Abstract

The article presents a case study on the change in syphilis screening from the rapid plasma reagin (RPR) to treponemal enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and its impact on laboratory results and testing patterns in the Greater Toronto Area of Canada. Poisson regression was used to measure the risk factors for RPR and EIA screening results in alternate treponemal test. Moreover, EIA implementation confirmed positive feed-back loop on test and submissions of population converted to RPR.
