Abstract

The article reports that a storage facility in Charleston, West Virginia operated by chemical company Freedom Industries Inc. that leaked 4-methylcyclohexane methanol (MCHM) into a local water supply in January 2014 was subject to little government oversight. It is noted that most chemicals stored in above-ground facilities are not regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
