In 2007, the Kern County, California Board of Supervisors awarded over one million dollars to local community organizations to provide prevention services aimed at reducing gang violence membership and violence within the city of Bakersfield, Ca. The programs offered a multitude of services including: mentorship programs, community rallies, after school programs, educational support and parent assistance. In order to evaluate these programs scholars at California State University-Bakersfield created a gang involvement risk assessment which was given to all youth in the program, and was used to evaluate the effectiveness in changing behaviors and attitudes towards gang membership.. This presentation will present the results of this evaluation, an overview of the assessment, and provide suggestions for future research on gang violence prevention. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
