The article reports that the International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) has been opening its Lotus tools to include a greater emphasis on open standards in Canada. Its new version of Lotus Sametime includes an instant messaging (IM) product, as well as IM access agreements with Yahoo! Messenger, American Online's AIM Clearinghouse and Google Talk. According to IBM general manager, Mike Rhodin, the company has been taking on Microsoft Corp. and other key competitors by addressing standards and interoperability. The company's commitment to Apple Corp. users include expanded Mac OS X support for Lotus Notes 7 and Domino Web Access and also including Apple's latest Intel-based Macs.
