Summary: Blinatumomab is efficacious in patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), yet limited real-world data exists in this context. This retrospective study provided real-world data on the treatment pattern, effectiveness, and safety of blinatumomab in Chinese patients with newly diagnosed (ND) and relapsed/refractory (R/R) B-ALL. Patients with B-ALL who received at least one dose of blinatumomab in frontline or R/R settings between August 2021 and June 2023 were included. The primary outcome was the treatment pattern of blinatumomab. Key secondary outcomes included complete remission (CR)/CR with incomplete blood cell recovery (CRi) rate, minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity, median event-free survival (EFS), and safety. The study included 96 patients with B-ALL; 53 (55.2%) patients were in the ND group and 43 (44.8%) patients were in the R/R group. The median treatment duration was one cycle (range: 1–5). Most patients underwent chemotherapies, allo-HSCT, or experimental CAR-T following blinatumomab. The ND patients using blinatumomab induction therapy achieved 100% CR/CRi rate; 87.2% achieved MRD negativity within two cycles of blinatumomab. In R/R re-induction patients, the CR/CRi rate was 50%; MRD negativity rate was 64.2%. In R/R patients using blinatumomab for consolidation, MRD negativity rate was 90.9%. The median EFS was not reached in both ND and R/R patients; 1-year EFS rate was 90.8% (95% CI: 67%, 97%) and 55.1% (95% CI: 30%, 74%), respectively. Objective: This study aimed to identify differential metabolites and key metabolic pathways between lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tissues and normal lung (NL) tissues using metabolomics techniques, to discover potential biomarkers for the early diagnosis of lung cancer. Material and Methods: Forty-five patients with primary ground-glass nodules (GGN) identified on computed tomography imaging and who were willing to undergo surgery at Shanghai General Hospital from December 2021 to December 2022 were recruited to the study. All participants underwent video thoracoscopy surgery with segmental or wedge resection of the lung. Tissue samples for pathological examination were collected from the site of ground-glass nodules (GGN) lesion and 3 cm away from the lesion (NL). The pathology results were 35 lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cases (13 invasive adenocarcinoma, 14 minimally invasive adenocarcinoma, and eight adenocarcinoma in situ), 10 benign samples, and 45 NL tissues. For the untargeted metabolomics technique, 25 LUAD samples were assigned as the case group and 30 NL tissues as the control group. For the targeted metabolomics technique, ten LUAD samples were assigned as the case group and 15 NL tissues as the control group. Samples were analyzed by untargeted and targeted metabolomics, with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry detection used as part of the experimental procedure. Results: Untargeted metabolomics revealed 164 differential metabolites between the case and control groups, comprising 110 up regulations and 54 down regulations. The main metabolic differences found by the untargeted method were organic acids and their derivatives. Targeted metabolomics revealed 77 differential metabolites between the case and control groups, comprising 69 up regulations and eight down regulations. The main metabolic changes found by the targeted method were fatty acids, amino acids, and organic acids. The levels of organic acids such as lactic acid, fumaric acid, and malic acid were significantly increased in LUAD tissue compared to NL. Specifically, an increased level of L-lactic acid was found by both untargeted (variable importance in projection [VIP] = 1.332, fold-change [FC] = 1.678, q = 0.000) and targeted metabolomics (VIP = 1.240, FC = 1.451, q = 0.043). Targeted metabolomics also revealed increased levels of fumaric acid (VIP = 1.481, FC = 1.764, q = 0.106) and L-malic acid (VIP = 1.376, FC = 1.562, q = 0.012). Most of the 20 differential fatty acids identified were downregulated, including dodecanoic acid (VIP = 1.416, FC = 0.378, q = 0.043) and tridecane acid (VIP = 0.880, FC = 0.780, q = 0.106). Furthermore, increased levels of differential amino acids were found in LUAD samples. Conclusion: Lung cancer is a complex and heterogeneous disease with diverse genetic alterations. The study of metabolic profiles is a promising research field in this cancer type. Targeted and untargeted metabolomics revealed significant differences in metabolites between LUAD and NL tissues, including elevated levels of organic acids, decreased levels of fatty acids, and increased levels of amino acids. Ovarian cancer is a common, highly lethal tumor. Herein, we reported that S-phase kinase-associated protein 2 (Skp2) is essential for the growth and aerobic glycolysis of ovarian cancer cells. Skp2 was upregulated in ovarian cancer tissues and associated with poor clinical outcomes. Using a customized natural product library screening, we found that xanthohumol inhibited aerobic glycolysis and cell viability of ovarian cancer cells. Xanthohumol facilitated the interaction between E3 ligase Cdh1 and Skp2 and promoted the Ub-K48-linked polyubiquitination of Skp2 and degradation. Cdh1 depletion reversed xanthohumol-induced Skp2 downregulation, enhancing HK2 expression and glycolysis in ovarian cancer cells. Finally, a xenograft tumor model was employed to examine the antitumor efficacy of xanthohumol in vivo. Collectively, we discovered that xanthohumol promotes the binding between Skp2 and Cdh1 to suppress the Skp2/AKT/HK2 signal pathway and exhibits potential antitumor activity for ovarian cancer cells. Background: Long non-coding RNA Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 2 (ZEB2) antisense RNA 1 (ZEB2-AS1) has been shown to promote tumor progression. However, the clinical significance and fundamental function role of ZEB2-AS1 in osteosarcoma (OS) has been poorly understood. Methods: The expression of ZEB2-AS1 was determined in tumor tissues and matched normal tissues from 67 OS patients using quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR analysis. Clinical value of ZEB2-AS1 was evaluated by χ2 test and Kaplan-Meier method. Cell proliferation was analyzed using CCK-8 assay, colony formation. Cell apoptosis status was determined by caspase-3 activity assay. Cell migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) were investigated by scratch wound healing, transwell invasion assays and Western blotting. Results: Clinical association analysis revealed that high ZEB2-AS1 expression correlated with tumor size, distant metastasis and poor prognosis of OS patients. Moreover, ZEB2-AS1 expression was identified as an independent prognostic factor for OS patients. Loss-of-function assays demonstrated that ZEB2-AS1 knockdown suppressed the proliferation and induced apoptosis in OS cells. In addition, ZEB2-AS1 knockdown inhibited cell migration, invasion, EMT of OS cells in vitro. The rearranged during transfection (RET) gene is one of the receptor tyrosine kinases and cell‐surface molecules responsible for transmitting signals that regulate cell growth and differentiation. In non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), RET fusion is a rare driver gene alteration associated with a poor prognosis. Fortunately, two selective RET inhibitors (sRETi), namely pralsetinib and selpercatinib, have been approved for treating RET fusion NSCLC due to their remarkable efficacy and safety profiles. These inhibitors have shown the ability to overcome resistance to multikinase inhibitors (MKIs). Furthermore, ongoing clinical trials are investigating several second‐generation sRETis that are specifically designed to target solvent front mutations, which pose a challenge for first‐generation sRETis. The effective screening of patients is the first crucial step in the clinical application of RET‐targeted therapy. Currently, four methods are widely used for detecting gene rearrangements: next‐generation sequencing (NGS), reverse transcription‐polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Each of these methods has its advantages and limitations. To streamline the clinical workflow and improve diagnostic and treatment strategies for RET fusion NSCLC, our expert group has reached a consensus. Objective: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a virus that is ubiquitous in humans. To investigate the association between EBV infection and lung cancer risk to reveal whether it is involved in the development and development of lung cancer. Although there has been discussion of EBV and lung cancer in the past. Through this study, we hope to deepen our understanding of the causes of lung cancer and provide new clues and targets for the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. This study is also beneficial to the development of medical science and public health. First of all, the research results are expected to be incorporated into lung cancer prevention and treatment strategies and policies, so as to provide better treatment decisions for lung cancer patients and improve the survival rate and quality of life of patients. Overall, this study makes an important contribution to both medical science and public health. Method: By September 26, 2022, an online database was used to conduct a literature search in English. Random effects models were employed to estimate the prevalence of EBV with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Additionally, the pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95%CI were calculated from case-control studies to determine the association between EBV and lung cancer. Results: In this study of 886 patients with lung cancer, the overall prevalence of EBV infection was found to be 44.36% (95%CI: 4.08-16.9). Fourteen studies were included in the analysis, all of which used a case-control design and involved comparisons of tumors with adjacent or non-adjacent normal and noncancerous controls. There was a significant difference in the prevalence of EBV infection in lung cancer tissues between China and other regions, with an odds ratio (OR) of 9.36 (95% confidence interval: 4.00-21.94, P<0.001, I²=73.5%). This suggests that the association between EBV infection and lung cancer cases is stronger in China than in other regions. Additionally, the prevalence of EBV infection varied across different pathological types of lung cancer, with rates of 81.08% for pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC),this a rare subtype of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).34.78% for non-small cell lung cancer, and 21.17% for small cell lung cancer. The statistical analysis indicated that EBV infection was most significantly associated with cancer risk in LELC, while non-small cell lung cancer was more strongly associated with EBV than small cell lung cancer. Conclusion: The study found that EBV infection increases the risk of lung cancer by more than four times, and this risk is associated with the pathological type, lymphatic infiltration, and degree of differentiation of the lung cancer, particularly in the rare subtype of pulmonary lymphoepithelioma in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC). Additionally, there are racial and regional differences in the correlation between EBV-infected lung cancer, with the Asian population showing greater susceptibility. Context.--Minimal/measurable residual disease (MRD) measured by molecular and multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) has been proven to be predictive of relapse and survival in patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). A universally applicable antibody panel at a low cost but without compromising sensitivity and power of prognosis prediction in adult B-ALL remains unestablished. Objective.--To report our experience of using a single-tube 8-color MFC panel to measure the MRD status as a prognostic indicator in adult B-ALL patients. Design.--We retrospectively analyzed the characteristics, MRD status, and prognosis of adult B-ALL based on a large real-world cohort of 486 patients during a 10-year period. Results.--MRD assessed by MFC and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays for BCR-ABL+ patients showed concordant results in 74.2% of cases. MRD- status by our MFC panel could clearly predict a favorable relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) both at the end of induction and at the end of 1 consolidation course. Patients with continuous MRD- and with at least 1 MRD- result showed a favorable RFS and OS compared with those with at least 1 MRD+ result and continuous MRD+, respectively. Conclusions.--The single-tube 8-color MFC panel demonstrated a low cost, decent sensitivity, and comparability with polymerase chain reaction--MRD but an excellent performance in predicting RFS and OS, and thus could potentially be taken as a routine indicator in the evaluation of the treatment response for adult patients with B-ALL. Purpose: Medical students play an essential role in providing disease consultation for patients. Despite the rapid increase in thyroid disease, there are few data on how well Chinese medical students master the knowledge of thyroid diseases. This study aims to evaluate the clinical knowledge, perception, and clinical communication confidence of medical students on thyroid cancer (TC).Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out among medical students of Chongqing Medical University. An anonymous, self-administered questionnaire distributed from December 2022 to February 2023 included items on demographics and other information, the warning signs of cancer, perception regarding a person's chance of developing cancer, and clinical communication confidence. Descriptive analysis, difference analysis, and correlation analysis were carried out.Results: A total of 226 medical students participated in the survey. Most students (n=191, 84.5%) had heard of TC, while only a few (n=10, 4.4%) regularly performed thyroid self-examination. One hundred and eighty-four students (81.4%) agreed that an unexplained lump or swelling could be a sign of cancer. There were significant differences in thyroid clinical knowledge in relation to gender (P< 0.001), major (P=0.026), and thyroid disease (P=0.030). Clinical communication confidence showed significant differences in year of study (P=0.002), major (P=0.048), and graduate major (P< 0.001). There was a correlation between clinical confidence and year of study (r=0.261, P< 0.001).Conclusion: Most medical students have sufficient clinical knowledge on TC prevention, but there are still misconceptions related to TC screening. In addition, medical students lack confidence in communicating with patients. Background: Artemisiae Scopariae Herba (ASH) has been widely used as plant medicine in East Asia with remarkable antitumor activity. However, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Methods: This study aimed to construct a multi-disciplinary approach to screen topoisomerase I (topo I) inhibitors from ASH extract, and explore the antitumor mechanisms. Bioaffinity ultrafiltration-UFLC-ESI-Q/TOF-MS/MS was used to identify chemical constitution of ASH extract as well as the topo I inhibitors, and in silico docking coupled with multiple complex networks was applied to interpret the molecular mechanisms. Results: Crude ASH extract exhibited toxicogenetic and antiproliferative activities on A549 cells. A series of 34 ingredients were identified from the extract, and 6 compounds were screened as potential topo I inhibitors. Docking results showed that the formation of hydrogen bond and π-π stacking contributed most to their binding with topo I. Interrelationships among the 6 compounds, related targets and pathways were analyzed by multiple complex networks model. These networks displayed power-law degree distribution and small-world property. Statistical analysis indicated that isorhamnetin and quercetin were main active ingredients, and that chemical carcinogenesis-reactive oxygen species was the critical pathway. Electrophoretic results showed a therapeutic effect of ASH extract on the conversion of supercoiled DNA to relaxed forms, as well as potential synergistic effect of isorhamnetin and quercetin. Conclusions: The results improved current understanding of Artemisiae Scopariae Herba on the treatment of tumor. Background: The associations between metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and cancer development, especially extrahepatic cancers, are unknown. The aims of the current study were to investigate the cancer incidence rates of MAFLD and analyze the associations between MAFLD and the development of cancers. Methods: This historical cohort study included participants who underwent ultrasonographic detection of hepatic steatosis at a tertiary hospital in China from January 2013 to October 2021. MAFLD was diagnosed in accordance with The International Expert Consensus Statement. Cox proportional hazards regression modeling was used to assess the associations between MAFLD and the development of cancers. Results: Of the 47,801 participants, 16,093 (33.7%) had MAFLD. During the total follow-up of 175,137 person-years (median 3.3 years), the cancer incidence rate in the MAFLD group was higher than that in the non-MAFLD group [473.5 vs. 255.1 per 100,000 person-years; incidence rate ratio 1.86; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.57–2.19]. After adjustment for age, gender, smoking status, and alcohol status, MAFLD was moderately associated with cancers of the female reproductive system/organs (labium, uterus, cervix, and ovary) [hazard ratio (HR) 2.24; 95% CI 1.09–4.60], thyroid (HR 3.64; 95% CI 1.82–7.30), and bladder (HR 4.19; 95% CI 1.15–15.27) in the total study cohort. Conclusion: MAFLD was associated with the development of cancers of the female reproductive system/organs (labium, uterus, cervix, and ovary), thyroid, and bladder in the total study cohort. Simple Summary: TCIRG1, also known as V-ATPase-a3, is critical for cellular metabolism, membrane transport, and intracellular signaling through its dependent acidification. In earlier research, TCIRG1 was found to be dysregulated in several cancers and to accelerate the growth of various malignancies. The molecular mechanisms behind TCIRG1 and its possible role in the development of clear cell renal cell carcinoma are still poorly understood. Our research is the first to thoroughly examine TCIRG1's function in clear cell renal cell carcinoma prognosis, immunity, and treatment. The validity that TCIRG1 can accelerate the development of renal clear cell carcinoma was also confirmed in this work by using certain testable experiments. This establishes the theoretical framework for our future investigation into the occurrence and progression of clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Background: TCIRG1, also known as V-ATPase-a3, is critical for cellular life activities through its dependent acidification. Prior to the present research, its relationship with prognostic and tumor immunity in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) had not yet been investigated. Methods: We assessed TCIRG1 expression in normal and tumor tissues using data from TCGA, GEO, GTEX, and IHC. We also analyzed the relationship between TCIRG1 and somatic mutations, TMB, DNA methylation, cancer stemness, and immune infiltration. We evaluated the relevance of TCIRG1 to immunotherapy and potential drugs. Finally, we explored the effect of TCIRG1 knockdown on tumor cells. Results: TCIRG1 was overexpressed in tumor tissue and predicted a significantly unfavorable clinical outcome. High TCIRG1 expression may be associated with fewer PBRM1 and more BAP1 mutations and may reduce DNA methylation, thus leading to a poor prognosis. TCIRG1 was strongly associated with CD8+ T-cell, Treg, and CD4+ T-cell infiltration. Moreover, TCIRG1 was positively correlated with TIDE scores and many drug sensitivities. Finally, experiments showed that the knockdown of TCIRG1 inhibited the migration of ccRCC cells. Cancer has become the most common cause of death in China. Owing to rapid economic development, improved livelihood, and shifts in risk factors, cancer epidemiology has experienced substantial changes during the past several decades. In this review, we aim to describe the current cancer epidemiology of the main types of cancer in China, report major risk factors associated with cancer development, and summarize the contributions of the Chinese government to controlling the cancer burden. A total of 4,064,000 new cases were diagnosed in China in 2016. The most frequent types are lung cancer (828,100; 20.4%), colorectal cancer (408,000; 10.0%), and gastric cancer (396,500; 9.8%). Lung (657,000; 27.2%), liver (336,400, 13.9%), and stomach (288,500; 12.0%) cancers are the 3 most deadly cancers in the general population. The 5-year survival rate for cancer has dramatically increased in recent decades. However, liver and particularly pancreatic cancers still have the poorest prognosis. The main modifiable risk factors associated with cancer development include infectious agents, smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, unhealthful dietary habits, and inadequate physical activity. Eucommia ulmoides Oliver (E. ulmoides) is a popular medicinal herb and health supplement in China, Japan, and Korea, and has a variety of pharmaceutical properties. The neuroendocrine–immune (NEI) network is crucial in maintaining homeostasis and physical or psychological functions at a holistic level, consistent with the regulatory theory of natural medicine. This review aims to systematically summarize the chemical compositions, biological roles, and pharmacological properties of E. ulmoides to build a bridge between it and NEI-associated diseases and to provide a perspective for the development of its new clinical applications. After a review of the literature, we found that E. ulmoides has effects on NEI-related diseases including cancer, neurodegenerative disease, hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis, insomnia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. However, clinical studies on E. ulmoides were scarce. In addition, E. ulmoides derivatives are diverse in China, and they are mainly used to enhance immunity, improve hepatic damage, strengthen bones, and lower blood pressure. Through network pharmacological analysis, we uncovered the possibility that E. ulmoides is involved in functional interactions with cancer development, insulin resistance, NAFLD, and various inflammatory pathways associated with NEI diseases. Esophageal cancer (EC) threatens many lives in China, especially in areas with high incidences of EC. Our previous studies proved that zinc deficiency (ZD) promotes the cell cycle, thus promoting the progression of EC in areas with a high incidence of EC. Artesunate could inhibit the cell cycle, thereby inhibiting the progression of EC. In this study, we first demonstrated the mechanism by which artesunate inhibits EC in vitro and then demonstrated that artesunate could reverse the ZD-promoted progression of EC before EC occurred in vivo. The results showed that artesunate could inhibit the cell cycle, metastasis, and glycolysis of EC cells. Artesunate could target HK1, promote HK1 degradation, and reduce the levels of HIF-1α and PKM2 expression, which are key glycolysis enzymes. The in vivo results showed that ZD could increase the expression of HK1 and increase the incidence of EC. Artesunate reduced the incidence of EC and decreased the level of HK1 expression before EC occurred. Artesunate has an anti-EC effect by inhibiting aerobic glycolysis and has the potential to be a drug that prevents EC in areas with a high risk of EC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It has been 40 years since the Chinese Environmental Mutagen Society (CEMS) was established in 1981. Now, it has grown a first-level national society in China, which has 15 professional committees and more than 5000 members. Over the past 40 years, the CEMS has been making many contributions to advance the research of environmental mutagens in China and cultivate professional talents in this field. In the twenty-first century, looking back on what the CEMS has gone through and accomplished, and in light of the major changes in our tasks and mission in the new era, we must plan well for the future, to overcome our shortcomings, to embrace greater development of the CEMS. Background: Upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUT-UC) is a rare and severe urinary malignancy. Several studies have explored the relationship between preoperative urine cytology and intravesical recurrence (IVR) in patients with UUT-UC. However, the results of these studies are controversial or even contradictory, and investigations with UUT-UC patients in northeast China are rare. Methods: We first estimated the prognostic significance of preoperative urine cytology in the outcomes of intravesical recurrence in 231 UUT-UC patients (training cohort = 142, validation cohort = 89) after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) by the nomogram model. Subsequently, we quantitatively combined our results with the published data after searching several databases to assess whether preoperative positive urine cytology was associated with poor intravesical recurrence-free survival and a high risk of tumor malignant biological behavior. Results: Firstly, the multicenter retrospective cohort study demonstrated that preoperative positive urine cytology correlated with poor intravesical recurrence-free survival and can serve as significant independent predictors of IVR by Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox regression analysis. The construction of the nomogram demonstrated that predictive efficacy and accuracy were significantly improved when preoperative urine cytology was combined. Meanwhile, meta-analysis showed that preoperative positive urine cytology was associated with a 49% increased risk of IVR. In the subgroup analysis by region, study type, and sample size, the pooled hazard ratios (HRs) were statistically significant for the Japan subgroup (HR 1.32), China subgroup (HR 1.88), cohort study subgroup (HR 1.45), and the single-arm study subgroup (HR 1.63). Conclusions: Preoperative urine cytology was validated as a potential predictor of intravesical recurrence in patients with UUT-UC after RNU, although these results need to be generalized with caution. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 accounts for a larger share of cervical cancer and has been a major health problem worldwide for decades. The progression of initial infection to cervical cancer has been linked to viral sequence properties; however, the role of HPV16 variants in the risk of cervical carcinogenesis, especially with longitudinal follow-up, is not fully understood in China.Methods: We aimed to investigate the genetic variability of HPV16 E6 and E7 oncogenes in isolates from cervical exfoliated cells. Between December 2012 and December 2014, a total of 310 single HPV16-positive samples were selected from women living in the Taizhou area, China. Sequences of all E6 and E7 oncogenes were analysed by PCR-sequencing assay. Detailed sequence comparison, genetic heterogeneity analyses and maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree construction were performed with BioEdit Sequence Alignment Editor and MEGA X software. Data for cytology tests and histological diagnoses were obtained from our Taizhou Area Study with longitudinal follow-up for at least 5 years. The relationship between HPV16 variants and cervical carcinogenesis risk was analysed by the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test.Results: In this study, we obtained 64 distinct variation patterns with the accession GenBank numbers MT681266-MT681329. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that 98.3% of HPV16 variants belong to lineage A, in which the A4 (Asian) sublineage was dominant (64.8%), followed by A2 (12.1%), A1 (11.4%), and A3 (10.0%). The A4 (Asian) sublineage had a higher risk of CIN2+ than the A1-3 (European) sublineages (OR = 2.69, 95% CI = 1.04-6.97, P < 0.05). Furthermore, nucleotide variation in HPV16 E6 T178G is associated with the development of cervical cancer.Conclusion: These data could provide novel insights into the role of HPV16 variants in cervical carcinogenesis risk in China. N-nitrosamines in reservoir water have drawn significant attention because of their carcinogenic properties. Karst reservoirs containing dissolved organic matter (DOM) are important drinking water sources and are susceptible to contamination because of the fast flow of various contaminants. However, it remains unclear whether N-nitrosamines and their precursor, DOM, spread in karst reservoirs. Therefore, this study quantitatively investigated the occurrence and sources of N-nitrosamines based on DOM properties in three typical karst reservoirs and their corresponding tap water. The results showed that N-nitrosamines were widely spread, with detection frequencies > 85%. Similar dominant compounds, including N-nitrosodimethylamine, N-nitrosomethylethylamine, N-nitrosopyrrolidine, and N-nitrosodibutylamine, were observed in reservoirs and tap water, with average concentrations of 4.7-8.9 and 2.8-6.7 ng/L, respectively. The average carcinogenic risks caused by these N-nitrosamines were higher than the risk level of 10 -6 . Three-dimensional fluorescence excitation-emission matrix modeling revealed that DOM was composed of humus-like component 1 (C1) and protein-like component 2 (C2). Fluorescence indicators showed that DOM in reservoir water was mainly affected by exogenous pollution and algal growth, whereas in tap water, DOM was mainly affected by microbial growth with strong autopoietic properties. In the reservoir water, N-nitrosodiethylamine and N-nitrosopiperidine were significantly correlated with C2 and biological indicators, indicating their endogenously generated sources. Based on the principal component analysis and multiple linear regression methods, five sources of N-nitrosamines were identified: agricultural pollution, microbial sources, humus sources, degradation processes, and other factors, accounting for 46.8%, 36.1%, 7.82%, 8.26%, and 0.96%, respectively. For tap water, two sources, biological reaction processes, and water distribution systems, were identified, accounting for 75.7% and 24.3%, respectively. Over half of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases diagnosed worldwide are in China 1-3 . However, whole-genome analysis of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated HCC in Chinese individuals is limited 4-8 , with current analyses of HCC mainly from non-HBV-enriched populations 9,10 . Here we initiated the Chinese Liver Cancer Atlas (CLCA) project and performed deep whole-genome sequencing (average depth, 120×) of 494 HCC tumours. We identified 6 coding and 28 non-coding previously undescribed driver candidates. Five previously undescribed mutational signatures were found, including aristolochic-acid-associated indel and doublet base signatures, and a single-base-substitution signature that we termed SBS&#95;H8. Pentanucleotide context analysis and experimental validation confirmed that SBS&#95;H8 was distinct to the aristolochic-acid-associated SBS22. Notably, HBV integrations could take the form of extrachromosomal circular DNA, resulting in elevated copy numbers and gene expression. Our high-depth data also enabled us to characterize subclonal clustered alterations, including chromothripsis, chromoplexy and kataegis, suggesting that these catastrophic events could also occur in late stages of hepatocarcinogenesis. Pathway analysis of all classes of alterations further linked non-coding mutations to dysregulation of liver metabolism. Finally, we performed in vitro and in vivo assays to show that fibrinogen alpha chain (FGA), determined as both a candidate coding and non-coding driver, regulates HCC progression and metastasis. A total of 30 samples from the downwind direction of a certain electroplating company in Jiaxing were collected in layers to analyze their heavy metal content. The soil risk assessment was conducted from the perspective of ecological and human health risks using the ground accumulation index method and human health risk assessment method. The results showed that in all samples, cadmium and arsenic far exceeded the soil background values, with an average exceeding multiple of 14.31 and 64.42, respectively, and a exceeding rate of 100%. After evaluation by the ground accumulation index, among these six heavy metals, arsenic and cadmium belong to extremely serious pollution levels. The human health risk assessment of electroplating plants found that in the exposure risk assessment, the ingestion value was much greater than the harm caused by breathing and skin, and the maximum exposure damage value of arsenic to children and adults was 4.17 × 10 -3 , among the carcinogenic risks, the risk brought by consumption is much greater than the respiratory and skin carcinogenic risk index, with the highest value score of 3.37 for cadmium, arsenic, and zinc carcinogenic risks 3.37 × 10 -6 , 2.42 × 10 -3 , 1.10 × 10 -4 ., (© 2024. The presence of minimal residual disease (MRD) is a risk factor for relapse among children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and eliminating MRD can usually improve survival rates. To investigate the effect of expanded activated autologous lymphocytes (EAALs) combined with chemotherapy on eliminating MRD and improving survival rates of children with AML, we retrospectively analyzed the results of 115 children with low- or intermediate-risk AML with MRD treated at the Pediatric Hematological Center, Peking University People's Hospital, between January 2010 and January 2016. The patients were assigned to the chemotherapy plus EAAL (combined therapy) group (n = 61) and chemotherapy group (n = 54). The MRD-negativity rates were 95.1% (58/61) in the combined therapy group and 63.0% (34/54) in the chemotherapy group (P < 0.0001) during consolidation treatment. The 5-year event-free survival rate was higher in the combined therapy group than in the chemotherapy group (86.3 ± 4.6% vs. 72.1 ± 6.1%, P = 0.025). No severe adverse event was observed after EAAL infusion. The present study showed that EAAL combined with chemotherapy could improve the MRD-negativity rate and event-free survival rate among children with AML with low level MRD-positive status. There were no systematic researches about autophagy-related long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) signatures to predict the survival of patients with colon adenocarcinoma. It was necessary to set up corresponding autophagy-related lncRNA signatures. The expression profiles of lncRNAs which contained 480 colon adenocarcinoma samples were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The coexpression network of lncRNAs and autophagy-related genes was utilized to select autophagy-related lncRNAs. The lncRNAs were further screened using univariate Cox regression. In addition, Lasso regression and multivariate Cox regression were used to develop an autophagy-related lncRNA signature. A risk score based on the signature was established, and Cox regression was used to test whether it was an independent prognostic factor. The functional enrichment of autophagy-related lncRNAs was visualized using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. Ten prognostic autophagy-related lncRNAs (AC027307.2, AC068580.3, AL138756.1, CD27-AS1, EIF3J-DT, LINC01011, LINC01063, LINC02381, AC073896.3, and SNHG16) were identified to be significantly different, which made up an autophagy-related lncRNA signature. The signature divided patients with colon adenocarcinoma into the low-risk group and the high-risk group. A risk score based on the signature was a significantly independent factor for the patients with colon adenocarcinoma (HR = 1.088 , 95 % CI = 1.057 − 1.120 ; P < 0.001). Additionally, the ten lncRNAs were significantly enriched in autophagy process, metabolism, and tumor classical pathways. Objective. To investigate the association between programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) coupled with CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILS) and the clinicopathological features, along with prognosis of cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC). Methods. 95 patients of CSCC received tumor resection at the Department of Pathology of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) from 2015 to 2020. Full-automatic immunohistochemistry was applied to measure PD-L1 expression and CD8+ TILS density. Our literature deeply assessed the links between PD-L1 expression, clinicopathological features, and the influences of combination of PD-L1 and CD8+ TILS (PD-L1+/CD8+ TILS) on the prognosis of CSCC. Results. 64.21% of CSCC patients (61/95) expressed PD-L1, and PD-L1 expression was related to the Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, tumor size, invasion depth, differentiation degree, metastasis of lymph node, and vascular invasion (P < 0.05). Dramatic correlation between PD-L1 expression and CD8+ TILS density was illustrated in CSCC patients (r = − 0.461 , P < 0.001). Obvious differences in differentiation degree, FIGO stage, infiltration depth, and lymph node metastasis were shown between patients with PD-L1 coupled with high-density of CD8+ TILS and those with PD-L1 coupled with low-density of CD8+ TILS (P < 0.05). Patients with PD-L1 negative expression exhibited better prognosis compared with those with PD-L1 positive expression (P < 0.05). Patients with PD-L1 coupled with high-density of CD8+ TILS showed better prognostic status, while those with PD-L1 coupled with low-density of CD8+ TILS had worse prognostic condition (P < 0.05). Differentiation, metastasis of lymph node, and FIGO stage were substantive impact elements of a CSCC patient's overall survival (OS) by Cox multivariate analysis. Conclusions. CD8+ TILS density is related to PD-L1 expression in carcinoma. Background: Currently, the expression patterns of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family genes in sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) and inverted papilloma with squamous cell carcinoma (IPwSCC) are not clear. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the expression of EGFR family members and their ligands in SNIP and IPwSCC and to analyze their correlations with SNIP histological grade and Krouse stage. Materials and methods: Data from 25 cases of inverted papilloma patients in China were collected and divided into 16 cases in the SNIP group and 9 in the IPwSCC group. In addition, eight cases of normal nasal mucosa (NNM) were collected and used as the control group. The expression levels of EGFR family members and their ligands in the NNM and SNIP groups and EGFR family members in the IPwSCC group were evaluated using immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR. In addition, their correlations with the SNIP histological grade and Krouse stage were analyzed. The statistical analysis was performed using the GraphPad Prism 7.0 statistical software. Results: The ErbB1 and ErbB2 mRNA and protein expression levels were significantly higher in the SNIP group than in the NNM group (p <.01). The ErbB1 and ErbB2 protein expression levels were significantly higher in the IPwSCC group than those in the NNM and SNIP groups (p <.01). The ErbB1 and ErbB2 mRNA and protein expression levels in the SNIP group were positively correlated with the SNIP dysplasia grade. Human papillomavirus (HPV) 16/18 genotyping is an effective method for triage of high-risk (hr) HPV-positive women in primary hrHPV screening for cervical cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate whether co-infected with other hrHPV types will affect the risk of cervical carcinogenesis in HPV16/18 positive women. A total of 313,704 women aged ≥30 years were screened in China. Among them, 4,933 HPV16/18-positive participants underwent colposcopy-directed biopsy. The HPV genotypes were identified using the Cobas HPV genotyping system. Multinomial logistic regression was used to model different HPV16/18 infection patterns. The overall prevalence rates of hrHPV and HPV16/18 were 7.85% (24,456/311,382) and 1.95% (6,086/311,382) respectively. Among HPV16/18 positive individuals, 33.24% (2,023/6,086) were co-infection with multiple types. Of the 4933 women who underwent colposcopy, their HPV16/18 infection patterns were as follows: 52.38% (2,584/4,933) HVP16 only, 23.54% (1,161/4,933) HPV16 + other hrHPVs, 14.98% (739/4,933) HPV18 only, 6.83% (337/4,933) HPV18 + other hrHPVs, 1.13% (56/4,933) HPV16 + 18, 1.13% (56/4,933) HPV16 + 18+other hrHPVs. After adjusting for cofactors, compared with single HPV16 infection, the risk of developing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade 3 or greater (CIN3+) was significantly lower in HPV16 + other hrHPVs group (odds ratio [OR] = 0.637, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.493-0.822). HPV16/18 co-infection with other hrHPVs is a common phenomenon. Different HPV16/18 infection patterns may influence the risk of cervical carcinogenesis. The gut microbiota, including pathogenic microorganisms and probiotics, has been involved in tumor initiation and progression by regulating the components of intestinal flora. Canmei formula (CMF), a traditional Chinese medicine, chronicled in the Chuang Yang Jing Yan Quan Shu, has been clinically used as an adjuvant therapy to treat patients with colorectal carcinoma (CRC) in China. In this study, we investigate the treatment effect of CMF in the azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) induced and high-fat diet augmented colitis-associated colorectal cancer in vivo , and explore its mechanism of action. We found that CMF treatment relieved the inflammation and alteration of the gut microbiota and significantly inhibited the development of intestinal adenoma. Linear discriminant analysis showed that the flora diversity in the normal mice, model mice and CMF treatment mice was different. At the family level, the relative abundance of Desulfovibrionaceae decreased in CMF groups. The relative abundance of Desulfovibrionaceae were lower in the CMF groups than in model group, whereas Rikenellaceae and Alistipes were increased. Altogether our results indicate that CMF treatment ameliorate colitis-associated colorectal carcinogenesis by modulating the composition of the gut microbiota in vivo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Source-specific risk apportionment for soil potentially toxic metals (PTMs) is of great significance for contamination prevention and risk management in urban environments. Eighty-five urban soil samples were obtained from an oasis-tourist city, China and examined for eight PTMs (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn). The pollution levels, sources, and ecological risk of soil PTMs were quantified, and their source-specific ecological and human health effects were also estimated using the multi-proxy approaches. The results demonstrated that accumulation of Cd, Hg, Pb, Cr, Cu, and Zn in soils was observed compared to their background levels, and the soils experienced varying degrees of PTMs pollution, especially at sites with high-intensity anthropogenic activities. Natural sources, atmospheric deposition, industrial sources, vehicular emissions, and comprehensive inputs were the principal sources, with contributions of 29.28%, 25.86%, 20.13%, 16.50%, and 8.23%, respectively. The integrated ecological risks of PTMs in soils were moderate at most sites, with atmospheric deposition being the dominant contributor to ecological risks. Children exhibited pronounced non-cancer risks, but adults had no notable non-cancer risks. Moreover, there were potential carcinogenic risks for both children and adults within the study region. Non-cancer and carcinogenic risks were more significant for children than adults, and traffic emissions were the primary contributor to non-cancer risks (adults: 20.53%, children: 20.49%) and carcinogenic risks (adults: 22.95%, children: 22.08%). The industrial and traffic activities were considered as priority control sources for soil pollution control and risk management, with Hg, Cd, Zn, and Pb corresponding to the priority elements. Exposure to heavy metals (HMs) present in the particulate matter from municipal solid waste during pretreatment and recycling processes may pose a serious health risk to workers. This was the first study on the exposure of municipal solid waste (MSW) recycling workers to toxic metals. The concentrations of HMs (Cd, Pb, As, Co, Cr, Ni, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) during personal exposure to PM 2.5 among municipal waste recycling facility workers in Kashan City, Iran, were investigated from January 15 to March 15, 2023. The research was performed in the three main stages of the waste recycling process: dismantling, sorting, and collecting. PM 2.5 samples were collected using a personal environmental monitor (PEM) attached to a sampling pump. The non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic health risk values and related uncertainty for waste recyclers from HMs inhalational exposure were calculated using USEPA methodology and Monte Carlo simulations. The results showed that the dismantlers exhibited the highest exposure concentrations of PM 2.5 (mean 2148 ± 1257 μg m -3 ), followed by sorters (mean 1864 ± 965 μg m -3 ), and collectors (mean 1782 ± 876 μg m -3 ). Health risk assessment indicated that 95th percentile contents of Ni, As, Co, and Zn were responsible for the non-carcinogenic risk (HQ) values exceeding the acceptable level of 1. The contents of As, Ni, and Cr in PM 2.5 caused a non-acceptable carcinogenic risk for waste recyclers due to inhalational exposure, as the carcinogenic risk (CR) values exceeded the acceptable threshold of 1 × 10 -6 . Monte Carlo simulation results revealed that the mean and median CR values from inhalational exposure to carcinogenic HMs exceeded the acceptable level of 1 × 10 -6 for municipal waste recyclers. Organic micropollutants (OMPs) in tap water may pose risks to human health. Previous studies on the potential health risks of OMPs in tap water may have underestimated the potential health risks of OMPs due to their limited coverage in target pollutants and incomplete toxicity data. In this study, tap water samples were collected in 37 sampling sites in Dalian, China. More than 1,200 target pollutants were screened by combining screening analysis and target analysis. A total of 93 OMPs were detected, with concentration summation ranging from 157 to 1.7 × 10 4 ng/L among different sampling sites. A total of 17 OMPs (12 agrochemicals, 3 pharmaceuticals and personal care products, and 2 other compounds) were detected in over 80% of the sampling sites. Especially, imidacloprid, tebuconazole, and atrazine-desethyl were found in all the sampling sites. Computational toxicology models were adopted to predict the missing toxicity threshold values of the identified chemicals. Noncarcinogenic risks were estimated to be negligible among all the sampling sites, while carcinogenic risks at six sites were above 10 -6 but below 10 -4 , indicating non-negligible risks. Griseofulvin contributed the most to the carcinogenic risk. This study offers valuable insights that can guide future initiatives to safeguard tap water safety.

The current investigation aims to explore the relationship between matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) gene polymorphism and ovarian cancer (OC) risk. Two hundred forty pathologically confirmed OC patients and 390 healthy controls participated in the present investigation. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism was applied to investigate the present polymorphism. At the same time, the meta-analysis was also performed to comprehensively explore the relationship. Three genotypes (5A/5A, 5A/6A, and 6A/6A) were observed for MMP-3 gene polymorphism. 6A/6A genotype and 6A allele displayed significant increase in OC patients (all P < .05). Meta-analysis found that no significant results (all P > .05). In conclusion, our results indicate that MMP-3 gene polymorphism contributes increased risk to OC for southern Chinese population. Background: The complex relationship between measured leukocyte telomere length (LTL), genetically predicted LTL (gTL), and carcinogenesis is exemplified by lung cancer. We previously reported associations between longer pre-diagnostic LTL, gTL, and increased lung cancer risk among European and East Asian populations. However, we had limited statistical power to examine the associations among never smokers by gender and histology., Methods: To investigate further, we conducted nested case-control analyses on an expanded sample of never smokers from the prospective Shanghai Women's Health Studies (798 cases and 792 controls) and Shanghai Men's Health Studies (161 cases and 162 controls). We broke the case-control matching and used multivariable unconditional logistic regression models to estimate the ORs and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of incident lung cancer and adenocarcinoma (LUAD), in relation to LTL measured using quantitative PCR and gTL determined using a polygenic score. In addition, we conducted Mendelian randomization (MR) using MR-PRESSO., Results: We found striking dose-response relationships between longer LTL and gTL, and increased lung cancer risk among never-smoking women (P trendLTL = 4×10-6; P trendgTL = 3×10-4). Similarly, among never-smoking men, longer measured LTL was associated with over triple the risk compared with those with the shortest (OR, 3.48; 95% CI, 1.85-6.57). The overall results were similar for LUAD among women and men. Assessing the health risks of sensitive population, such as children and teenagers, through multiple exposure routes (MERs) such as ingestion, inhalation, and dermal contact is critical for policy creation that protects or reduces exposure to pollutants for all populations. Heavy metal (HM) contents in food and environmental media in Beijing, capital of China, were collected. Furthermore, on the basis of considering the bioavailability of HMs, we evaluated the multiple environmental routes and health risks to HMs in children and teenagers of eight age groups (2-<3, 3-<4, 4-<5, 5-<6, 6-<9, 9-<12, 12-<15, and 15-<18) in Beijing, China by Monte Carlo simulation approach. The main findings are as follows: lead exposure in children aged 2-<3 years exceeds the exposure dose (0.3 μg·kg -1 ·d -1 ) of 0.5 point reduction in intelligence quotient. Moreover, children aged 2-<3 and 6-<9 years have relatively high non-carcinogenic risk (NCR) of 1.32 and 1.30, respectively. The carcinogenic risk (CR) for children aged 6-<9 and 9-<12 years is 2.73×10 -6 and 2.39×10 -6 , respectively. Specifically, the contributions of oral ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation to the NCR were 69.5%, 18.9%, and 11.6%, respectively. Moreover, the combined NCR contributions of copper, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic (As) were about 69.4%. The contributions of the above three routes to the CR were 93.4%, 4.1%, and 2.5%, in that order, with the largest CR contribution of As being about 92.0%. Objectives: Before 2003, most children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) abandoned treatment, with only approximately 30% treated in China. With the development of national insurance for underprivileged patients, we assessed the current frequency and causes of treatment abandonment among patients with ALL who were enrolled in the Chinese Children's Cancer Group ALL protocol between 2015 and 2016.Methods: Demographic, clinical and laboratory data on patients who abandoned treatment, as well as economic and sociocultural data of their families were collected and analysed. General health-related statistics were retrieved from publicly accessible databanks maintained by the Chinese government.Results: At a median follow-up of 119 weeks, 83 (3.1%, 95% CI 2.5% to 3.8%) of the 2641 patients abandoned treatment. Factors independently associated with abandonment included standard/high-risk ALL (OR 2.62, 95% CI 1.43 to 4.77), presence of minimal residual disease at the end of remission induction (OR 3.57, 95% CI 1.90 to 6.74) and low-income economic region (OR 3.7, 95% CI 1.89 to 7.05). According to the family members, economic constraints (50.6%, p=0.0001) were the main reason for treatment abandonment, followed by the belief of incurability, severe side effects and concern over late complications.Conclusions: The rate of ALL treatment abandonment has been greatly reduced in China. Esophageal cancer is one of the most common tumor in the world, and the morbidity rate is as high as 100/100 000 in some parts of China. Therefore, it is important and urgent to explore the pathogenesis of esophageal cancer and find new therapeutic targets for esophageal cancer. In this study, we found that a novel tumor suppressor SPINK5 is significantly reduced in the development of esophageal cancer, and is closely related to the pathological differentiation and lymph node metastasis of esophageal cancer via bioinformatics analysis and esophageal cancer tissue array. Further studies have found that SPINK5 is closely related to Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway by bioinformatics analysis and western blot. In esophageal cancer cells, SPINK5 overexpression can inhibit Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway. Combined with LiCl or MG‐132 treatment, SPINK5 can inhibit GSK3β phosphorylation and promote β‐catenin protein degradation, thus inhibit Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway. In vivo study, SPINK5 overexpression can significantly inhibit the growth of esophageal cancer cells. Our study shows that SPINK5 can inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of esophageal cancer cells by inhibiting Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway, and thus plays an important role in the development of esophageal cancer, and may serve as a treatment target of esophageal cancer. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is an important curative therapy for patients with leukemia. However, relapse remains the leading cause of death after transplantation. In recent years, substantial progress has been made by Chinese physicians in the field of establishment of novel transplant modality, patient selection, minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring, and immunological therapies, such as modified donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI) and chimeric antigen receptor T (CART) cells, as well as MRD-directed intervention for relapse. Most of these unique systems are distinct from those in the Western world. In this consensus, we reviewed the efficacy of post-HSCT relapse management practice from available Chinese studies on behalf of the HSCT workgroup of the Chinese Society of Hematology, Chinese Medical Association, and compared these studies withthe consensus or guidelines outside China. We summarized the consensus on routine practices of post-HSCT relapse management in China and focused on the recommendations of MRD monitoring, risk stratification directed strategies, and modified DLI system. This consensus will likely contribute to the standardization of post-HSCT relapse management in China and become an inspiration for further international cooperation to refine global practices. Importance: Gastric cancer is a significant and growing health problem in China. Studies have revealed significant differences in gastric microbiota between patients with gastric cancer and non-cancerous patients, suggesting that microbiota may play a role in tumorigenesis. In this meta-analysis, existing 16S rRNA microbial data were analyzed to find combinations consisting of five genera, which had good efficacy in distinguishing gastric cancer from non-cancerous patients in multiple types of samples. These results lend support to the use of microbial markers in detecting gastric cancer. Emissions from the iron and steel industry are a major source of air pollution. To investigate the composition characteristics, estimate the secondary transformation potential, and assess the ecological risk and human health risks of air pollutants from iron and steel industry, field measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and trace metals (TMs) were conducted simultaneously from 2020 to 2022 in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region, China. The average mixing concentration of VOCs (Σ 64 VOCs) was 58.2 ppbv. Alkanes, alkenes and aromatics were the major components. Benzene and ethylene were the most abundant VOC species. In the O 3 season, the calculated OH loss rates (L OH ) and ozone formation potential (OFP) were 10.87 S -1 and 181.74 ppbv, respectively, which increased 39.54% and 21.51% compared to the non-O 3 season. Furthermore, the O 3 -VOCs-NOx sensitivity indicated that O 3 formation was under the VOCs-limited regime. The average concentration of total 10 trace metals (Σ 10 TMs) was 226.8 ng m -3 , Zn, Pb and Mn were the top abundant TM species. The results also found that Se was extremely contaminated; Pb and Zn was heavily to extremely contaminated; Cu, As and Ni were moderately to heavily contaminated. For lifetime cancer risk, the cumulative carcinogenic risks were 1.84E-5 for children, 6.14E-5 for adults and 1.83E-5 for workers. The carcinogenic risks of individual chemicals cannot be ignored, especially for Cr, Ni, benzene and 1,3-butadiene. The hazard index values for workers and residents were 0.53 and 2.23, respectively, suggesting a high non-carcinogenic risks to the exposed population. These findings deepen the understanding of the pollutant character of the iron and steel industry, and provide theoretical support for policy development on O 3 pollution treatment and human health in the YRD region, China. The problems of environmental lead (Pb) pollution caused by mining activities have attracted global attention. Preschool children are vulnerable to exposure to Pb from the environment. To investigate the health risk of multiple exposures to Pb via oral ingestion (soil, water, rice, wheat, and vegetables) for preschool children in typical polluted areas, in this study, preschool children in Baiyin city were selected as the potential receptors, Pb concentrations in 28 soil samples and 33 vegetable samples were collected and measured. In addition, the Pb concentrations in local water, rice, and wheat were obtained by searching the literature. The Monte Carlo simulation was used in the uncertainty and sensitivity analysis of the parameters. Results showed that Pb concentrations in spinach, tomato, cushaw, lettuce, broad bean, pea, eggplant, and radish exceeded the standards (GB 2762-2017), and 42.86% of soil samples exceeded screening values (GB 15618-2018). The non-carcinogenic risk was as high as 3.58. Vegetables and wheat were the major contributors in the oral ingestion pathway. Furthermore, the carcinogenic risk of preschool children was 6.02E-06, which was acceptable. Monte Carlo simulations showed that health risk assessment results were most likely to be influenced by Pb concentrations in the media. In conclusion, the food safety of vegetables in soil-polluted areas deserves more attention, and certain measures should be taken to reduce the health risks to preschool children., (© 2023.
