The study results also showed 19 percent of users are already using voice over IP to make phone calls. Some of the survey respondents spend an average of 13.5 hours a week online, two-thirds of which is spent searching for data. Most importantly, well after the United States, EU and Australia, we are finally tackling our legal loopholes. The University of Ottawa's e-commerce law professor Michael Geist notes that existing laws such as privacy legislation could handle many spam complaints -- if they are enforced. But we still need tougher penal provisions for offenders.

This article reports that a recent study shows that Canadians in the age group of 18 to 34 years spend more time online than they do with any other medium, including radio, television, and newspapers. It's the first time the Internet has eclipsed television in this key demographic since the firm Ipsos Reid began tracking these activities. Catherine Rogers, a senior researcher with Ipsos Reid, stated that any advertisers looking at this demographic should be re-evaluating their marketing strategies, if they haven't already. The study surveyed 2,000 Internet users who spend at least an hour a week online.
