The dentist's legal competence to prescribe medication is supported by Law No. 5081/1966 that regulates the exercise of this professional in Brazil. However, despite the regulations regarding prescriptions and the existence of competent professionals to carry out prescriptions, errors still occur in the prescription of medication. This study aimed to analyze the quality of dental prescriptions and the patients' understanding of the proposed pharmacological treatment. The prescriptions were analyzed for legibility and content. The percentage of prescriptions with legible writing ranged from 94 to 100%. The greatest difficulty for patients was to report the indication of precautions and adverse reactions to medications. It was concluded that the prescriptions issued by dentists, in general, have good legibility, however, they are not in conformity with the legislation. A large portion of patients did not know how to safely inform the data that guarantee the safe and effective use of the medication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Chronic low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common diseases in the world and one of the leading causes of years of life lost due to disability. Despite being a major public health concern, studies on access to and use of different types of treatment are scarce. The aim of this article is to describe the most common treatments for chronic LBP in Brazil, examine the factors associated with the use of these treatments, and discuss possible inequalities in the use of physical therapy/exercise and medications. A descriptive analysis was performed using data from the 2013 National Health Survey. Multiple logistic regression was conducted to determine the association between treatment use and demographic, socioeconomic, health status, access to health services, and geographical characteristics. People with higher education were 2.39 times more likely to do physiotherapy. However, no association was found between education level and medication use. People in social class A/B were almost twice as likely to do physical therapy. However, there was no association between social status and medication use. People with a very high or high degree of functional limitation were 3.5 times more likely to use medication. Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs in women of reproductive age. Much of the treatment involves hormone therapy that suppresses the proliferation of endometriosis lesions.Objective To compare discontinuation rates of pharmacological treatment with estrogen-progestins and progestins medications. The secondary objective is to evaluate the main side effects of these drugs in patients with endometriosis.Methods This retrospective study analyzed data from 330 patients who attended the Hospital of the State Public Servant of São Paulo from August 1999 to September 2020 and received pharmacological treatment for endometriosis. The data were obtained by review of the files of medical appointments with specialized staff.Results The median treatment time was 18 months, ranging from 1 to 168 months, and 177 patients interrupted the proposed treatment. The combined contraceptives with estrogens and progestins were significantly linked to treatment interruption, with a relative risk of 1,99 (p = 0,005). The most important side effects that resulted in treatment interruption were pain persistence (p = 0,043), weight gain (p = 0,017) and spotting (p < 0,001)., (© 2023. Psychopharmacological treatments have not only proven to be valuable but sometimes indispensable in the management of paraphilic sexual offenders. Despite not being approved by the FDA, some medications commonly used in paraphilic outpatients, such as Medroxyprogesterone and Leuprolide Acetate, cannot be considered an experimental or investigative medical procedure. Unfortunately, in Brazil, the use of hormonal medications for the treatment of dangerous sexual offenders has been seen as amoral and insufficiently effective and safe.
