corals predominate and exhibit relatively high bleaching rates, with Porites lutea and Bernardpora stutchburyi being the dominant species. In addition, the temperature monitoring results of Weizhou Island for six consecutive years showed that the critical SST of coral bleaching was 31.5 ℃. The monitoring results also showed that the average SST of Weizhou Island was 32.1 ℃, exceeding 32 ℃ in July 2020 for up to 533 h. The longest continuous time when the SST exceeded 32 ℃ was 97 h. These findings indicated that the coral bleaching event that occurred in the Beibu Gulf during 2020 was a large-scale and high-temperature transient event that presented a relatively homogeneous threat to the coral communities. We inferred that this sudden heat stress event was caused by the enclosed tidal current in the Beibu Gulf, which prevented the southern upwelling from reaching the north, as well as by the inability of the SST to decrease without rainfall caused by typhoon cyclones. Our findings suggested that abnormal heat waves can result in coral bleaching at high latitudes and even coral reef degradation. Objectives: High altitude exposure decreases the incidence of obesity and metabolic syndrome, but increases the expression of the thermogenic adipokines (leptin, fat cell fatty acid-binding protein (A-FABP) and visfatin). This study investigated the correlation of these adipokines with obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in populations residing in a plateau-specific environment., Design: Case-control study., Setting: We cross-sectionally analysed data from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort., Participants: A total of 475 obese (OB, body mass index (BMI)≥28.0 kg/m 2 ) plateau Han people and 475 age, sex and region-matched non-obese (NO, 18.5≤BMI<24.0 kg/m 2 ) subjects were recruited. MetS was defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III guidelines., Primary and Secondary Outcome Measures: Data with normal distributions were expressed as the mean (Stanard Deviation, SD), and data with skewed distributions were expressed as the median (Interquartile Range, IQR). The participants were grouped and the rank-sum test, χ 2 test or t-tests was used for comparing groups. Spearman correlation coefficients were estimated to assess the relationships among leptin, A-FABP, visfatin and the components of MetS in each group., Results: A-FABP was an independent predictor of OB (OR, 1.207; 95% CI, 1.170 to 1.245; p<0.05), ABSI (OR, 1.035; 95%CI, 1.019 to 1.052; p<0.05) and MetS (OR, 1.035; 95% CI, 1.013 to 1.057; p<0.05). Leptin was an independent predictor of MetS in the NO group. To investigate the temporal behaviors of heavy metals in sewage sludge in typical cities of industrial, industrial-agricultural, agricultural, or energy focused. Samples were collected every 10 days for a period of 1 year in four types of cities of Lanzhou, Tianshui, Qingyang, and Zhangye. The average annual values for all four cities were Cd (1.59-3.16 mg/kg), Pb (41.9-55.1 mg/kg), Cr (63.8-92.0 mg/kg), Cu (75.7-92.6 mg/kg), Zn (498-612 mg/kg), and Ni (3.66-4.25 mg/kg). The highest values were observed in June for Cd, Cr, and Zn, at Lanzhou and Tianshui. At Qingyang and Zhangye, the Cd, Cr, and Zn contents were stable throughout the year. There was a similar monthly change among the four cities regarding the levels of Ni content, and it was far below the background value. The monthly fluctuations in Cd, Pb, Cr, and Zn are mainly due to street dust effect. For cities with a developed industry, the impact of street dust during the first rains of the year on sewage sludge's heavy metal content must be highlighted as being of particular importance., (© 2023. Human activities have changed the global concentration of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and significantly altered the marine ecosystem. Little is known about the concentrations of these PTEs around Hainan Island in China, or their distribution and human health risks. Understanding the variability of PTEs in marine sediments and how they accumulate is important not only for biodiversity and ecological conservation, but also for management of aquatic natural resources and human health risk assessments. This study showed that the concentrations of six PTEs (Cd, Cu, Zn, As, Pb, and Hg), sampled in nine different cities, were linked to human activities. In order to understand the ecological risks associated with PTE pollution, we calculated the contamination factor (CF), enrichment factor (EF), pollution load index (PLI), and geo-accumulation index (Igeo) of each element in each city. These indicators suggest that the pollution of Cd and Zn in the sediments of these cities is higher than that of the other PTEs. We also carried out a human health risk assessment which demonstrated the carcinogenic effects of Zn on children and adults in ChengMai, while Pb showed non-carcinogenic effects at all the studied sites, suggesting that Zn pollution in the sediments of ChengMai may pose human health risks. A UHPLC-MS/MS method was developed to simultaneously determine eight biogenic amines (BAs) in Pixian Douban. Under optimal conditions, the linear ranges of determination were 5-1000 μg/L (that of spermine was 8-1000 μg/L). Correlation coefficients ranged from 0.9955 to 0.9987. The limits of detection were 0.11-5.5 μg/L. The matrix effect and analytical performance of the present method were evaluated, and the eight BAs were analyzed by this method in 19 samples, indicating the potential pollution of BAs in chili oil Pixian Douban., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Aim: To investigate the frequency, clinical phenotype, inflammatory cytokine levels and genetics of glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibody (GADA)-positive phenotypic youth-onset type 2 diabetes., Materials and Methods: This nationwide, multicentre, cross-sectional study included 5324 newly diagnosed subjects with phenotypic type 2 diabetes aged 15 years or older enrolled in the LADA China study. GADA was screened in 248 subjects with youth-onset type 2 diabetes aged 15-29 years. Subjects who presented as GADA-positive were defined as having latent autoimmune diabetes in youth (LADY). We added subjects with LADY, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and controls from the Diabetes Center of Central South University, and measured serum concentrations of interleukin-6, lipocalin 2, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, adiponectin and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotyping in subjects with LADY, age- and sex-matched GADA-negative type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes and controls., Results: Twenty-nine of the 248 subjects (11.7%) were GADA positive. Compared with subjects with type 2 diabetes, subjects with LADY were less probable to have metabolic syndrome (27.6% vs. 59.4%; p = .001). The fasting C-peptide levels tended to be lower in subjects with LADY than in subjects with type 2 diabetes, but the difference was not statistically significant (LADY vs. type 2 diabetes: 0.21 [0.17-0.64] vs. 0.47 [0.29-0.77] nmol/L; p = .11). The cytokine levels of subjects with LADY were indistinguishable from subjects with type 1 diabetes, but subjects with LADY presented increased adiponectin levels compared with subjects with type 2 diabetes after adjusting for age, sex and body mass index (7.19 [4.05-11.66] vs. 3.42 [2.35-5.74] μg/mL; p < .05). The frequency of total susceptible HLA genotypes (DR3/3, -3/9 and -9/9) in subjects with LADY and type 1 diabetes were similarly higher than controls (LADY and type 1 diabetes vs. controls: 21.4% and 30.8% vs. 2.6%, respectively; p < .001)., Conclusions: A high GADA positivity was observed in youth-onset type 2 diabetes subjects in China. Gray mold, caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea Pers ex Fr., is one of the most destructive spoilage diseases, severely affecting tomato production in Henan Province, China. Spraying fungicides from the flowering to the harvest stage is a necessary measure to reduce losses associated with B. cinerea infection. However, B. cinerea has developed resistance to fungicides in many countries. Boscalid is a succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicide and was registered for the control of gray mold. In this study, a total of 269 B. cinerea isolates were collected from tomato in commercial greenhouses in different locations of Henan Province in 2014 and 2015. The sensitivity and resistance of B. cinerea field isolates were determined based on mycelial growth. The effective concentration 50 ranged from 0.11 to 15.92 µg/ml and 0.16 to 8.54 µg/ml, in 2014 and 2015, respectively. The frequency of low resistance to boscalid was 12.6 and 7.6%, and moderate resistance was 2.7 and 1.3% in 2014 and 2015, respectively. No highly resistant isolates were found in Henan Province, China. Mycelial growth, mycelial dry weight, spore production, and pathogenicity were not significantly different between resistant and sensitive phenotypes of the B. cinerea isolates. The results of cross-resistance testing showed no correlation between boscalid and carbendazim, procymidone, pyrimethanil, fluazinam, or fluopyram. In this study, the succinate dehydrogenase genes B ( sdhB ), C ( sdhC ), and D ( sdhD ) were analyzed and compared in sensitive and low-resistance and moderately resistant B. cinerea isolates to boscalid. Results showed that point mutations occurred simultaneously at sdhC amino acid positions 85 (G85A), 93 (I93V), 158 (M158V), and 168 (V168I) in 4 out of 10 sensitive isolates and 23 of 26 low-resistance and 5 of 5 moderately resistant B. cinerea isolates to boscalid. No point mutations were found in the sdhB and sdhD genes of all isolates. Furthermore, no point mutations were found in sdhB , sdhC , and sdhD genes in 3 of 26 low-resistance B. cinerea isolates to boscalid. Therefore, we speculate that the simultaneous point mutations in the sdhC gene may not be related to the resistance of B. cinerea to boscalid. These results suggested that there might be a substitution mechanism for the resistance of B. cinerea to the SDHI fungicide boscalid.

TBX22 is a gene which contribute to cleft lip/palate, and many mutation sites of TBX22 have been reported. However, the exact role of TBX22 mutation in Chinese nonsyndromic cleft lip/palate (NSCL/P) family was not clearly explored. In this study, we tried to investigate the profiles and effects of TBX22 mutation in Chinese NSCL/P family. Members of two Chinese NSCL/P families and 200 normal controls were enrolled in this study. Further, DNA sequence and bioinformatic analysis for TBX22 were performed. The results showed that a novel and essential splicing site mutation, IVS6-1G>C , was detected in a family with cleft palate. The bioinformatic analysis results showed that this mutation would lead to abnormal transcription or translation, followed by a loss of function of TBX22 . In addition, a hemizygous missense mutation, c.874G>A (p.D292N), was first reported in another Chinese family, which may exhibit aggravated effects on the phenotypes of CL/P. Taking these findings together, this study provides a profile of TBX22 mutation in Chinese NSCL/P families, and further confirmed the important role of TBX22 in familial cases with X-linked cleft palate.

Epidemiological studies demonstrate a linkage between morbidity and mortality and particulate matter (PM), particularly fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that can readily penetrate into the lungs and are therefore more likely to increase the incidence of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The present study investigated the compositions of cooking oil fume (COF)-derived PM2.5, which is the major source of indoor pollution in China. Furthermore, oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest induced by COF-derived PM2.5 in primary fetal alveolar type II epithelial cells (AEC II cells) were also detected. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), a radical scavenger, was used to identify the role of oxidative stress in the abovementioned processes. Our results suggested that compositions of COF-derived PM2.5 are obviously different to PM2.5 derived from other sources, and COF-derived PM2.5 led to cell death, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and G0/G1 cell arrest in primary fetal AEC II cells. Furthermore, the results also showed that COF-derived PM2.5 induced apoptosis through the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress pathway, which is indicated by the increased expression of ER stress-related apoptotic markers, namely GRP78 and caspase-12. Besides, the induction of oxidative stress, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest was reversed by pretreatment with NAC. These findings strongly suggested that COF-derived PM2.5-induced toxicity in primary fetal AEC II cells is mediated by increased oxidative stress, accompanied by ER stress which results in apoptosis.

Effects of chitosan coating with cinnamon oil on the physiological attributes and preservation quality of China jujube fruits during storage at 4°C for 60 days were investigated. Results indicated that weight loss and decay of jujube fruits were significantly reduced by chitosan-oil coating during the period of 60-day storage, which also exhibited a quite beneficial effect on maintaining the sensory quality for jujube fruits. Meanwhile, the contents of vitamin C and titratable acid decreased to 3.08 mg·g(-1) and 0.342% for the fruits treated by chitosan-oil coating (1.0% + 0.10%), respectively. Polyphenol oxidase, superoxide dismutase, and peroxidase activities were 13.40 U·g(-1), 14.53 U·g(-1), and 63.6 U·g(-1) at the end of storage, respectively. The contents of total soluble phenolics and MDA were 34.51 mg·g(-1) and 19.43 μmol·g(-1) for the combined coating treated samples and control fruits, respectively. These results suggested that the chitosan-oil coating might be recognized as one efficiency technology on the preservation quality of jujube fruits during the storage time.

Objective: To identify ticks and determine the Borrelia (B.) burgdorferi genotype from four counties of northern Xinjiang., Methods: Sheep ticks were collected from 6 surveillance sites in four counties including Shihezi, Shawan,Yining and Chabuchaer. All ticks were initially screened out based on morphological methods and 16S rRNA sequence analysis. B. burgdorferi was detected and cultivated with BSK-H medium. Combined with nested PCR, silver nitrate staining was employed to detect B. burgdorferi. Genotype of isolated B. burgdorferi was determined by Sequencing and phylogenic analysis based on 11 conference sequences., Results: Hyalomma asiaticum asiaticum, Haemaphysalis punctata, Dermacentor marginatus and Rhipicephalus turanicus were identified from more than 900 ticks. Out of 24 tubes from 102 representative tick specimens, 16 tube were positive for B. burgdorfer. Sequencing of 5S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer showed 98.6%-99.5% identities to B. burgdorferi Sensu Stricto(B31). Results from the analysis of OspC genotype showed consistent with that of 5S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer., Conclusions: 16 strains of B. burgdorferi Sensu Stricto were isolated in four counties, from northern Xinjiang. Additionally, B. burgdorferi Sensu Stricto was isolated from Rhipicephalus turanicus first time in China.

In continuation of our program aimed at the discovery and development of natural-product-based pesticidal agents, 54 novel N-arylsulfonyl-3-acylindole arylcarbonyl hydrazone derivatives were prepared, and their structures were well characterized by ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, HRMS, ESI-MS, and mp. Their nematicidal activity was evaluated against that of the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in vivo. Among all of the derivatives, especially V-12 and V-39 displayed the best promising nematicidal activity with LC₅₀ values of 1.0969 and 1.2632 mg/L, respectively. This suggested that introduction of R¹ and R² together as the electron-withdrawing substituents, R³ as the methyl group, and R⁴ as the phenyl with the electron-donating substituents could be taken into account for further preparation of these kinds of compounds as nematicidal agents. Six selected descriptors are a WHIM descriptor (E1m), two GETAWAY descriptors (R1m+ and R3m+), a Burden eigenvalues descriptor (BEHm8), and two edge-adjacency index descriptors (EEig05x and EEig13d). Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) studies demonstrated that the structural factors, such as molecular mass (a negative correlation with the bioactivity) and molecular polarity (a positive correlation with bioactivity), are likely to govern the nematicidal activities of these compounds. For this model, the correlation coefficient (R²(training set)), the leave-one-out cross-validation correlation coefficient (Q²(LOO)), and the 7-fold cross-validation correlation coefficient (Q²(7-fold)) were 0.791, 0.701, and 0.715, respectively. The external cross-validation correlation coefficient (Q²ext) and the root-mean-square error for the test set (RMSE(test set)) were 0.774 and 3.412, respectively. This study will pave the way for future design, structural modification, and development of indole derivatives as nematicidal agents.

The community succession of microbes inhabited in the fermenting lees of Luzhou-flavor liquor was investigated based on small-subunit rRNA culture independent method. All sequences recovered from fermenting lees respectively fell into the genera of Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Clostridium, Pelobacter, Actobacter, Serratia, Burkholderia, Rhodoccous, Corynebacterium, Arthrobacter, Microbacterium, Curtobacterium, Leptotrichia, Methanocuuleus, Saccharomyces, Zygosaccharomyces, Saccharomycopsis, Pichia, Talaromyces, Aspergillus, Eurotium, Fomitopsis and Trichosporon. The fungal Pichia, Saccharomycopsis and Talaromyces were most abundant in the lees fermented for 1 day, the fungal Eurotium and the bacteria Burkholderia, Streptococcus and Lactobacillus were dominant in the lees fermented for 7 days, only the bacteria Lactobacillus, Burkholderia were prevalent in the lees fermented for 60 days. Most genera almost existed in the fermenting lees, while their distributions were significantly different in 1, 7 and 60 days fermented lees. The prokaryotic community similarity coefficient was from 0.5000 to 0.5455 and followed to 0.1523, and that of eukaryotic community was from 0.5466 to 0.5259 and to 0.3750 when compared at species level. These results suggested that many microbes in lees have community successions associated with fermenting and that such successions maybe contribute the fermentation process of Luzhou-flavor liquor and is main reasons that the characteristic flavor factors are produced.

Background: Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the four major oil crops in China. A sesame core collection (CC) was established in China in 2000, but no complete study on its genetic diversity has been carried out at either the phenotypic or molecular level. To provide technical guidance, a theoretical basis for further collection, effective protection, reasonable application, and a complete analysis of sesame genetic resources, a genetic diversity assessment of the sesame CC in China was conducted using phenotypic and molecular data and by extracting a sesame mini-core collection (MC)., Results: Results from a genetic diversity assessment of sesame CC in China were significantly inconsistent at the phenotypic and molecular levels. A Mantel test revealed the insignificant correlation between phenotype and molecular marker information (r = 0.0043, t = 0.1320, P = 0.5525). The Shannon-Weaver diversity index (I) and Nei genetic diversity index (h) were higher (I = 0.9537, h = 0.5490) when calculated using phenotypic data from the CC than when using molecular data (I = 0.3467, h = 0.2218). A mini-core collection (MC) containing 184 accessions was extracted based on both phenotypic and molecular data, with a low mean difference percentage (MD, 1.64%), low variance difference percentage (VD, 22.58%), large variable rate of coefficient of variance (VR, 114.86%), and large coincidence rate of range (CR, 95.76%). For molecular data, the diversity indices and the polymorphism information content (PIC) for the MC were significantly higher than for the CC. Compared to an alternative random sampling strategy, the advantages of capturing genetic diversity and validation by extracting a MC using an advanced maximization strategy were proven., Conclusions: This study provides a comprehensive characterization of the phenotypic and molecular genetic diversities of the sesame CC in China. A MC was extracted using both phenotypic and molecular data. Low MD% and VD%, and large VR% and CR% suggested that the MC provides a good representation of the genetic diversity of the original CC. The MC was more genetically diverse with higher diversity indices and a higher PIC value than the CC. A MC may aid in reasonably and efficiently selecting materials for sesame breeding and for genotypic biological studies, and may also be used as a population for association mapping in sesame.

We examined a possible relationship -420C>G SNP of the resistin gene with plasma resistin and C-reactive protein concentrations in intracerebral hemorrhage. Three hundred and forty-four Chinese Han patients with intracerebral hemorrhage and 344 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included in our study. Plasma resistin and C-reactive concentrations were measured and SNP -420C>G was genotyped. The genotype frequencies in controls and patients were not significantly different (P = 0.672). Plasma resistin and C-reactive protein levels were significantly different between the SNP -420C>G genotypes, even after adjustment for age, gender and body mass index. The common homozygote (C-C) had the lowest resistin and C-reactive protein plasma concentrations; the plasma resistin and C-reactive protein concentrations in the heterozygote (C-G) and the rare allele homozygote (G-G) did not differ significantly. Plasma resistin levels were significantly associated with plasma C-reactive protein level. We conclude that SNP -420C>G of the resistin gene could be involved in the inflammatory component of intracerebral hemorrhage through enhanced production of resistin.
