Abstract

The article focuses on the identification of Xanthomonas vasicola in Tanzania, Kenya and Burundi. Xanthomonas vasicola formerly known as Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum (Xcm) which caused a disease on banana known as banana xanthomonas wilt is a strain of X. vasicola and was first reported in September 2006 in Teso, a district in West Kenya. In Tanzania, the disease was first identified in September 2005 in Kagera region whereas in Burundi it was first observed in October 2006.
