The article discusses the importance of coastal zone mapping for oil spill emergency management in Canada. It explores the development of multiple models in geographic information systems (GIS), as well as remote sensing to render the required information for disaster mitigation and relief. It examines the use of an oil spill detection model through a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image data, as well as the application of spatial data and disaster models in the GIS platform.
