Objective: To analyze the trend of mortality from intentional self-harm in adults in Brazil, from 2008 to 2018. Methods: This is an ecological, time-series study of deaths from suicide in adults in Brazil and its regions. The following variables were used: age group from 20 to 59 years, gender, education, Brazilian regions and ICD-10 code related to intentionally self-harm (X60-X84). Data were obtained from the Mortality Information System database, made available by the Ministry of Health, in November 2020. For trend analysis, the statistical program R version 3.4.3 was used and the polynomial regression model was used. Results: Of the 61,846 deaths by suicide, a growing and significant temporal trend (p<0.05) was observed in all regions of the country. The temporal evolution was also increasing in both sexes and among individuals with eight or more years of schooling. In cases of death by hanging/suffocation, they increased in all regions of the country. Conclusion: With the significant increase in suicide evidenced in the country, the importance of implementing suicide prevention actions is highlighted, taking into account the specificities of occurrences in each region of the country.
