Background: While trait emotional intelligence (EI) has been found to be related to young adolescents' affect, the underlying mechanisms need to be further explored. Previous findings are also limited by common method problems arising from the use of cross-sectional design involving single-wave data capture. Objective: The study aims to clarify the relation between trait EI and young adolescents' positive and negative affect by further exploring the mediating roles of personal resilience, social support, and prosocial behavior. Method: We conducted a three-wave survey among 714 Chinese junior high school students (mean age of 11.11 years) with temporal separations of the research measures to reduce common method variance. Trait EI was measured at the beginning of Grade 6; personal resilience, social support, and prosocial behavior were measured at the end of Grade 6; positive and negative affect were measured at the end of Grade 7. Results: Trait EI at the beginning of Grade 6 was positively related to positive affect and negatively related to negative affect by the end of Grade 7. The influence of trait EI on positive affect was fully mediated by personal resilience, social support, and prosocial behavior at the end of Grade 6. Its influence on negative affect was also fully mediated by social support. Conclusions: The findings clarify the mechanisms underlying the trait EI effect and highlight the importance of future youth programs targeting mediation mechanisms. In particular, we suggest the worth of utilizing trait EI to better facilitate personal and social resources when facing difficulties, and to help others in appropriate and effective ways.

Introduction: This study assessed the safety, tolerability, and PK/PD of HSK7653 tablets in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: This was a Phase IIa, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, and dose-increasing study with 48 Chinese diabetes patients. Subjects were randomly assigned to placebo and 10/25/50 mg dose groups, and they received oral administration once every two weeks for a total of six times. Safety and tolerability were assessed throughout this study, and PK/PD parameters were analyzed using non-compartment model with WinNonlin. Results: The three doses of HSK7653 were well tolerated, and the incidence of TEAE and ADR was not significantly increased compared with the placebo group. Cmax increased linearly with the increasing dose, and the mean t1/2 was 64.0–87.0 h. The first dose and last dose PK parameters were similar. After oral administration of 10–50 mg HSK7653 every two weeks, the average Rac_Cmax and Rac_AUC were 0.9–1.0 and 1.0–1.1 respectively; therefore, HSK7653 was not accumulated in vivo. All three doses significantly inhibited DPP-4 activity and increased plasma GLP-1 level and serum insulin levels. When the plasma concentration of HSK7653 was ≥ 20.0 ng/mL, the DPP-4 inhibition rate in all subjects was maintained at > 80.0%. In 10 and 25 mg dose groups, the HbA1c levels maintained a downward trend compared with the placebo group. Discussion: HSK7653 showed desirable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties with good safety and tolerability in Chinese T2DM patients. DPP-4 inhibition rate and plasma GLP-1 levels were higher in each dose group than in placebo group. Background. To explore the use of teicoplanin among Chinese patients with Gram-positive infections in a tertiary hospital. Methods. The medical records of patients, who were monitored for teicoplanin plasma concentration (TPC) from December 2017 to February 2019, were collected. By combining the therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and nonlinear mixed-effects model, a population pharmacokinetic (PPK) model of teicoplanin was established. Results. The proportions of TPCs lower and higher than 10 mg/L were nearly the same (102 vs. 108 cases). A two-compartment model of teicoplanin PPK in Chinese patients was established. Compared with 400 mg, the 600 mg regimen was more able to reach the target concentration (10 mg/L), especially for high-weight patients. Conclusions. The standard regimen of teicoplanin, 400 mg, failed to reach the target value in the present population. Four new species of Russula subsection Sardoninae from northern and southwestern China under coniferous and deciduous trees are proposed as R. begonia, R. photinia, R. rhodochroa, and R. rufa. Illustrations and descriptions of R. gracillima, R. leucomarginata, R. roseola, and the above four new species are provided based on evidence of morphological characters and phylogenetic analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), as well as the multi-locus of mtSSU, nLSU, rpb1, rpb2 and tef1-α. Background: Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric cancer (EBVaGC) exhibits unique histological characteristics within the immune-cell-rich microenvironment, but the role of tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) in EBVaGC is not yet fully understood. Methods: We retrospectively identified EBVaGC from 8517 consecutive GC cases from the two top cancer centers in China. Furthermore, we evaluated the prognostic value of TLS in 148 EBVaGC patients from our institute and then validated it in an external cohort (76 patients). TLS was quantified and its relationships with overall survival (OS) and therapeutic response were further analyzed. Multiplex immunofluorescence staining and targeted sequencing were used to characterize the composition of TLS and the genomic landscape, respectively. Results: In our study, EBVaGC was observed in 4.3% (190/4436) and 2.6% (109/4081) of GCs in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. TLS was identified in the intratumor (94.6%) and peritumor (77.0%) tissues with lymphoid aggregates, primary and secondary (i.e., mature TLSs) follicles in EBVaGC. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that mature TLS in intratumoral tissues was associated with a favorable OS in the training and validation cohorts (p < 0.0001; p = 0.0108). Multivariate analyses demonstrated that intratumoral TLS maturation, pTNM, and PD-L1 expression were independent prognostic factors for OS (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the mature TLS was significantly associated with a good response to treatment in EBVaGC patients. Interestingly, the mutation frequency of SMARCA4 was significantly lower in the mature TLS groups. Background: The purpose of this study was to introduce a modified lateral approach for combined radical resection of buccal squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) and evaluate its surgical, oncological, functional, and aesthetic outcomes in comparison with the conventional lower-lip splitting approach. Methods: This single-center study retrospectively reviewed 80 patients with BSCC, of which 37 underwent the lateral approach and 43 underwent the conventional approach. Surgical, functional, oncological, and aesthetic evaluations, as well as follow-ups, were recorded and compared. Results: Compared to the conventional approach group, the lateral approach group had a longer surgical time (P = 0.000), but there was no significant difference in other surgical and oncological parameters. Moreover, the scar in the head and neck had a significantly discreet appearance in the lateral approach group, whose satisfaction was better than those in the conventional approach group (P = 0.000). Other oral function parameters, postoperative mouth-opening, and 3-year survival rate were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: The lateral approach could provide superior aesthetic results while maintaining equal surgical, functional, and oncological outcomes compared to the conventional approach for radical resection of BSCC. A three-compartment culture system was used to study the mechanism by which the AM fungus Funneliformis mosseae influences host plant growth and soil organic carbon (SOC) content in a northwest China coal mining area. A 13CO2 pulse tracing technique was used to trace the allocation of maize photosynthetic C in shoots, roots, AM fungus, and soil. Carbon accumulation and allocation in mycorrhizal (inoculated with Funneliformis mosseae) and non-mycorrhizal treatments were detected. AM fungal inoculation significantly increased the 13C concentration and content in both above- and below-ground plant parts and also significantly enhanced anti-aging ability by increasing soluble sugars and catalase activity (CAT) in maize leaves while reducing foliar malondialdehyde content (MDA) and leaf temperature and promoted plant growth. AM fungi also increased P uptake to promote maize growth. Soil organic carbon (SOC), glomalin, microbial biomass carbon (MBC), and nitrogen (MBN) contents increased significantly after inoculation. A mutually beneficial system was established involving maize, the AM fungus and the microbiome, and the AM fungus became an important regulator of C flux between the above- and below-ground parts of the system. Inoculation with the AM fungus promoted plant growth, C fixation and allocation belowground to enhance soil quality. A positive above-belowground feedback appeared to be established. Background: Data on severe and extensive burns in China are limited, as is data on the prevalence of a range of related gastrointestinal (GI) disorders [such as stress ulcers, delayed defecation, opioid-related bowel immotility, and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS)]. We present a multicentre analysis of coincident GI dysfunction and its effect on burn-related mortality. Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with severe [≥ 20% total burn surface area (TBSA)] and extensive (> 50% TBSA or > 25% full-thickness TBSA) burns admitted to three university teaching institutions in China between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2020. Both 30- and 90-day mortality were assessed by collating demographic data, burn causes, admission TBSA, % full-thickness TBSA, Baux score, Abbreviated Burn Severity Index (ABSI) score, and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, shock at admission and the presence of an inhalation injury. GI dysfunction included abdominal distension, nausea/vomiting, diarrhoea/constipation, GI ulcer/haemorrhage, paralytic ileus, feeding intolerance and ACS. Surgeries, length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, pain control [in morphine milligram equivalents (MME)] and overall length of hospital stay (LOHS) were recorded. Results: We analyzed 328 patients [75.6% male, mean age: (41.6 ± 13.6) years] with a median TBSA of 62.0% (41.0–80.0%); 256 (78.0%) patients presented with extensive burns. The 90-day mortality was 23.2% (76/328), with 64 (84.2%) of these deaths occurring within 30 d and 25 (32.9%) occurring within 7 d. GI dysfunction was experienced by 45.4% of patients and had a significant effect on 90-day mortality [odds ratio (OR) = 14.070, 95% confidence interval (CI) 5.886–38.290, P < 0.001]. Multivariate analysis showed that GI dysfunction was associated with admission SOFA score and % full-thickness TBSA. Overall, 88.2% (67/76) of deceased patients had GI dysfunction [hazard ratio (HR) for death of GI dysfunction = 5.951], with a survival advantage for functional disorders (diarrhoea, constipation, or nausea/vomiting) over GI ulcer/haemorrhage (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Patients with severe burns have an unfavourable prognosis, as nearly one-fifth died within 90 d. Half of our patients had comorbidities related to GI dysfunction, among which GI ulcers and haemorrhages were independently correlated with 90-day mortality. Polyploidization and hybridization are very common in natural plant species, and mixed‐ploidy species provide a unique opportunity to study the effects of evolutionary history, local abundance, and ploidy level on the direction and extent of introgression between intraspecific lineages. First, we delimited two morphologically cryptic lineages of Phragmites australis Trin. ex Steud. in temperate China using 11 nuclear microsatellites and two chloroplast DNA fragments with 225 samples from China as well as 11 samples from Oceania and Europe. Our evidence supported that haplotype O and haplotype P were two relatively independent lineages with low and high ploidy levels, respectively; haplotype M might be ancient and could have undergone a complex evolutionary history. Then we examined the lineage divergence and compared the introgression patterns between two major lineages along geographical and abundance gradients with a large number of samples (n = 1067) collected from China. The sympatric coexistence of two lineages in north and northeast China implies an ongoing or potential introgression between them. Cline analysis showed that the level of genetic admixture were significantly correlated with longitude rather than latitude. Our results also suggested that ploidy level could deeply influence the introgression asymmetry, and the effect of the current local abundance on introgression might be covered by the past coexistence time driven by phylogeographic history. Shandong and Fujian are two important provinces regarding the development of the seaweed industry, which shared three-fourths of the national seaweed yield in the year 2020. The present study has analyzed the overall situation of the seaweed industry in Shandong and Fujian provinces by comparing annual output, farming area, and species structure. The current status of Laminaria japonica cultivation in two provinces is also compared to the production process, industrial organization, progress, and innovation. On this foundation, the following development strategies are proposed for the seaweed industry in Shandong Province: (1) change the mindset based on the present industrial basis, (2) retain and transform innovative achievements, (3) enhance the services of associations and organizations and (4) construct brands based on current market share. In the 1980s, Shandong Province took the lead in establishing breakthrough industrialized seedling raising and breeding technologies for Apostichopus japonicus and successfully led the 'fifth wave of mariculture' in China. In 2008, the experiment of 'raising sea cucumber from north to south' proved successful, and sea cucumber culture gradually radiated and extended to Fujian, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Zhejiang Provinces in southern China. The total output of sea cucumber culture in Shandong Province accounts for more than 70% of the market in China, and the sea cucumber industry is now a pillar of the fishery economy in Shandong Province. This paper systematically introduces the development status of the sea cucumber breeding industry in Shandong Province in recent ten years, summarizes the current problems and challenges, and puts forwards development suggestions; this guidance has significance for the healthy and sustainable development of the sea cucumber breeding industry in both Shandong Province and the whole country. Objective: To reveal the contributing role of METTL3 gene SNPs in pediatric ALL risk. Patients and Methods: A total of 808 pediatric ALL cases and 1,340 cancer-free controls from five hospitals in South China were recruited. A case-control study by genotyping three SNPs in the METTL3 gene was conducted. Genomic DNA was abstracted from peripheral blood. Three SNPs (rs1263801 C>G, rs1139130 A>G, and rs1061027 A>C) in the METTL3 gene were chosen to be detected by taqman real-time polymerase chain reaction assay. Results: That rs1263801 C>G, rs1139130 A>G, and rs1061027 A>C polymorphisms were significantly associated with increased pediatric ALL risk was identified. In stratification analyses, it was discovered that rs1263801 CC, rs1061027 AA, and rs1139130 GG carriers were more likely to develop ALL in subgroups of common B-ALL, MLL gene fusion. Rs1263801 CC and rs10610257 AA carriers were more possible to increase the risk of ALL in subgroups of low hyperdiploid, and all of these three SNPs exhibited a trend toward the risk of ALL. All of these three polymorphisms were associated with the primitive/naïve lymphocytes and MRD in marrow after chemotherapy in ALL children. Rs1263801 CC and rs1139130 AA alleles provided a protective effect on MRD ≥0.01% among CCCG-treated children. As for rs1139130, AA alleles provided a protective effect on MRD in marrow ≥0.01% on 33 days and 12 weeks among CCCG-treated children, but provided a risk effect on MRD in the marrow ≥0.01% among SCCLG-treated children. As for rs1263801 CC and rs1139130 AA, these two alleles provided a protective effect on MRD in the marrow ≥0.01% among CCCG-treated children. The efficacy of susceptible variants derived from genome-wide association studies (GWAs) optimizing discriminatory accuracy of colorectal cancer (CRC) in Chinese remains unclear. In the present validation study, we assessed 75 recently identified variants from GWAs. A risk predictive model combining 19 variants using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) statistics offered certain clinical advantages. This model demonstrated an area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUC) of 0.61 during training analysis and yielded robust AUCs from 0.59 to 0.61 during validation analysis in three independent centers. The individuals carrying the highest quartile of risk score revealed over 2-fold risks of CRC (ranging from 2.12 to 2.90) compared with those who presented the lowest quartile of risk score. Following the screening and confirmation of suitable heterologous gene elements such as sldh , sdh , cytc 551, pqq AB, and irr E, genetic recombination was performed in KT2440. In comparison to the initial achievement of expressing only sldh and sdh in KT2440, a yield of merely 0.42 g/L was obtained. However, by implementing four metabolic engineering strategies, the recombinant strain KT20 exhibited a significant enhancement in its ability to produce 2-KGA with a remarkable yield of up to 6.5 g/L – representing an impressive 15.48-fold improvement. Background: Few reports from China provide confirmed evidence of the effectiveness of the larynx preservation strategy compared with surgery on the treatment of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers. This study assessed the clinical outcomes of patients with locally advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers treated with larynx preservation and determined the optimal larynx preservation procedure. Methods: Data of 1,494 patients treated with total laryngectomy or larynx preservation between 2006 and 2014 were retrieved from the database of Sun-Yat Sen University Cancer Center in Guangzhou, China, and 366 eligible patients were selected for final analysis. The clinical outcomes of 228 patients received total laryngectomy and 138 patients received larynx preservation treatments, which comprises induction followed by radiotherapy and concurrent radio-chemotherapy, were compared. Results: There was no statistical difference in the 3-, 5-, and 10-year PFS and OS in patients received larynx preservation compared with patients treated with laryngectomy. With respect to T stage, a better overall OS in T2-stage disease (P = 0.036) but poorer PFS (P = 0.005) in T3-stage disease was observed in the larynx preservation group compared with the surgery group in Univariate analysis. T3-stage disease had poorer PFS in multivariable analysis (P = 0.022). With larynx preservation intent, induction chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy showed no advantage in the control of disease progression and survival compared with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. The patient subpopulations who received efficacy assessment after induction chemotherapy exhibited significantly longer PFS and OS compared with those without efficacy assessment. Conclusions: This is the largest sample size study on larynx preservation treatment for laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers in China. Our results indicated that larynx preservation treatments did not jeopardize the survival of patients with advanced resectable laryngeal or hypopharyngeal cancers. Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)‐associated gastric carcinomas (EBVaGCs) may account for 8–9% of all gastric cancer (GC) patients. All previous reports on EBVaGC were retrospective. Prospective study is warranted to evaluate the exact role of EBV status in predicting the prognosis of GC. It is of special interest to figure out whether dynamic detection of plasma EBV‐DNA load could be a feasible biomarker for the monitor of EBVaGC. From October 2014 to September 2017, we consecutively collected GC patients (n = 2,760) from Sun Yat‐sen University Cancer Center for EBER examination. We detected EBV‐DNA load in plasma and tissue samples of EBVaGC patients at baseline. Subsequently, plasma EBV‐DNA load was dynamically monitored in EBVaGC patients. The overall prevalence of EBVaGC is 5.1% (140/2,760). The incidence rate of EBVaGC decreased with advanced AJCC 7th TNM stage (p < 0.001), with the corresponding percentages of 9.3, 9.9, 6.7 and 1.4% for Stage I, II, III and IV patients. EBVaGC patients were predominately young males with better histologic differentiation and earlier TNM stage than EBV‐negative GC (EBVnGC) patients. EBVaGC patients were confirmed to had a favorable 3‐year survival rate (EBVaGC vs. EBVnGC: 76.8% vs. 58.2%, p = 0.0001). Though only 52.1% (73/140) EBVaGC patients gained detectable EBV‐DNA and 43.6% (61/140) reached a positive cutoff of 100 copies/ml, we found the plasma EBV‐DNA load in EBVaGC decreased when patients got response, while it increased when disease progressed. Our results suggested that plasma EBV‐DNA is a good marker in predicting recurrence and chemotherapy response for EBVaGC patients. What's new? Background: Use of tigecycline in treating MDR Acinetobacter baumannii (MDRAB) remains controversial.Objectives: To comprehensively assess the safety and efficacy of tigecycline in pneumonia caused by Acinetobacter baumannii.Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane library databases were searched up to 12 March 2019. Studies were included if they compared tigecycline-based regimens with other antibiotic regimens for treating AB pulmonary infections and we pooled the clinical outcomes, microbiological response, adverse events or mortality.Results: One prospective study and nine retrospective studies were included in this meta-analysis. The results showed similar clinical cure rates (OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 0.60-1.81; P = 0.89) and mortality rates (OR = 1.11, 95% CI = 0.65-1.89; P = 0.71) comparing tigecycline groups with the control groups. However, a significantly lower microbiological eradication rate was found in the tigecycline groups (OR = 0.43, 95% CI = 0.27-0.66; P = 0.0001). Incidence of nephrotoxicity in tigecycline-based regimens was significantly lower than in colistin-based regimens (OR = 0.34, 95% CI = 0.16-0.74, I2 = 35%, P = 0.006). There were no randomized controlled trials (RCTs) included; incomplete safety data and regional bias caused by the majority of the studies originating in China are the main limitations of this meta-analysis.Conclusions: Tigecycline can be used for treating MDRAB pulmonary infections owing to efficacy similar to that of other antibiotics. Moreover, tigecycline did not show a higher risk of mortality. Considering the lower microbiological eradication rate for tigecycline, which is likely to induce antimicrobial resistance, well-designed RCTs for high-dose tigecycline in treating pneumonia caused by AB are still needed. Genetic variation and population structure may reflect important information for invasion success of exotic plant species and thus help improve management of invasive plants. Spartina alterniflora is an invasive plant that is a major threat to the economy and environment of the coastal regions in China. We analyzed the genetic structure and diversity of six populations of S. alterniflora differing in invasion histories in Guangxi, China. A total of 176 individuals from the six populations produced 348 AFLP fragments. The average heterozygosity was significantly lower than in the native population. And genetic bottlenecks were also detected in most populations. Standardized FST statistics (Φpt = 0.015) and AMOVA results indicated weak genetic differentiation. Genetic admixture and obviously isolation by distance indicated populations in Guangxi come from a pre-admixed population by a single introduction. Lysimachia christinae Hance is widely distributed in subtropical China at the elevational range from 500–2300 m. The species is an important medicinal herb for treating jaundice, urinary disorders, and the liver. Here, we sequenced and characterized the whole plastid genome of L. christinae. It is 154,810 bp in length, containing two copies of inverted repeat (IR) regions (26,034 bp, each), a large single-copy (LSC) region (84,809 bp), and a small single-copy (SSC) region (17,933 bp). It has 114 genes, of which 80 are protein-coding, 30 are tRNA, and 4 are rRNA genes. The ML tree indicates L. christinae is closely related to Lysimachia congestiflora Hemsl. Population-based cancer registration data were collected to estimate the cancer incidence and mortality in Wuwei, Hexi Corridor Region, China in 2018. We used the 2011-2013 data to predict the number of new cases and deaths in 2018 and the 2003-2013 data to analyze trends in cancer incidence and mortality. The goal is to enable cancer prevention and control directions. Our results indicated that stomach cancer is the most common cancer. For all cancers combined, the incidence and mortality rates showed significantly increasing trends (+2.63% per year; P < 0.05 and +1.9% per year; P < 0.05). This study revealed a significant cancer burden among the population of this area. Objective: To investigate the effect of Chinese medicine (CM) on survival of patients with stage II and III colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: A total of 295 patients who received chemotherapy were assigned to Group 1. The other 171 patients received the same chemotherapy treatment combined with the usage of CM Jianpi Jiedu Formula (健脾解毒方, JPJD) for more than 3 months (Group 2). Patients' survival time, relapse and metastasis, and cause of death were observed. Cox proportional hazard regression models were established for the analysis of the effect of independent factors on the survival prognosis of patients with CRC. Results: The survival rate of patients in Group 2 was higher than that of Group 1 ( P<0.05). Compared with Group 1, the mean survival time was prolonged by 5.594 months and the median survival time was prolonged by 6 months in Group 2 ( P=0.004). Cox regression analysis indicated that CM combined with chemotherapy provided signifificant protective effect, as observed with the improvements in the survival rates of CRC patients ( P<0.01). This prospective study examined the longitudinal effects of psychological resilience on depression in a Chinese sample of left-behind children. A total of 386 left-behind children completed both a baseline and a 1-year follow-up survey. The prevalence of depression at the baseline and 1-year follow-up was 12.7 and 8.5 per cent, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that older age and baseline depressive symptoms were positively associated with follow-up depression, while psychological resilience and quality of life were negatively related to follow-up depression. Previous phylogeographic studies of the warm-temperate zone in China focused on woody plants, but little attention was given to the climate-sensitive herbaceous plants. In this work, we implemented a phylogeographic survey on the perennial herb Achyranthes bidentata in China's warm-temperate zone. The sequence variation of cpDNA and nDNA was examined across 209 individuals from 21 populations. A total of 11 chlorotypes and 26 ribotypes were identified. The cpDNA data showed weak population genetic differentiation and could not divide the 21 populations into different genetic groups. By contrast, the nDNA data revealed stronger genetic differentiation than cpDNA and could divide these populations into two genetic groups. The cpDNA and nDNA data both gave unambiguous signs of recent sudden population expansion. Based on the cpDNA and nDNA data, the estimated time of population expansion occurred at interglacial Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 9 of the Penultimate Glaciation in China. The cpDNA and nDNA data suggested that the glaciation during this period deeply influenced the current distribution patterns and intraspecific divergence of A. bidentata. Our survey showed that A. bidentata tracked climatic oscillations by a large range of southward retreat into three main refugia during MIS 8, followed by the sudden northward expansion from these refugia during MIS 9. There have been numerous studies concerning the associations of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene insertion/deletion (I/D), angiotensin II receptor 1 (AT1R) gene A1166C, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene 4b/a polymorphisms with risk of pregnancy hypertensive disorders (PHDs). However, the results are inconsistent. A total of 83 eligible studies (10,354/18,446 cases/controls) were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled odds ratios with corresponding 95% confidence intervals were used to calculate these associations. The effects of ethnicity and types of PHDs were also considered. Results showed significant associations between the ACE gene polymorphism and PHDs in all of the populations except that in Africa. The associations also existed in AT1R, eNOS gene polymorphism and PHDs in part of the gene models in the overall population. These results indicated the ACE gene polymorphism was associated with an increased risk of PHDs, whereas the eNOS and AT1R gene polymorphism only have increased susceptibility to PHDs in part of the gene models. The genus Primula is extremely diverse in the east Himalaya-Hengduan Mountains (HHM) in China as a result of rapid radiation. In order to overcome the difficulty of morphological classification of this genus, we surveyed three plastid regions (rbcL, matK, and trnH-psbA) and two nuclear markers (ITS and ITS2) from 227 accessions representing 66 Primula species across 18 sections, to assess their discriminatory power as barcodes. We found that ITS alone or combined with plastid regions showed the best discrimination across different infrageneric ranks and at species level. We suggest rbcL + matK + ITS as the first choice at present to barcode Primula plants. Although the present barcoding combination performed poorly in many closely related species of Primula, it still provided many new insights into current Primula taxonomy, such as the underlying presence of cryptic species, and several potential improper taxonomic treatments. DNA barcoding is one useful technique in the integrative taxonomy of the genus Primula, but it still requires further efforts to improve its effectiveness in some taxonomically challenging groups. With the increasing number of outbreaks of food-borne diseases caused by okadaic acid (OA) and its analogue dinophysistoxin-1 (DTX-1), two key diarrhetic shellfish poison (DSP) toxins, OA and DTX-1, have become a serious threat to public health and have attracted significant public attention in China. The aim of our study was to monitor OA and DTX-1 contamination in commercially available seafood and to provide references for tracking these toxins and preventing disease outbreaks. From 2010 to 2012, 40 species were collected from six coastal cities of four inland seas in China. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a lateral flow immunochromatographic (LFIC) test strip were used to analyse the samples, and the results were further confirmed using a commercially available ELISA kit. The monitoring results indicated that 23 of 40 species were positive for contamination. In addition, 14 of the positive species were determined to be inedible because the content of OA and DTX-1 was above the regulatory limit. Simultaneously, we verified that the digestive glands of shellfish tended to accumulate toxin, in contrast to the flesh. The highest concentrations of OA and DTX-1 were recorded in Scapharca broughtonii, which was collected from Qing Dao, in relation to the other analysed species. Moreover, the Arca family as well as Mytilus galloprovincialis were severely contaminated by OA and its analogue. The above results indicate that some of the commercially available seafood from the coastal cities in China may be inedible due to serious marine toxin contamination. Aims: Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) plays an important role in gastric carcinoma. Using a case-control study, we analyzed the genotypic distribution of TLR4 rs10983755 (−2081G/A) and rs11536878 in a Chinese population and investigated the effect of their interactions with Helicobacter pylori infection on susceptibility to gastric cancer (GC) and atrophic gastritis (AG). Methods: In this study, 409 and 581 cases of GC and AG, respectively, were selected for analyses along with an equal number of matched controls. The TLR4 polymorphisms were genotyped using Sequenom MassARRAY. Serum levels of anti- H. pylori IgG were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: The TLR4-2081G/A polymorphism was negatively associated with GC (AG+AA vs. GG: odds ratio [OR]=0.70, 95% confidence interval [CI]=0.53-0.93, p=0.012). A decreased risk of GC was observed in H. pylori negative and TLR4-2081(AG+AA) genotype subjects [ H. pylori(−)/AG+AA vs. H. pylori(+)/GG: OR=0.16, 95% CI=0.09-0.27, p<0.001]. The rs11536878 polymorphism was not associated with GC or AG. Conclusions: The TLR4-2081G/A polymorphism seems to affect the risk of gastric carcinogenesis and may to some degree play a protective role against H. pylori infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim To investigate the circadian pattern of cortisol secretion and other stress indictors in association with audiovisual stimuli in adolescents having otorhinolaryngological surgery in hospital. Background Hospitalization for surgery is a major stressful life event for adolescents causing negative consequences, including anxiety. Recent studies suggest that entertaining and educational interventions might be effective at reducing such adversities, but little is known about the pattern of these responses and effects. Design Randomized controlled trial. Methods Adolescents with otorhinolaryngological surgery in hospital without any contraindictions for salivary cortisol enzyme immunoassays will be recruited and randomly allocated to experimental, placebo and control. Stress indicators will be collected regularly for 5 days. Standard audiovisual interventions will be displayed for experimental and placebo groups including a simultaneous video-recording of facial and behavioural changes on the second afternoon postadmission and stress indicators will be collected pre- and three times with 20-minute interval postintervention. Follow-up will be conducted to evaluate the longer term effects at 2 weeks, 1-month and 3 months postadmission, respectively. Descriptive and comparative analyses of stress indicators will be performed to examine group differences. Competitive funding was obtained from the Independent Innovation Foundation of Shandong University for interdisciplinary research in 2012. Previous studies have suggested that the daidzein metabolite equol rather than daidzein itself contributes to the beneficial effect of soya foods in the prevention of CVD. The aim of the present study is to examine the proportion of equol excretion in Chinese adults and compare plasma lipids and carotid artery intima–media thickness (IMT) between equol excretors and non-excretors, and to evaluate the effect of soya isoflavone intakes on serum lipids and IMT in either equol excretors or non-excretors. Subjects (n 572; women n 362, men n 210) were recruited for the present study. An overnight urine sample was provided by each subject on their usual diet to quantify urinary concentrations of daidzein and equol. Far-wall IMT was determined by B-mode ultrasound in the right carotid at two sites, carotid bulb (CB-IMT) and common carotid artery (CCA-IMT), and fasting serum lipids were measured. Habitual dietary intakes were estimated with a FFQ, and soya isoflavone intake derived from the FFQ was assessed. Of the 572 subjects, the proportion of equol excretors on their usual diet was 25·0 % (n 143). Compared with non-excretors, equol excretors showed significantly lower serum TAG ( − 38·2 (95 % CI − 70·4, − 5·9) %, P = 0·012) and CCA-IMT ( − 4·9 (95 % CI − 9·7, − 0·3) %, P = 0·033). Equol excretors with higher daily isoflavone intakes ( − 5·4 mg/d) had significantly lower IMT ( − 16·2 %, P = 0·035) and tended to have higher HDL-cholesterol (P = 0·055) than did those with lower daily isoflavone intakes (1·5 mg/d), while no association was observed between soya isoflavone intakes and serum lipids or IMT in non-excretors. Background: Current and historical events have both affected the current distribution patterns and intraspecific divergence of plants. While numerous studies have focused on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP), the impacts of such events on the flora of subtropical China remain poorly understood. Subtropical China is famous for its highly complex topography and the limited impact from glaciation during the Pleistocene; this may have resulted in a different genetic legacy for species in this region compared to fully glaciated areas. Methodology/Principal Findings: We used plastid and nuclear DNA sequence data and distribution modeling to analyze the divergence patterns and demographic history of Primula obconica Hance, a widespread herbaceous montane species in subtropical China. The phylogenetic analysis revealed two major lineages (lineage A and lineage B), representing a west-east split into the Yunnan and Eastern groups, and the Sichuan and Central groups, respectively. The Eastern and Central groups comprised relatively new derived haplotypes. Nested Clade Analysis and Bayesian Skyline Plot analyses both indicated that P. obconica mainly experienced a gradual expansion of populations. In addition, the simulated distribution of P. obconica during the Last Glacial Maximum was slightly larger than its present-day distribution. Conclusion/Significance: Our results are the first to identify a west-east migration of P. obconica. The gradual expansion pattern and a larger potential distribution range in cold periods detected for P. obconica indicate that the population expansion of this species is consistent with the phalanx model. MAN5, the main extracellular saccharide hydrolase from Bacillus sp. MSJ-5, is an endo-β-mannanase with a demand of at least five sugar moieties for effective cleavage. It has a pH optimum of 5.5 and a temperature optimum of 50°C and is stable at pH 5–9 or below 65°C. MAN5 has a very high ability to hydrolyze konjac flour, 10 U/mg of which could completely liquefy konjac flour gum in 10 min at 50°C. HPLC analysis showed that most glucomannan in the konjac flour was hydrolyzed into a large amount of oligosaccharides with DP of 2–6 and a very small amount of monosaccharide. With the culture supernatant as enzyme source, the optimum condition to prepare oligosaccharides from konjac flour was obtained as 10 mg/ml konjac flour incubated with 10 U/mg enzyme at 50°C for 24 h. With this condition, more than 90% polysaccharides in the konjac flour solution were hydrolyzed into oligosaccharides and a little monosaccharide (2.98% of the oligosaccharides). Konjac flour is an underutilized agricultural material with low commercial value in China. With MAN5, konjac flour can be utilized to generate high value-added oligosaccharides. Soil erosion is a serious environmental problem in Guizhou Province, which is located in the centre of the karst areas of southwestern China. Unfortunately, Guizhou Province suffers from a lack of financial resources to research, monitor and model soil erosion at large watershed. In order to assess the soil erosion risk, soil erosion modeling at the watershed scale are urgently needed to be undertaken. This study integrated the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) with a Geographic Information System (GIS) to estimate soil loss and identify the risk erosion areas in the Maotiao River watershed, which is a typical rural watershed in Guizhou Province. All factors used in the RUSLE were calculated for the watershed using local data. It was classified into five categories ranging from minimal risk to extreme erosion risk depending on the calculated soil erosion amount. The soil erosion map was linked to land use, elevation and slope maps to explore the relationship between soil erosion and environmental factors and identify the areas of soil erosion risk. The results can be used to advice the local government in prioritizing the areas of immediate erosion mitigation. The integrated approach allows for relatively easy, fast, and cost-effective estimation of spatially distributed soil erosion. Caragana species are woody legumes widely distributed in the arid regions of China. These plants form root nodules but their nodule bacteria have not been clearly classified. A total of 112 symbiotic bacterial isolates were obtained from four Caragana species grown in Liaoning Province and were characterized with ARDRA, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of proteins, BOX-PCR and sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Most of them were classified as Mesorhizobium belonging to 11 putative species. Three isolates were identified as Rhizobium etli and Burkholderia spp. This study offers new information about the Caragana–rhizobia association and resource for selection of inoculants used in sustainable agriculture and for further studies on the Caragana rhizobia. Karst rocky desertification is a typical type of land degradation in the Southwestern China. It has great ecological and economical implications for the local people. Landsat images from the middle of Guizhou Province collected in 1974, 1993 and 2001 were used for change detection of the pattern of Karst rocky desertification. The results show the following findings: (1) Desertification area expanded drastically in 27 years, at an increasing rate about 116.2 km2/year. (2) High areas (900–1,500 m) are the most affected. (3) Areas with the slope <5° or >25° are also easily tend to be Karst rocky deserted. (4) The process of Karst rocky desertification is nearly irreversible. Few areas of Karst rocky desertification could be meliorated to non-desertification land. (5) Most of the degraded lands are located in the south and the central of the study region, and the meliorated land areas are sparsely located in the east and the west part of the region. This paper presents the GIS-based stochastic model and its application to simulate land use change in Shiqian County, Southwestern China. Transition probability of land use change with biophysical factors such as elevation, slope, distance to stream, distance to road and adjacent cells with the same land use are calculated and integrated into this model. Then the model simulated 2001 land use pattern based on 1988 land use pattern and the results are satisfactory. Finally, three different land use scenarios are simulated using this model. Karst rocky desertification in karst areas of Southwest China is an obstacle for the sustainable development of the locality. While many researchers have studied this issue, this study quantified the various indicators affecting desertification, using GIS technology to extract spatial data and to construct a RBFN (radial basis function network) model for Guizhou province. By calibrating sample data of the different levels of karst rocky desertification, the model parameters were established, and then the assessment of karst rocky desertification. Results show that in counties of Southwestern Guizhou Province karst rocky desertification is severe, counties in northern Guizhou have moderate desertification, and southeastern counties are affected lightly. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in the world. However, due to the limited effectiveness and potential adverse effects of current treatments, the long-term prognosis of CVD patients is still discouraging. In recent years, several studies have found that berberine (BBR) has broad application prospects in the prevention and treatment of CVD. Due to its effectiveness and safety for gastroenteritis and diarrhea caused by bacterial infections, BBR has been widely used in China and other Asian countries since the middle of the last century. The development of pharmacology also provides evidence for the multi-targets of BBR in treating CVD. Researches on CVD, such as arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, dyslipidemia, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, myocarditis and cardiomyopathy, heart failure, etc., revealed the cardiovascular protective mechanisms of BBR. This review systematically summarizes the pharmacological research progress of BBR in the treatment of CVD in recent years, confirming that BBR is a promising therapeutic option for CVD. Pogostemon Desf., the largest genus of the tribe Pogostemoneae (Lamiaceae), consists of ca. 80 species distributed mainly from South and Southeast Asia to China. The genus contains many patchouli plants, which are of great economic importance but taxonomically difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to characterize more chloroplast (cp) genomes for infrageneric phylogeny analyses and species identification of Pogostemon, especially for patchouli plants. In this study, we newly generated four cp genomes for three patchouli plants (i.e., Pogostemon plectranthoides Desf., P. septentrionalis C. Y. Wu et Y. C. Huang, and two cultivars of P. cablin (Blanoco) Benth.). Comparison of all samples (including online available cp genomes of P. yatabeanus (Makino) Press and P. stellatus (Lour.) Kuntze) suggested that Pogostemon cp genomes are highly conserved in terms of genome size and gene content, with a typical quadripartite circle structure. Interspecific divergence of cp genomes has been maintained at a relatively low level, though seven divergence hotspot regions were identified by stepwise window analysis. The nucleotide diversity (Pi) value was correlated significantly with gap proportion (indels), but significantly negative with GC content. Our phylogenetic analyses based on 80 protein-coding genes yielded high-resolution backbone topologies for the Lamiaceae and Pogostemon. For the overall mean substitution rates, the synonymous (dS) and nonsynonymous (dN) substitution rate values of protein-coding genes varied approximately threefold, while the dN values among different functional gene groups showed a wider variation range. China has the largest population of people with disabilities in the developing world. These people are identified as a vulnerable group, and as such, they have attracted increased attention from the entire society. The present welfare system in urban areas of China, which has been constructed through a long history of development, is an integrative system involving several service providers. The relationships among the service providers have attracted scholars' attention. However, service users' perspectives of their interactions with different service providers have garnered less focus. This study adopts both a historical and an interactional understanding of disability in an effort to examine the development of social welfare for young people with disabilities in China. The qualitative method used in this practical research focuses on the subjective experiences of individuals obtaining welfare. A review of the existing research is also conducted, focusing on policies for young people with disabilities in China. We examine the transitional process and analyze the themes underlying the policies for families in which there are people with disabilities in the present welfare system. Based on our findings, we discuss the evolution of service provision, especially in regard to the way in which it reflects the disabled community and the rational employment market; we reveal the involution of service provision for families, involving both ethical and functional considerations in familistic Chinese culture; and we analyze the dilemma regarding supportive policies for families in which there are people with disabilities in urban China. Background: Kashin-Beck disease (KBD) is an endemic and chronic osteoarthropathy. At present, the diagnosis of KBD mainly depends on the X-ray examination and which could not reflect early damage of cartilage sensitively. So, the aim of this study was to find effective and sensitive biomarkers for early diagnosis of pediatric KBD. Methods: A total of 122 children aged 7–15 years old from 3 villages of Qinghai Province were eligible for the study. Thirty-one, 41, and 50 children were assigned in case, internal, and external control groups, respectively. The levels of CTX-II, C2C, and PYD in urine were measured by using ELISA and compared statistically. In addition, the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to assess the performance of diagnostic biomarkers. Results: There were significant differences in levels of CTX-II, C2C, and PYD in urine of subjects among three groups. The levels of CTX-II and PYD in the case group were significantly higher than those in external and internal control groups. On the contrary, the level of C2C in the case group was lower than that in the external control group. Compared to the external control group, the area under the curve (AUC) of CTX-II, C2C, and PYD were 0.857, 0.837, and 0.79, and the AUC of CTX-II significantly higher than that of PYD. Compared to the internal control group, the AUC of CTX-II, C2C, and PYD were 0.911, 0.875, and 0.839, and there were no significant differences in the AUC among three indicators. Conclusion: Both CTX-II and PYD in urine could be used as biomarkers for early diagnosis of pediatric KBD, and the prediction accuracy of CTX-II was relatively superior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to explore the purchase willingness of Chinese consumers for pork, beef, lamb, and rabbit meat. A conceptual framework and focus group discussions were adopted to design the questionnaire which included experience, eating habits, purchase drivers, purchase location, seasonality, and willingness to purchase red meat among Chinese consumers. Data collection was undertaken using an online platform questionnaire, with 4039 meat consumers participating in this study. By constructing the partial least squares – path modeling (PLS-PM) to explore the concerns of Chinese consumers while purchasing various types of red meats as well as the effect of these questions on consumers' willingness intensity to purchase red meat. Willingness intensity to purchase lamb is significantly affected by experience, seasonality, purchase location, eating habits, willingness, purchase drivers, and personal information; beef is affected by experience, seasonality, purchase location, eating habits, willingness, and personal information; pork is mainly affected by eating habits and purchase drivers; while eating habits, purchase location, and personal information have positive impacts on willingness intensity to purchase rabbit meat. This study developed the orthogonal matching pursuit – stochastic gradient descent (OMP-SDG) model, which integrated the questionnaire collecting personal information with the questionnaire on Chinese consumers' perceptions of red meat. The program can more precisely forecast which types of red meat people like and their degree of willingness. Finally, Chinese consumers preferred beef, lamb, pork, and rabbit meat in that order. Exploiting heat from abandoned mine water using heat pumps is attracting increasing attention worldwide. China has a large number of abandoned coal mines, but there are few applications of geothermal heat recovery from mine water. Here, we report a new case from Shandong, North China. Based on actual geological and underground space structures, numerical analysis is performed to study the flow and heat transfer in the complex connection network among roadways. For given temperature differences on the source side, the underground heat transfer is greatly influenced by flow rates in roadways. Under the acceptable performances and long-term stability of heat pumps, the maximum heat transfer capacity of roadways reaches 697.3 kW at the flow rate of 100 m3/h, with the power per unit length of 151.3 W/m, indicating a promising heat recovery potential. When switching between the extraction and injection well, both fluid directions and the distribution of flow rates in roadways change obviously, thereby affecting the underground heat transfer. Besides dominant flow paths, there exist weak flow paths, which can be identified by numerical analysis, and necessary blocking can be applied to optimize the flow and heat transfer. • The problem of voluntarily abandonment free health services among children with disabilities is caused by asymmetry between the ideology of egalitarianism and developmentalism. • Disability policy implementation from developmentalism produces the result of voluntarily abandonment through the governance methods and parents' attitudes approach. • The Governance methods produce invisible institutional exclusion in the form of non-client-centered tasks, constraints surrounding service costs, competitive welfare development models, and "good" performance chasing. • Parents treat children with disabilities as abnormal, unprofitable, burdensome, and tragic, which encourages the voluntarily abandonment of healthcare services. • The results of this study call for critical reflections to protect health and rehabilitation rights for children with disabilities. In terms of protecting children with disabilities, healthcare rights are a crucial issue that cannot be ignored. In China, although the government provides generous health services, children with disabilities abandoning those services is a common phenomenon. Few scholars have directly and systematically studied this important issue. Using a qualitative method, we investigated the experiences and feelings of six service providers and twelve primary caregivers. From an ideological conflict perspective, we have found that China is a social context in which the state-led ideology of egalitarianism and the ideology of developmentalism co-exist but clash at the level of local governments and organizations. We produced two themes: (a) Governance methods arising from developmentalism produce invisible institutional exclusion in the form of non-client-centered tasks, constraints surrounding service costs, competitive welfare development models, and "good" performance chasing; (b) parents operating under developmentalism treat children with disabilities as abnormal, unprofitable, burdensome, and tragic, which encourages the voluntarily abandonment of healthcare services. The interaction of these two themes strengthens the ideological split occurring between them, leading to the widespread deprivation of health rights among children with disabilities. Plastic film mulching (PFM) plays a critical role in improving crop production and sustainable development of agroecosystem in semiarid agriculture. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can form a mutualistic symbiosis with the vast majority of plant roots and have been shown to contribute to host growth in harsh conditions. Yet, whether the integrated application of PFM and AMF inoculation have an interactive effect on crop growth and production in semiarid regions with poor soil nutrients and water shortage has received rather less attention. Therefore, we performed a two-year field study to investigate the effects of PFM and AMF inoculation on spring maize growth, yield and water use efficiency (WUE). Four treatments, including non-mulching and non-AMF inoculation (CK), plastic film mulching (PFM), arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inoculation (AMF) and combination of plastic film mulching and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inoculation (PAMF), were compared in 2014 and 2015 at Shenmu Country on the semiarid Loess Plateau of Northwest China. Our results indicated that AMF inoculation contributed to increased plant biomass and height, although its effectiveness was lower than PFM alone or combined practice. Compared with the non-mulched control (CK), the mulched treatments significantly increased the average soil water content by 43.2% at the depth of 0–60 cm in 2014 and by 30.3% at the depth of 0–30 cm in 2015. The combination of PFM and AMF inoculation had the greatest soil water content at different soil depths in both years. AMF inoculation significantly improved root mycorrhizal colonization and external hyphal length in both years. Meanwhile, mycorrhizal plants under PFM had significantly greater root tip number and surface area when compared with the control. PAMF treatment had the highest yield and WUE among all treatments. Compared with the CK, PAMF treatment increased the yield and WUE by55.6% and 43.1% in 2014 and by 39.3% and 45.6% in 2015, respectively. Moreover, the mycorrhizal dependency of maize yield was more notable in mycorrhizal plants grown in mulched soils than in bare soils. In conclusion, the combined application of PFM and AMF inoculation is an effective and favorable agricultural practice in nutrition-deficiency soil in semiarid regions of China because of improved root morphological traits and enhanced topsoil water content that increase crop productivity. A cross-sectional study design was applied amongst a random sample (n = 10158) of Chinese adolescents. Self-completed questionnaires, including demographic characteristics, Internet use situation, Youth Internet Addiction Test, Youth Social Support Rating Scale and Zung Self-rating Depression Scale were utilized to examine the study objectives. Among the study population, the prevalence rate of Internet addiction was 10.4%, with 1038 (10.2%) moderately and 21 (0.2%) severely addicted to the Internet. Results from the multivariate logistic regression analyses suggested that a variety of related factors have significant effects on Internet addiction (parental control, per capita annual household income, academic performance, the access to Internet, online activities). The correlation coefficients showed that Internet addiction was negatively correlated with social support and positively associated with depression. Social support had a significant negative predictive effect on Internet addiction. The mediating effect of depression between social support and Internet addiction was remarkable. Abstract: Background: Linezolid (LZD), an oxazolidinone antibiotic agent, has excellent activity and bioavailability against most methicillin-sensitive and methicillin-resistant gram-positive bacteria. Although LZD is generally well tolerated, several studies have found adverse hematologic effects, of which thrombocytopenia is of most concern. Objective: To investigate the risk factors for thrombocytopenia in patients who received oral or parenteral LZD therapy between February 1 and November 30, 2010. Methods: Data were extracted retrospectively from the electronic medical records in our hospital information system. Thrombocytopenia was defined as either a final platelet count of <100 × 109/L (criterion 1) or a 25% reduction from the baseline platelet count (criterion 2). Risk factors were determined using logistic regression analysis, and clinical features were predicted using receiver operating characteristic curves. Results: The study included 254 patients, with mean (SD) age of 59 (17.66) years. The duration of LZD therapy was 9.43 (5.63) days. Thrombocytopenia developed in 69 patients (27.2%), as defined by criterion 1, and in 127 patients (50%), as defined by criterion 2. At univariate analysis, age, weight, creatinine clearance, serum albumin concentration, baseline platelet count, daily dosage, and concomitant use of caspofungin, levofloxacin, and meropenem were significant risk factors for thrombocytopenia. At multivariate analysis and using ROC curves, daily dose ≥18.75 mg/kg, baseline platelet count ≤181 × 109/L, duration of LZD therapy ≥10 days, and concomitant use of caspofungin and levofloxacin were independent risk factors for thrombocytopenia as defined by criterion 1, whereas creatinine clearance ≤88.39 mL/min/1.73 m2, serum albumin concentration ≤33.5 g/L, daily dose ≥18.46 mg/kg, and caspofungin were independent risk factors for thrombocytopenia as defined by criterion 2. Conclusions: The incidence of LZD-related thrombocytopenia in the Chinese population is much higher than that suggested by the drug instructions. Low pretreatment platelet count, low body weight, low serum albumin concentration, long-term drug administration, advanced age, renal insufficiency, and concomitant use of caspofungin, levofloxacin, and meropenem have been identified as risk factors. Although predictors have been proposed for use in clinical practice to screen for patients at high risk who require intensified monitoring, further research on the dosage-based pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of LZD are urgently needed.
