The article reports on a walkout by 20 nurses of St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia in response to the hiring of the hospital's third African American nurse. The move prompted hospital administrator, Sister Helen Clarke, to ask the help of sisters of the Order of St. Joseph to take care of the 130 patients. Clarke's response was supported by Bishop John J. Swint of Wheeling.
