• Chagas disease (CD) is endemic to the Northeast region of Brazil. • Notification of acute CD in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), is mandatory. • From 2001 to 2006, a total of 1303 cases of acute CD were reported to the SINAN. • From 2007 to 2021, a total of 141 cases of acute CD were reported to the SINAN. • During the analyzed period, all known routes of infection were reported in Northeast Brazil. Chagas disease (CD), caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi (T. cruzi), is a neglected disease endemic to some Latin American countries, including Brazil. Soon after infection, individuals develop an acute phase, which in most cases is asymptomatic and may go undetected. However, when CD is detected early, notification in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), is mandatory. This study aimed to evaluate the information registered in the SINAN database and to determine the epidemiological profile of acute CD in Northeast Brazil, an endemic region, from 2001 to 2021. According to this survey, 1,444 cases of acute CD were reported in the Northeastern region of Brazil during this period. During the first six years, referred to as period 1, 90.24% of the notifications were registered, while the number of notifications significantly decreased in the subsequent years, referred to as period 2. Most individuals diagnosed with acute CD were Afro-Brazilian adults. All known routes of infection by the parasite were reported. Vector-borne transmission was predominant during period 1 (73.29%) and oral transmission during period 2 (58.87%). All nine states in Northeast Brazil reported cases in both periods. A higher incidence of disease was reported in Rio Grande do Norte (RN) during period 1, and in Maranhão (MA) during period 2. Our results show that CD remains a significant public health challenge. The objective of this study was to analyze the temporal evolution of the number of human trafficking cases notified by the health system in Brazil, considering the characteristics of the population. This article carries out a descriptive study on reports of trafficking in persons in consultation with the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System. This is a profile of reported trafficking in persons in Brazil between 2009 and 2017. Incidence rates were calculated with adjustments to the population record for each year and presented on a scale of 1:1,000,000 inhabitants. We developed a Poisson regression model to evaluate the ratio of the incidence rate. According to available data, there were 1,011 victims reported in the health system during the study period. The predominant profile of the population exposed to such violence is female, aged between 20 and 29 years, with low education and brown skin. There was a trend growth of annual reports about 10 percentage points (p <.0001) and all regions had significantly higher incidence rates than the Southeast (p <.0001), mainly Midwest, North and South. This means that the regions with the highest incidence rates have international land borders. Given the predominance of women in young adulthood, it is inferred that the majority were trafficked for sexual exploitation. This research represents a pioneering approach to the use and modeling of human trafficking data available in the Brazilian public health system. There is a probable underreporting of cases of trafficking in persons who transit health services. As such, identification methods for hard-to-reach populations should be integrated into future research on human trafficking to increase the likelihood of capturing victims. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: to identify and discuss the occurrence of immediate transfusion reactions, considering the type of transfused blood component, demand and care capacity in a University Hospital in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Method: case, retrospective, quantitative study, performed through the collection of records and documents. Descriptive analysis of the frequencies and percentages of occurrences and typologies of Transfusion Reactions, as well as the demand and capacity of the hemotherapy unit of this hospital. Results: frequency of 6.43% of immediate Transfusion Reactions/1,000 transfused blood components. The Nonhemolytic Febrile Reaction and Allergic Reaction were the ones that most occurred. The highest number of Transfusion Reactions were grade I (97.5%); red blood cell concentrates (44.1%) and platelets (41.9%) were the blood components involved in most Transfusion Reactions. Conclusion: the unit studied showed capacity to meet the demand, with notification of transfusion reactions and highlighting such actions for continuous quality improvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that, in the year 2030, 27 million cancer cases, 17 million deaths, and 75 million people with cancer are expected. One in six deaths is related to the disease that has the greatest impact on workers. This study aimed to analyze the notification forms of cancer-related to work in a referral hospital in oncology of the Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. Methodology: a quantitative study that analyzed notification forms of work-related cancer (years 2015-2017) in an oncology hospital. Forty-one notification forms were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: 85.4% were male; 87.7% over 50 years old (39.0% between 51 and 70 years old and 48.8% over 70 years old); 51.2% of the white race; 83.0% freelancer; and 62.4% with rural occupation. The most notified cancer was of non-melanoma skin (56.1%) and the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, and stomach (21.9%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: In 2020, the WHO declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern due to the advancement of COVID-19 disease. As it is a new virus whose details are not yet very known, it is essential to observe both previous pandemic and epidemic scenarios together with the applied strategies, especially concerning monitoring the evolution of cases and escalation of contagions. Objectives: To understand the impact and importance of rapid and efficient notification through e-SUS Notifica and RNDS (National Health Data Network) to health professionals. Methods: Bibliographic searches in scientific and academic articles of intellectual relevance to the community about previous epidemiological data and events, current knowledge about the new virus, and state official information websites. Results: The control of the epidemic of the first SRAG-CoV (2003) was due to efforts and quick information measures. In turn, the 2009 influenza epidemic led Brazil to the creation of an essential system of epidemiological surveillance, which proves to be vital in the fight against the current pandemic advance. Conclusion: Epidemiological surveillance needs to rely on technology and, above all, on its speed. The integration of the information systems, e-SUS Notifica and the RNDS, tools of great importance for the production of this real perspective of the advance of the pandemic, enables the creation of political coping strategies and adds to science and medicine some crucial information at the moment. Objective: characterize reports related to phlebitis at a Rede Sentinela Hospital. Methodology: descriptive and quantitative study. Data was obtained from 285 reporting forms of phlebitis risk management of a Hospital in the city of Recife during the period from January 2012 to August 2013. Results: the most frequent occurrences of phlebitis were on the back of the hand (36.5 %), forearm (34.4 %) and arm (21.4 %). Most cases (63.2%) were classified as grade I, chemical cause (72.6 %), followed by mechanical causes (12.6 %). The highest number of notifications originated from emergency (35.8%). Conclusion: The most prevailing cases of phlebitis notified to Risk Management were on the back of the hand, classified as Grade I and from chemical causes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Chagas disease is endemic in the state of Piauí, Brazil. • The municipalities in the Caatinga region have the highest incidence rates. • Vector transmission remains active in the state. • Residents of rural communities are the most affected by Chagas disease. Chagas disease (ChD), caused by the hemoflagellate protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi , is an important morbidity that affects approximately six million people in the American continent. T. cruzi parasites are mainly transmitted to human by the infected feces of blood-sucking triatomine insects. The persistent disease is endemic in many regions of South America, mostly affecting residents of rural areas. The aim of this study was to evaluate epidemiological aspects of ChD in the state of Pi-auí located in northeastern Brazil. This is an analytical cross-sectional study carried out from the collection of data of the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN, in Portuguese, Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação) of suspected and confirmed cases of acute ChD in the state of Piauí, in the period 2010–2019. Associations between T. cruzi positivity and the study variables were determined by the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test and were raised as prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence interval. According to this survey, 517 suspected cases of acute ChD were reported in Piauí, with 70 cases (13.5%) confirmed. In 88.5% of confirmed cases, confirmation occurred by laboratory diagnosis. Most of the confirmed cases occurred in municipalities located in the semiarid region, with the municipality of São João do Piauí presenting the highest number of cases. Regarding sociodemographic data, females represent 55.7% of cases, people over 50 years of age (55.7%), being three cases in people up to 18 years of age, and less than 8 years of schooling (67.1%). 77.9% of confirmed cases had vector transmission as the probable form of infection. The data available in this study conclude that vectorial transmission of ChD in the state of Piauí remains active. This fact is corroborated by the number of notified and confirmed cases of acute ChD, requiring housing improvement programs and more effective epidemiological surveillance to control the transmission of the disease in the state. Nuclear medicine (NM) is a medical speciality that uses unsealed radioactive sources involving several handling procedures with some critical points before, during, and after the examination and therapies performed, requiring special attention to the occurrence of a possible accident or incident over the course of the clinical routine. The accidents and incidents in NM can involve actors such as workers, patients, the public or caregivers, and even the environment. Although expected, the number of occurrences and their nature are not well understood due to the absence of a Brazilian reporting tool for incidents or accidents. This paper aims to develop a web-based NM incident and accident notification system named SINMED (NM Notification System). Specific forms were developed in an offline system in html5 language with an online system interface according to the Google Forms platform.
