New research from the University of Southern California (USC) explores the relationship between obesity and chemoresistance in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The study found that adipocyte maturation, or the process of fat cell development, increases the expression of certain enzymes responsible for metabolizing the chemotherapeutic drug daunorubicin (DNR). This suggests that obese ALL patients may be more likely to develop chemoresistance to DNR.
