Purpose: to outline the clinical and laboratorial profile of patients with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery who presented positive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (Sars-CoV-2) in the preoperative period without symptoms presentation. Methods: Case series of 17 patients undergoing bariatric surgery who presented positive RT-PCR for Sars-CoV-2 in the preoperative period, with no reported symptoms. Data collected included demographic characteristics, length of hospital stay, waiting time for surgery, inflammatory markers, serum levels of micronutrients and dengue virus (DENV) serology. Results: In total, 219 patients underwent bariatric surgery in our institution during the study period. The incidence of asymptomatic cases was 7.7%. The sample comprised 88.2% of women, with mean age of 39.3 years and mean preoperative body mass index (BMI) of 37.7 kg/m2. Thirty five percent of the sample had previous diagnosis of diabetes and 29.4% had hypertension. The mean time elapsed between positive RT-PCR and the operation was 17 ± 7.5 days and the mean length of postoperative hospital stay was 1.9 ± 0.43 day. Mean lymphocytes count was 2,409.7/mm3 and the mean platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio was 126.3. Mean C-reactive protein value was 5.8 mg/dL, while ferritin marked 107.4 µg/L. DENV IgG was identified in all patients who tested for it. Mean levels of vitamin D and zinc were 25.6 ng/mL and 79.9 µg/dL, respectively. There were no postoperative complications reported. Conclusion: None of the included patients presented any of the laboratory markers related to disease severity. Introduction: Obesity is a chronic disease, defined by the World Health Organization, which is characterized by excess body fat, in an amount that harms health. It has a multifactorial origin, with social and environmental factors being the most at risk, due to unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity. Obesity affects quality of life and reduces life expectancy, being directly related to the development of noncommunicable chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Objective: To present available electronic tools and health technologies that address obesity associated with diabetes mellitus. Methodology: this narrative review was developed from information extracted from electronic bibliographic databases (Pubmed, ScienceDirect, Capes Periodicals and Lilacs) and from Vigitel, a surveillance system for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, carried out by telephone survey; use of the MySugr electronic application, which helps in the daily treatment of diabetes mellitus; and the presentation of data from DATASUS, on admissions during the COVID-19 pandemic period and the number of obese and diabetic individuals registered in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Results: the data adopted in this work were related to overweight individuals. Few articles found associate diabetes mellitus with obesity, especially in adults. And no current electronic newsletters were found correlating the two diseases. Conclusion: More investments are needed in health information systems, which include computerized tools and the management and processing bases of primary and secondary statistical data. Introduction: COVID-19 is a respiratory disease and its main symptoms are fever, dry cough and difficulty breathing. It spread to several countries, which led the World Health Organization to decree, on March 11, 2020, a pandemic state that deeply affected Brazil. Due to the impossibility of leaving the house, the routine of children with autism was changed. Children in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have a qualitative deficit in social interaction. Clinical and daily observations reinforce several scientific studies that defend the importance of maintaining a routine as stable as possible for people with ASD, without this stability they may become emotionally disorganized, feel discomfort or even irritability. Objectives: Investigate the impact caused by social distancing on the development of children and adolescents with autism. Methods: An online questionnaire based on the DIR/Floortime basic map of emotional functional capacity development was distributed in Brazil from April to May, 2020. The results were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: Results obtained from 122 questionnaires showed that after 30 days of quarantine 20% of children no longer had the characteristic of being able to remain calm and organized for at least 2 minutes; 11% no longer initiates interactions with their parents; 27% demonstrated more protests and anger than before the social distancing; 18% demonstrated more emotions such as anger, fear and intimacy, 28% began to understand their limits and 12% of the children are using greater facial expression during the social distancing. The current worldwide COVID19 pandemic has required the rapid and drastic adoption of social distancing and protective measures as the leading method for reducing the spread of the disease and death. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors associated with the adoption of such measures in a large sample of the Brazilian population. We relied on recreancy theory, which argues that confidence in the ability of social institutions and perceived vulnerability to the disease are central factors predicting the adoption of these behaviors. Our results, drawn from 7554 respondents, indicate that self-confidence in the ability to carry out these behaviors, confidence in the ability of social institutions such as the government, hospitals, health workers and the media to cope with the pandemic crisis, and risk perceptions are associated with the adoption of preventive behaviors. Our results expand the recreancy theory and show that beyond the main effects, the effect of perceived vulnerability depends on the values of self-confidence and confidence in social institutions.
