This paper brings together some of the results of the first phase of the study Plataforma LMS LIDERESASCHILE.CL: Tecnología para promover el liderazgo de nuevas juventudes femeninas [LMS LIDERESASCHILE.CL platform: Technology to promote the leadership of new female youth], whose main objective is to create a platform that promotes leadership in girls and adolescent women in Chile. To understand the content that would be hosted on the platform, a series of surveys and interviews were developed for girls and young women in the Los Lagos region, to find out their views, and to research their needs for empowerment in relation to the following: participation; role models; roles and stereotypes; self-image and self-esteem; and interests. The results demonstrated the importance of valuing and validating female role models from early childhood and throughout all stages of their education; and of strengthening role models that play a key role in the social, cultural and political history of their lives. Previous findings show weakened empowerment of groups facing macroeconomical and political powers, so this study explores movement participants' perceptions of empowerment in the Chilean student movement, years 2011-2012. A qualitative method with 18 individual interviews and three focus groups was used in students of universities and schools (N = 31). Results show empowerment in most dimensions: critical consciousness, organization, actions/behavior and contextual citizens' support. However, the sense of control in the face of the political institution is week. Implications regarding strength, movements' continuity-erosion, theoretical aspects and public policies are discussed. The main findings of a study that investigated the psychosocial cultural factors affecting the interface between community organizations and public agencies are reported. Four types of organizations are analyzed in 2 different communities, using a qualitative methodology and a structural networks analysis. In both communities the paternalistic, client and semi-client interface type predominate. These types of relationships focus on the delivery of resources by the municipal institution as a way of addressing the immediate needs of the community. In turn, the community organizations center their efforts on short-term objectives and participation aimed at obtaining these resources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
