Abstract

The article reports a study "Shigella Flexneri Serotype 3 Infections Among Men Who Have Sex With Men--Chicago, Illinois, 2003-2004." Cases of shigellosis, a reportable disease in Illinois, were investigated by the Chicago Department of Public Health. The questionnaire asked about sexual orientation and sexual activities prior to the onset of the illness. Isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility. The CDC editorial note mentions the low inoculum required for shigellosis and the risk factors for sexual transmission of shigella.
