Abstract

This article presents a study which combined both morphological and molecular identification approaches to describe the new species of eagle ray Myliobatis from Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The southern eagle ray Myliobatis goodei Garman and the bullnose eagle ray Myliobatis freminvilii Le Sueur have long been recognized to occur in coastal Argentinean waters. Researchers discovered the new eagle ray species Myliobatis ridens sp. nov. from the Southwest Atlantic Ocean after combining both traditional taxonomy and DNA barcoding.
