We believe that the expansion of viticulture in Brazil is important. However, it is necessary to contribute with proposals that include social advances in the communities where it is implemented. This article aims to raise questions about the social, political, legal and cultural perspectives arising from the introduction of this economic activity in Brazilian areas where it has never been located, with a focus on the Southeast of the country, especially in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Dealing with the specific case of the dispersion of the vine culture throughout Brazil does not detract from the idea that, in the lands of the New World, the imposition of foreign cultures on peoples is historical.
