The role of restorativeness in attracting and retaining people on commercial streets has been under-researched. To examine this topic, this convergent parallel mixed methods study was conducted on four commercial streets in Brazil. It included a quantitative evaluation of correlations between a set of microscale aspects of commercial streets and liveliness, and a qualitative thematic analysis of users' experiences informed by the Attention Restoration Theory. The results showed restorativeness as one pathway linking microscale aspects of commercial streets to liveliness. The perceived restorative potential of microscale aspects of commercial streets should be considered when adopting fine-grained approaches to enhance their liveliness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This paper constitutes the first academic study to be made of Google Discover as applied to online journalism. Design/methodology/approach: This paper constitutes the first academic study to be made of Google Discover as applied to online journalism. The study involved conducting 61 semi-structured interviews with experts that are representative of a range of different professional profiles within the fields of journalism and search engine positioning (SEO) in Brazil, Spain and Greece. Based on the data collected, the authors created five semantic categories and compared the experts' perceptions in order to detect common response patterns. Findings: This study results confirm the existence of different degrees of convergence and divergence in the opinions expressed in these three countries regarding the main dimensions of Google Discover, including specific strategies using the feed, its impact on web traffic, its impact on both quality and sensationalist content and on the degree of responsibility shown by the digital media in its use. The authors are also able to propose a set of best practices that journalists and digital media in-house web visibility teams should take into account to increase their probability of appearing in Google Discover. To this end, the authors consider strategies in the following areas of application: topics, different aspects of publication, elements of user experience, strategic analysis and diffusion and marketing. Clinical research outcomes depend on the correct definition of the research protocol, the data collection strategy, and the data management plan. Furthermore, researchers often need to work within challenging contexts, as is the case in tuberculosis services, where human and technological resources for research may be scarce. Electronic Data Capture Systems mitigate such risks and enable a reliable environment to conduct health research and promote result dissemination and data reusability. The proposed solution is based on needs pinpointed by researchers, considering the need for an accommodating solution to conduct research in low-resource environments. The REDbox framework was developed to facilitate data collection, management, sharing, and availability in tuberculosis research and improve the user experience through user-friendly, web-based tools. REDbox combines elements of the REDCap and KoBoToolbox electronic data capture systems and semantics to deliver new valuable tools that meet the needs of tuberculosis researchers in Brazil. The framework was implemented in five cross-institutional, nationwide projects to evaluate the users' perceptions of the system's usefulness and the information and user experience. Seventeen responses (representing 40% of active users) to an anonymous survey distributed to active users indicated that REDbox was perceived to be helpful for the particular audience of researchers and health professionals. The COVID-19 increased the importance of patient's continuous assessment of health outcomes. In 2021 WHO proposed some Digital Health guidelines arguing that health systems should consider the use of emergent technologies in health care services. This health environment is providing intelligent systems to guide patients in self-care. One example of that is the chatbot which is, a conversational agent that have been assuming an important role in how to improve health knowledge, reducing the incidence of diseases and avoiding new ones. Pregnant women are a profile where the self-care referred before is a critical issue. Prenatal services reveal to be an important part of the care process where most complications for that women happen. This article aims to comprehend how pregnant women interact with a conversational agent and how relevant this Digital Health tool is for primary health care services. The study presents the process and results of a systematic literature review about the user experience with of a chatbot in pregnant women self-care context; a summary of GISSA intelligent chatbot development including the use of technologies such as DialogFlow; and the process and results of GISSA usability evaluation in research field. The 5G network is developing rapidly. However, due to spectrum resource limitation, it is expected to use the 5G network to ensure high resource utilization and network efficiency, while keeping part of 4G in the same band for existing 4G users. Dynamic spectrum-sharing (DSS) technology enables 4G/5G wireless networks to coexist in scarce spectrum resources and dynamically allocates spectrum resources in the same band. 4G/5G DSS has been successfully commercialized in some countries such as Germany and Brazil. However, complex 4G/5G DSS networks will introduce intra-frequency interference in the inter-system, which will affect network performance. Therefore, we innovatively proposed two interference mitigation schemes: buffer setting and rate matching. Furthermore, we have verified the practical performance of both schemes in a commercial network for the first time to determine the feasibility of the schemes. From theory, simulation, and practical analysis, both schemes can effectively mitigate the interference of the inter-system introduced by DSS: increasing the network rate by 60% in the interference environment and improving the user experience in the DSS architecture. User eXperience (UX) has been used to achieve improvements in digital information systems based on how people perceive them. In particular, this paper establishes a framework that employs methods for eye and mouse tracking, keyboard input, self-assessment questionnaire and artificial intelligence algorithms to evaluate user experience and categorize users in terms of performance profiles. The results obtained with this framework are artifacts that can be used to support customizations of the User Interface (UI) on the websites. Moreover, the established framework is generic and flexible and can be applied to any information system, such as the case study shown in the website of the Federal Revenue of Brazil (RFB). The main objectives of this paper are as follows: (i) to set out a powerful UX framework based on three tracking techniques – the AIT2-UX; (ii) to provide the T2-UXT to collect, collate, process and visualize data obtained from users' interactions (iii) to use and compare machine learning algorithms with the classification of user performance profiles; (iv) to use the artifacts generated by the framework to manually customize the UI with the website. The Human-Computer Interaction community worked over the last years on scoping and defining User Experience (UX). As reported in the literature, UX's understanding changes according to the socio-cultural context and between professional positions, making a global consensus unattainable. Nevertheless, tracking and investigating the most accepted UX definitions and statements may be advantageous for visualizing multiple contexts' needs. Such an investigation is still scarce and even more significant in developing countries since there are structural differences from developed countries in the software development industry that directly impact user research practices. To fill in this gap, we replicated in Brazil a survey distributed before, mostly among professionals from developed countries. We compared 252 responses from academics and practitioners and identified differences and similarities among Brazilian and international communities. The definitions of UX chosen by the academic and industrial domains explain differences in UX design and evaluation. When comparing Brazilians' responses with previous studies, Brazilians give greater importance to qualitative measures and to different UX time spans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work aims to explore the perceived accessibility of adapted toilets according to the user's perspective, indicating the relevance of their attributes and features for persons with reduced mobility. There are recent studies addressing accessibility, but few focus on adapted toilets, making this study of adapted toilets in Brazil unique. A total of 98 disabled users with restricted mobility and carers took part in a survey after using adapted toilets. The study sample variance resulted in 27 attributes, distributed in eight factors: accessories, transit ability, access, hydro sanitary facilities, facilities, openings, safety, and ergonomic comfort. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied to identify attributes with impact on general satisfaction. The results identified three primary attributes in terms of design, execution and improvement of the user experience. Findings demonstrate a gap between the recommended standards and what the user perceives to be important, which has ramifications for the further development of standards and the design and construction of adapted toilets. BACKGROUND: Marketing clothes online can be challenging for those who buy and sell them. They are products that people still feel the need to have direct contact with. Some of their attributes are not easily communicated digitally, such as the fit and the feel of the fabric. Besides, the lack of standardization of sizes practiced by the Brazilian clothing industry raises several doubts to the user. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this paper is to present the results of an investigation concerning the user experience (UX) resulting from the interaction with female e-commerce websites. METHODS: The methods were organized into two stages: exploratory and descriptive. The former consisted of an exploratory interview (19 interviewees), an online questionnaire (205 respondents), and semi-structured interviews with 5 fashion specialists. In the latter, 60 users were divided into two groups of 30 participants to undertake a usability test on an e-commerce website (dafiti.com.br) to evaluate the UX when buying clothes. Group A used a desktop/laptop and Group B used a smartphone. The users were then debriefed and answered the AttrakDiff2™ questionnaire. RESULTS: Users lacked technical knowledge on clothing attributes and were extremely wary about the size and fit information provided (60% in Group A and 83% in Group B were not sure about fit and size information). Surprisingly, the AttrakDiff2™ showed no significant difference between the mobile or the desktop/laptop UX (Group A: M = 4.0 SD = 0.1; Group B: M = 4.1 SD = 0.2). CONCLUSIONS: The most significant problem faced by the users concerned the fit and sizing information, as these attributes are usually poorly communicated digitally. The population ageing, an effect of the accelerated demographic transition in Brazil, highlights the necessity of designing to fulfill the demands from this population segment, which, despite comprising the senior age range, stays active and maintains its autonomy in day-to-day activities. Thus, this study had the intent of discussing, from the perspective of ergonomics, the interface design standards in residential washing machine models available on the Brazilian market, in order to present a redesign proposal envisioning better experiences for elderly users. A wide range of portable and wearable electronic travel aids have been developed to enable visually impaired people to move around public spaces without a sighted guide. However, few of them have gone beyond the prototype stage and the long cane and guide dog are still the main mobility aids. Despite the importance of evaluation to determine, for instance, effective functioning and end-user satisfaction, a standard approach has not yet been developed for mobility aids. The paper reports the evaluation of a low-cost electronic long cane, developed by the authors and colleagues in Brazil. It used a two-part methodology involving an experimental investigation of performance of the electronic long cane and a questionnaire to explore user satisfaction. The results of the experiments and questionnaire demonstrated both the cane’s usefulness and the need for modifications to improve its functioning. This work is also important for the development of methodologies for effective evaluation, as this is the first evaluation of a mobility device developed and carried out in Brazil. In addition, it is one of only a small number of evaluations in real locations with real obstacles. Finally, a series of recommendations for evaluating mobility devices is presented. What this paper adds? A standard approach to evaluating electronic travel for visually impaired people has not yet been developed and the most appropriate approach may depend on the objectives of the evaluation. Existing approaches generally use participants with no previous experience of using the device being evaluated and is carried out indoors with artificial obstacles. The training or device familiarisation period usually provided might be insufficient for participants to obtain optimal device performance or an effective comparison to be made of different devices. The approach to evaluating an electronic long cane reported in this paper has three main advantages over previous methods. The participants were experienced users of the electronic long cane who had been using it to support their daily mobility for at least a month. The evaluation was carried out in two different real urban environments with real obstacles. This has the advantages of being close to real-life cane use and participants being able to make informed comments and suggestions for improvements as a result of their experience. A questionnaire included questions on user satisfaction with and evaluation of a number of different cane features based on their experiences of cane use over a period. The work is also significant as the first detailed mobility device evaluation carried out in Brazil and in the presentation of a series of recommendations divided into themes for effective evaluation of mobility devices. Background: People have insufficient knowledge and many misconceptions about the blood donation process, which hampers donors recruitment. Therefore, novel strategies and resources are needed to provide information and improve these circumstances., Objective: We aimed at an interactive conversational agent to explain about blood donation., Methods: We used the Dialogflow framework to develop a conversational agent and deployed it publicly. Afterward, we conducted an assessment of user experience (UX) with 50 participants who interacted with the agent. We analyzed participants' opinions, the different UX scales, and their association with participants' demographic variables., Results: The conversational agent is available on the Google Assistant platform in Brazil. It is capable of responding to utterances related to 30 common questions and concerns about donating blood. The user can interact and explore freely and in any order by typing, speaking and selecting interface elements. The agent responds by speaking and displaying visual information, some multimedia content, and suggestions for continuing the dialogue. It enables a conversational sequence in which knowledge is imparted to the user in stages as the dialogue evolves. The overall UX assessed was very satisfactory, and people with specific demographic characteristics were more likely to have better UX. All participants had positive opinions and attitudes towards the conversational agent., Conclusions: A conversational agent is a creative and captivating strategy of imparting knowledge and engage people regarding blood donation.
