To investigate the effects of aquatic exercise programs (AEP) in body structure and function, activity, and participation outcomes in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) with mild to moderate disability levels. Six databases were searched from inception until November 2022. Randomized clinical trials that used AEP alone, AEP combined and/or compared two types of AEP were included. The quality of evidence was assessed by the GRADE approach and the standardized mean differences (SMD) were calculated the meta-analysis. Twelve studies (n = 380) were included. AEP alone was superior to active control in improving body structure and function outcome: postural balance (low evidence, SMD = 0.47, p = 0.02). No statistically significant differences were found for the other body structure and function outcomes: lower limb muscle strength (p = 0.14) and depressive symptoms (p = 0.79), activity outcomes: mobility (p = 0.32) and participation outcomes: quality of life (p = 0.05). AEP combined showed no statistically significant difference for the outcomes of body structure and function: postural balance (p = 0.11) and activity: mobility (p = 0.21) when compared to active control. AEP showed positive effects on body structure and function outcome (postural balance) in individuals with PD with mild to moderate disability levels while, no significant improvements were noticed for activity and participation outcomes. Our findings indicate that aquatic exercise programs (AEP) lead to significant improvements on body structure and function (i.e., postural balance) in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). The AEP evaluated in this study implemented postural balance, gait, single and double training, as well as aerobic exercises, trunk mobility exercises, and Ai Chi. The average duration, frequency, and total time implemented were 50 minutes, three times a week, for seven weeks, respectively. Considering the potential benefits identified in this study, AEP can be recommended as an adjunct treatment strategy for individuals with PD. Stroke is the leading cause of death and disability in Brazil, and its prognostic indicators of social reintegration are not well established yet. To identify body structure/function impairments and activity limitations in post-stroke that predict social participation restrictions in the community. cohort studies were selected, involving adult post-stroke participants, which investigated body structure and function impairments or activity limitations of post-stroke individuals as predictors of social participation in the community. Studies that included individuals with subarachnoid hemorrhage, other neurological disorders and participants in long-term care facilities were excluded. The Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale was applied to assess the methodological quality. The results were synthesized according to the found exposures, considering the used statistical models. Eleven articles were included, with a total of 2,412 individuals, 58.4% men, 83.7% ischemic stroke. Seven exposures were assessed across studies, in which 10 studies assessed body structure and function exposures (stroke severity, cognitive, executive, emotional and motor function), and 8 studies assessed activity exposures (daily living activity and walking ability). There is some evidence that stroke severity, mental and motor deficits, limitations in activities of daily living and the ability to walk after a stroke can predict social participation in the community. Purpose: This study aimed to propose a link between Functional Independence Measure (FIM) levels and International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) qualifiers for use in low- or middle-income countries such as Brazil. Method: A multidisciplinary committee was formed to discuss the need for standardisation of the classification so that different professionals could accurately record the functioning and for the standardisation to be meaningful for the individual and his /her support group, allowing observation and participation in the rehabilitation process. The proposed steps to adapt linking ICF qualifiers with FIM scores and functional levels were: 1. Inversion, 2. Parity, 3.Transposition, and 4. Adaptation. Results: FIM's seven levels of functioning have been linked to the five ICF qualifiers. FIM levels "7 (independent)" and "6 (modified independence)" have been linked to qualifiers "0 (no problem)" and "1 (mild problem)", respectively. FIM levels "4" and "5" have been grouped and linked to ICF qualifier "2 (moderate)". FIM levels "3" and "2" have been related to qualifier "3 (severe)". FIM level "1" which indicates complete dependence has been linked to qualifier "4 (complete)". Conclusion: This methodology allows for the creation of a link between the FIM and ICF, preserving clinically important information and having a description and clear relationship. Background and Purpose: The present study aimed to assess the concurrent validity of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) core set to classify physical health of older adults in relation to self-rated health. Methods: This is a methodological study conducted in Santa Cruz, Rio Grande do Norte (RN) state, in Northeastern Brazil, with 101 community-dwelling older adults. The participants rated their health status, which was classified into 3 groups: very good, fair, and poor/very poor. An interview was then conducted using self-reported and objective measurements to classify physical health according to the ICF core set. It consists of 30 categories, 14 of which belong to the body function (b) component, 4 to body structures (s), 9 to activities and participation (d), and 3 related to environmental factors (e). To analyze the compromised and problematic categories in the ICF, an impairment index was created for each component. The relationship between self-rated health and the impairment indexes was assessed using the multinomial logistic regression test adjusted for age, sex, schooling, and perception of income sufficiency. Results: A greater likelihood of poor or very poor self-rated health was found in older individuals with the highest impairment index in (b) (odds ratio [OR] = 1.18; P <.001); (s) (OR = 1.11; P ≤.001); (d) capacity (OR = 1.09; P =.02); and (d) performance (OR = 1.08; p = 0.01). Conclusion: The results suggest that the ICF core set is a valid instrument to assess the physical health of older adults, since it is associated with self-rated health and shows potential for use in clinical practice and scientific research, with universal language regarding functionality and physical health in older adults. Numerous tests employed to predict cardiac and functional status are expensive and not widely accessible for a considerable number of patients, particularly those diagnosed with Chagas disease (CD) residing in remote and endemic regions. To date, there is no knowledge of studies that have validated instruments that address functionality in an expanded way, including the biopsychosocial factors in patients with CD. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0), in its 12-item shortened version (WHODAS-12) when applied to patients with CD. This is a cross-sectional study of a prospective cohort that follows individuals with CD (SaMi-Trop). Data collection took place between October 2019 and March 2020. In the interviews, sociodemographic information, life habits, clinical information, and indicators of disability measured by WHODAS-12 were collected. Descriptive analysis, internal consistency and construct validity of the instrument were performed. A total of 628 patients with CD were interviewed, most were women (69.5%), their mean age was of 57 years, and most declared an average self-perception of health (43.4%). The 12 items of WHODAS-12 were distributed into three factors, which together account for 61% of the variance. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) index was 0.90, indicating adequacy of the sample for factor analysis. The internal consistency of the global scale showed alpha = 0.87. The percentage of incapacity was 16.05%, indicating mild incapacity for the evaluated patients. WHODAS-12 is a valid and reliable measure to assess the disability of the Brazilian population with CD. Background: SATISPART-Stroke (SATIS-Stroke) is the most complete instrument for the assessment of activity and participation following a stroke. However, its use in a developing country has only been tested through in-person interviews., Objective: To determine the validity, reproducibility and viability of the SATIS-Stroke scale administered in two tele-assessment modalities: self-assessment of an electronic form versus videoconference., Methods: Methodological study with Brazilian chronic stroke survivors was conducted. Stage I comprised an in-person interview to apply the SATIS-Stroke and a self-assessment by completing an electronic form to respond to the SATIS-Stroke items. Step II occurred 6 to 8 months after Step I, during which SATIS-Stroke was administered again in-person and via videoconference. The order was randomized., Results: Ninety-five stroke survivors were recruited, but only 50 answered the electronic form (adherence: 52.6%). Mean scores were higher in the self-administration of electronic form compared to the in-person interview (mean difference = -0.36 ± 0.93; P  = 0.009). Adequate reliability was found in the comparison of the in-person and self-assessment of electronic form (ICC 2,1  = 0.66; 95%CI: 0.40-0.81). Fifty stroke survivors participated in Step II, during which adequate reliability was found in the comparison of the in-person administration and videoconference (ICC 2,1  = 0.55; 95%CI: 0.21-0.74) and a moderate correlation was found between the assessment methods ( r  = 0.43; P  = 0.02)., Discussion: Adequate validity and reliability were found in the tele-assessment. Thus, this method is appropriate and viable for use in developing countries. Purpose: To analyze the reliability and validity of the WHODAS 2.0 instrument for women with urinary incontinence (UI)., Methods: This is a methodological study with Brazilian women with complaints of urge, stress or mixed UI, over 18 years old, without cognitive disorders. The WHODAS 2.0 (36-item version) and the auxiliary instruments were applied through face-to-face and telephone interviews after 7-14 d. The psychometric properties evaluated were: Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for intra-rater test-retest, Spearman's correlation coefficient (rho) for construct validity of WHODAS 2.0 with auxiliary instruments; and ANOVA for discriminative validity with UI severity., Results: 101 women with UI with a mean age of 50.71 ± 10.39 were included. WHODAS 2.0 showed good reliability in all domains and excellent reliability in the total score (>0.80). The intra-evaluator test-retest showed ICC values between 0.59 and 0.87 ( p  < 0.001). We observed a positive correlation between the WHODAS 2.0 domains and the instruments recommended by International Continence Society (ICS), with greater emphasis on moderate correlation with the Urinary Impact Questionnaire (IUQ-7) subscale (rho = 0.730 p  < 0.001)., Conclusion: The WHODAS 2.0 instrument is a reliable and valid questionnaire for investigating the functioning and disability of women with UI.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) develops as a multifaceted and complex disorder, with clinical and functional repercussions. Objective: To investigate the association among contextual factors (personal and environmental) and clinical features and the disability of COPD patients, with emphasis on activity and social participation. Methods: A cross-sectional study with stable COPD participants (n = 47) was conducted to assess personal and clinical characteristics, activity of daily living using the London Chest Activity of Daily Living scale (LCADL), disability by the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS), and environmental factors by the Craig Hospital Inventory of Environmental Factors (CHIEF). Statistical analysis was performed by the multivariate method. Results: In the LCADL predictive analysis, the variables forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), dyspnea levels 3–4 by the modified Medical Research Council scale (mMRC), and active level of regular physical activity were included in the final model (adjusted R2 = 0.523). In addition, WHODAS was influenced by CHIEF physical structure score and mMRC 1–2 and mMRC 3–4 grades (adjusted R2 = 0.500). Conclusions: Disability is a complex in COPD patients and encompasses a prominent role of dyspnea levels in the prediction of activity and participation. Multivariate models presented clinical and contextual factors as functional predictors that included the physical structure of the environment in the determination of social participation. aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between intestinal constipation and functioning in adult women living in a municipality in the interior of northeast Brazil. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 195 adult women in the city of Santa Cruz-RN. Constipation was diagnosed using the Rome III criteria. Functioning was measured through WHODAS 2.0. Social conditions, habits and lifestyle were also investigated. Inferential analysis was performed using the chi-squared test and the Mann–Whitney U-test, and the effect size was determined by eta squared (η2). Multivariate analysis was performed using multiple linear regression to analyze the relationship between the WHODAS total score and constipation, being adjusted by covariates with p≤ 0.20 in the bivariate. A statistical significance level of p< 0.05 was considered. Results: Most of the participants in this study were aged 19 to 39 years (69.7%) and had an income of up to 1 minimum monthly salary (79.5%). WHODAS scores showed that women with constipation had more disability in the cognitive (p < 0.001), mobility (p < 0.002), self-care (p < 0.001), and participation (p < 0.001) domains, as well as the total score (p < 0.001). After multiple linear regression analysis, the total WHODAS score remained associated with constipation (p < 0.001), in which this condition increases the score by nine points. Conclusion: The results of this study show that there is a reduction in functioning associated with the presence of constipation in adult women, mainly affecting the cognition, mobility, self-care and participation domains, in addition to the total score. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the influence of environmental factors on the ICF activity–participation outcome, controlling for body function and personal factor dimensions of 75 diabetes patients. Method: Outcome measures included questionnaires on musculoskeletal pain (Nordic Questionnaire), physical and environment domains of World Health Organization Quality of Life version BRIEF (WHOQOL-brief) and clinical and personal data. Multiple linear regression with hierarchical entry of variables was used. Results: An assessment of WHOQOL-brief revealed a score of 66.6 (SD = 17.3) to physical domain and 58.8 (DP = 12.1) to environment domain. The factors associated with physical domain were lower limb pain, number of comorbidities, and environment barriers. The highest environmental barriers were financial constraints, availability of health services, deficiency of self-management, and inadequate family and social support. The final model explained 44.0% (F[12.02], p < 0.001) of variability of the physical domain. Conclusions: We confirmed the functional consequences of diabetes mellitus to be complex and multifactorial. Objective: Perform a systematic review to identify the categories of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health linked to the concepts measured by functional assessment tools validated for Brazilian Portuguese: Timed Up and Go test, Functional Independence Measure, Barthel Index, and Rivermead Mobility Index and Modified Rankin Scale. Methods: The Medline, Embase and CINAHL databases were consulted using a standardized search strategy. The studies were summarized using a pre-established set of specific criteria for the adequate linkage between the concepts identified in the assessment measures and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health categories. Two independent reviewers performed the selection of the studies, data extraction and evaluation of the results. Results: The search of the databanks led to the retrieval of 99 studies. However, only six articles were included in the present review. The linkage results of the studies included in the review were divergent, likely due to the taxonomic complexity of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, the difficulty in clearly relating the concepts of the assessment measures to the classifications and the fact that not all linkage rules were followed. "Activities and participation" was the most evaluated component, with mobility the most frequently covered category in the measures, followed by self-care. Among the measures analyzed, the Functional Independence Measure addresses a greater number of categories and therefore has the most concepts related to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, followed by the Barthel Index, Modified Rankin Scale, Rivermead Mobility Index and Timed Up and Go test. The Modified Rankin Scale was the assessment tool that most evaluated categories related to environmental factors. Conclusion: The Functional Independence Measure has more concepts related to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, since it addresses a greater number of categories. These findings can help guide health professionals in the selection of assessment tools for the evaluation of post-stroke functioning, making viable the use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health categories in clinical practice and public health services. This study standardized identification of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health categories in the main outcome measures used to assess post-stroke functional capacity. Functional Independence Measure has more concepts related to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health compared to other functional assessment instruments. Objective: To evaluate the disability and functioning of women with low-risk pregnancy in the second and third gestational trimesters.Methods: A longitudinal observational study was conducted from June 5, 2015, to April 30, 2016, in Family Health Units in the city of Santa Cruz, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, involving women who were in the second trimester of pregnancy where the pregnancy had been classified as low-risk. A form was designed specifically for the study to collect sociodemographic, urogynecological, and obstetric data. Functioning and disability were assessed using WHODAS 2.0, and descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were performed.Results: Higher levels of disability were observed in cognition in the second trimester (P=0.021), while mobility and life activities domains had higher scores (higher score meaning the woman was more adversely affected) in the third trimester (P=0.007 and P=0.029). Urinary incontinence in the second trimester affected functioning in participation (P=0.023). Pain affected life activities (P=0.023) in the second trimester and participation in the third trimester (P=0.044); and general functioning (P=0.050 and P=0.025), mobility (P=0.002 and P=0.001), and self-care (P=0.0446 and P=0.023) in the second and third trimesters, respectively.Conclusion: The findings showed that, even in a low-risk pregnancy, functioning can be affected in different domains. The identification of impairments to functioning could enable improvement in care. Longitudinal studies involving the first trimester and postpartum are necessary to gain insight into women's disability and functioning during the pregnancy-puerperal period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Functional autonomy and social inclusion are of key importance for stroke patient's rehabilitation. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate activity and participation of chronic stroke patients by means of basic (BADL), instrumental (IADL) and social (SADL) activities of daily living. METHODS: Forty individuals, 24 patients and 16 healthy individuals fill in a functional activities habits questionnaire. RESULTS: Regarding BADL, 25% of the patients did not get out of bed and 70.8% did not use toilet by themselves. Considering IADL, 29.2% of the patients did not dial the telephone, 70.8% did not wash dishes and clothes, 58.3% did not cook, 100% did not sew, 87.5% did not carry out repairs, 41.7% did not go to the bank, 54.2% did not shop and 45.8% did not write (all p < 0.05). Regarding SADL, 87.5% of the patients were not working professionally, 41.7% did not visit friends or relatives, 75% did not travel and go to the beach and 95.8% did not dance (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Chronic stroke patients have limitations in activity and restrictions to participation, even after few years of stroke onset, particularly regarding applying knowledge, use of communication devices, domestic life, major life areas and community, social and civic life. Objective: Evaluate, code and qualify the participation of Brazilian stroke survivors based on the international classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF) and identify predictors of post-stroke participation. Methods: An exploratory, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 78 individuals with hemiparesis stemming from a stroke. The stroke specific quality of life (SS-QOL) was used to evaluate the participation component of the ICF. The geriatric depression scale was used to screen depressive symptoms; the functional independence measure (FIM) was used to measure the degree of dependence; grip strength was determined using a dynamometer; and cognitive status was evaluated using the mini mental state examination. The one-way analysis of variance followed by the Bonferroni test was used for the comparison the participation scores of different groups (age and marital status). The independent t-test was used for the comparisons of the other groups (sex, time since the occurrence of stroke (<12 months or >12 months) and degree of functional independence). Multiple linear regression was employed to identify measures capable of predicting participation. Results: Based on the classification and qualifiers of the ICF, the individuals analyzed exhibited a moderate level of participation. Participation was significantly associated with time since the occurrence of stroke (F = 2.46; 95% confidence interval (CI) = −23.67–0.34; p = 0.05), degree of functional independence (F = 2.40; 95% CI = −33.0 to −18.93; p < 0.001) and marital status (married or widowed) (F = 2.6; p = 0.05). No statistically significant associations were found with regard to age, sex or affected side of the body. Functional independence was the main predictor of participation (F = 99.2; r2 = 0.57; p <0.001) and the occurrence of depressive symptoms was a moderate predictor (F =12.78; r2 = 0.40; p = 0.001). Conclusions: Twenty-four ICF categories were coded and qualified with the use of the SS-QOL, enabling the participation component of the ICF biopsychosocial model to be easily evaluated in clinical practice. Overall, the sample in the present study demonstrated a moderate decline in participation following a stroke and only the "social roles" domain was severely affected. The FIM was the main predictor of participation and the depression was a moderate predictor. Therefore, health professionals involved in the rehabilitation of these patients should focus on the promotion of functional independence and improvements in emotional health to optimize social participation following a stroke. The Brazilian stroke individuals analyzed exhibited a moderate level of participation. Functional independence was the main predictor of participation and the occurrence of depressive symptoms was a moderate predictor. Age, sex and affected side of the body were not predictors of participation. Our findings support that twenty-four International classification of functioning, disability and health categories were coded and qualified with the use of the stroke specific quality of life. Rehabilitation of social functioning post stroke patients should be focused on the promotion of functional independence and improvement in emotional health. Background: Data on disability are regularly collected by different institutions or ministries using specific tools for different purposes, for instance to estimate the prevalence of disability or eligibility of specific populations for social benefits. The interoperability of disability data collected in countries is essential for policy making and to monitor the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The first objective of this paper is to map and compare tools that collect data on disability for different purposes, more specifically the Brazilian National Health Survey and the Brazilian Functioning Index to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank Model Disability Survey (MDS), currently recommended as a standard tool for disability measurement. The second objective is to demonstrate the usefulness and value of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Linking Rules to map and compare population-based surveys and other content-related tools collecting data on disability, even when these have already been developed based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Methods: Disability information collected with the three different tools was mapped and compared using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Linking Rules. Results: Although the disability module in the Brazilian National Health Survey is fundamentally different from the MDS, the mapping disclosed that several modules of the Brazilian National Health Survey already cover many aspects necessary to estimate prevalence and understand disability as currently recommended by the WHO and the World Bank. The Brazilian Functioning Index and the MDS are both based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health and are very similar in the approach and content of their questions on functioning. Specific information on environmental factors is essential to identify needs and barriers, as well as to devise procedures to reduce injustice and inequalities. This information is still not targeted broadly enough in both the Brazilian National Health Survey and the Brazilian Functioning Index. Conclusions: Overall, this mapping exercise showed that applying the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health linking rules to population-based data coming from different sources provides researchers and stakeholders involved in decision-making with standardized and straightforward information about overlaps and gaps. Implications for Rehabilitation: Data on functioning and disability regularly collected with different purposes and by different institutions or ministries within a country can be compared using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health as a reference framework and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health linking rules. The recently published refinements of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Linking Rules go beyond the sole linking to International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health categories and provide standardized procedures to document the perspective of linked questions or the categorization of response options. They are therefore useful to compared tools that have been developed based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. The current disability module of the Brazilian Health Survey needs a revision to be suitable to collect data on disability that is Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities conform and guarantees interoperability with disability data from other sources in Brazil, especially from disability assessment for social benefits and implementation of policies. Human aging is considered a population phenomenon that is admittedly heterogeneous and multidimensional. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of the Ample Geriatric Assessment (AGA) as a subsidy for the nursing care process for elderly people in a Health Self- Management Box in the city of Fortaleza-CE. This is a documentary study, cross-sectional with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 70 follow-up charts for the elderly over 80 years. The data were collected through a semi-structured form, carried out from May to June 2015. It was verified that 50% of the participants presented more than 8 years of study. It was also verified that 57.1% are independent for activities of daily living (ADLs) and that 78.6% of the households are adequate to reduce the risk of falls. Among the existing clinical comorbidities, arterial hypertension is present in 22%, followed by Diabetes Mellitus, with 14.3%. It is considered in this study that functional loss is still a condition of attention to nursing care for the elderly population, as it can cause fractures, immobility syndrome, increased dependency, depression, social isolation, among other issues relating to the senility process, implying, therefore, the need to act in a continuous and dynamic form in health education strategies to this growing part of the population. Purpose:To assess the impact of post-stroke depression on the participation component of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Method:Thirty-five stroke survivors with chronic hemiparesis were divided into two groups: those with and without depression. The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) was used for the analysis of depressive symptoms. Participation was analysed using the Stroke Specific Quality of Life scale. The Mann–Whitney test was used to compare the participation scores between the two groups. Spearman’s correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the strength of the association between the assessment tools. Simple linear regression was used to determine the impact of depression on participation. An alpha risk of 0.05 was considered indicative of statistical significance. Results:The group with depression had low participation scores (p = 0.04). A statistically significant negative correlation of moderate magnitude was found between depression and participation (r =  −0.6;p  = 0.04). The linear regression model demonstrated that depression is a moderate predictor of participation (r2 = 0.51;p = 0.001). Conclusions:Depression is a moderate predictor of participation among stroke survivors, explaining 51% of the decline of this aspect. Thus, depression should be diagnosed, monitored and treated to ensure a better prognosis regarding social participation following a stroke.Implications for RehabilitationIndividuals with post-stroke depression experience a lower degree of social participation.Depression explains 51% of the decline in participation following a stroke.The present findings can serve as a basis to assist healthcare professionals involved in the rehabilitation of stroke survivors and can assist in the establishment of adequate treatment plans in stroke rehabilitation. Background: Stroke patients commonly have impairments associated with reduction in functionality. Among these impairments, the motor impairments are the most prevalent. The functional profile of these patients living in the community who are users of the primary health-care services in Brazil has not yet been established. Objective: To describe the functional profile of stroke patients who are users of the primary health-care services in Brazil, looking at one health-care unit in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Method: From medical records and home visits, data were collected regarding health status, assistance received following the stroke, personal and environmental contextual factors, function and disability, organized according to the conceptual framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Test and instruments commonly applied in the assessment of stroke patients were used. Results: Demographic data from all stroke patients who were users of the health-care unit (n=44, age: 69.23±13.12 years and 67±66.52 months since the stroke) participated of this study. Most subjects presented with disabilities, as changes in emotional function, muscle strength, and mobility, risks of falling during functional activities, negative self-perception of quality of life, and perception of the environment factors were perceived as obstacles. The majority of the patients used the health-care unit to renew drug prescriptions, and did not receive any information on stroke from health professionals, even though patients believed it was important for patients to receive information and to provide clarifications. Conclusion: Stroke patients who used primary health-care services in Brazil have chronic disabilities and health needs that require continuous health attention from rehabilitation professionals. All of these health needs should be considered by health professionals to provide better management as part of the integral care of stroke patients, as recommended by the clinical practice guidelines for stroke rehabilitation. Objective: This paper describes the development of the Protocol for Identification of Problems for Rehabilitation (PLPR), a tool to standardize collection of functional information based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Development of the protocol: The PLPR was developed for use during the initial contact with adult patients within a public network of rehabilitation services. Steps to develop the protocol included: survey of the ICF codes most used by clinical professionals; compilation of data from functional instruments; development and pilot testing of a preliminary version in the service settings; discussion with professionals and development of the final version. The final version includes: user identification; social and health information; brief functional description (BFD); summary of the BFD; and PLPR results. Further testing of the final version will be conducted. Conclusions: The protocol standardizes the first contact between the user and the rehabilitation service. Background: The Post-COVID-19 Functional Status (PCFS) scale was created to assess the functional status of patients after hospital discharge due to COVID-19., Objective: To perform cross-cultural adaptation of the PCFS Scale and Manual into Brazilian Portuguese and evaluate its measurement properties in patients post-COVID-19., Methods: For the cross-cultural adaptation, independent translations and back-translations were performed. This was followed by a pre-test, with analysis of the Content Validity Index (CVI), and preparation of the final version, after evaluating the measurement properties. Spearman's correlation between the PCFS and the WHO Disability Classification Scheme (WHODAS 2.0) was used for convergent validity. Weighted Kappa (wκ) was used for test-retest and interobserver reliability for PCFS scores and Kappa (κ) for PCFS items. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Only patients with post-discharge COVID-19 were evaluated through video-conferencing platforms., Results: The CVI was 0.75-0.83 for comprehension and 0.83-0.84 for the language of the self-administered questionnaire and the structured interview version. For measurement properties, 63 patients were evaluated, 68% male, 51.50 (12.60) years, 12.28 (7.62) days of hospitalization. For the convergent validity, a strong correlation was found (r = 0.73; p<0.01). The test-retest (wκ=0.54) and interobserver (wκ=0.43) reliability was moderate and the item-by-item analyzes ranged from fair to substantial (κ=0.25-0.66) and weak to substantial (κ=0.07-0.79). Background: The PM-Scale was developed specifically to assess participation in individuals after stroke based on the concepts contained in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. However, this measure is only available in English and French., Objective: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the PM-Scale to Brazilian Portuguese, followed by the validation and testing of reliability of the translated version., Methods: The translation process followed standard guidelines. Preliminary test-retest reliability was determined using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC 2,1 ). The Rasch model was employed to analyse the validity, unidimensionality, invariance, and internal consistency of the Brazilian version of the PM-Scale., Results: The final translated version of the PM-Scale presented appropriate semantic, idiomatic, cultural, and conceptual equivalence. The preliminary analysis revealed excellent intra-observer and inter-observer reliability (ICC 2, 1  = 0.91; 95%CI: 0.83, 0.95 and ICC 2, 1  = 0.81; 95%CI: 0.64, 0.89, respectively). The analysis of the Rasch model revealed only one erratic item. An excellent overall fit was found for items (mean ± SD = 0.01 ± 1.02) and adequate fit was found for persons (mean ± SD = 1.16 ± 0.88). Internal consistency was considered adequate (person separation index = 1.77, reliability = 0.76). BACKGROUND: Individuals with different impairments are working in the formal and/or informal market despite physical and attitudinal barriers. To date, few studies have addressed this situation from the perspective of the individuals. OBJECTIVE: Apprehend factors that restrict work performance in the perspective of workers with impairments and identify the strategies employed and the difficulties faced. PARTICIPANTS: Individuals with impairment who exercised paid activities. METHODS: Thirty semi-structured interviews and eleven observations of individuals in work activities. RESULTS: Limitations stemming from participants' disability and health status had an influence over their execution of tasks, but did not compromise work performance. Environmental factors that impacted as facilitators or barriers were: lack of preparation of colleagues, employers, education and rehabilitation systems; attitudes and coexistence; accessibility, implementation of land use policies, urban structures and transportation; products and technology; and distributive policies. Personal factors (upbringing, self-esteem, good mood, outgoingness, communicability, willpower, age and how the disability was acquired) also influenced participation at work. Important strategies included recognizing and sharing capabilities and needs, which minimized or eliminated difficulties at work. CONCLUSIONS: Workers with impairments developed effective strategies for dealing with adverse situations, which remained in the individual realm. Objectives: To integrate instruments to operationalize an ICF-based approach for cerebral palsy (CP); to assess differences in activity and participation among children with hemiplegia, diplegia and quadriplegia CP; to verify the facilitators or barriers to functioning; and to investigate the explanatory factors (cognitive and motor) for the type of school attended by children with CP (regular or special). Methods: Sixty children with CP were assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination and an ICF-based instrument and their parents were interviewed. Data were analysed by Chi-Squared, Anova's and Kruskal-Wallis tests and multivariate logistic regression. Results: Significant differences between CP sub-groups were found for chewing, urinary function, cognitive function and activities and participation. Twelve environmental factors were identified as barriers. Multivariate regression identified cognitive function as a significant explanatory variable for the type of school attended, whereas motor function was not significant. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the level of functionality of the institutionalized elderly in boarding Madre Baptist Peter Bertone and the Holy House of the city of Rio Grande / RS. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study, where we applied the Barthel instrument to assess the functionality of older research participants. RESULTS: The sample was composed predominantly by women and widows. Regarding independence, 37.5% of subjects had total independence and 62.5% had some type of addiction, which prevented them from being classified as fully independent simply because they fall below the 100 score on the questionnaire. It was found that the item had greater dependence for its realization was 50% stairs, bath followed with 31%. CONCLUSION: This study found that older research participants have a satisfactory level of functionality, even if not showing as fully independent in its entirety, but they had an average satisfaction in the questionnaire. Currently, half of the world population resides in cities. The percentage of world population that is elderly is expected to double from 11% to 22% by 2050 and will be concentrated in urban areas of developing countries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional status of elderly who live in the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Area, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was employed as the theoretical model. Probabilistic sampling was used to select 1,611 elderly persons (defined as >/=60 years) for the study. The response variable "functional performance" was developed by counting the number of basic and instrumental activities of daily living (ADL) that subjects found difficult to carry out. A zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) regression model was fitted to the data. The prevalence of disability was 47.1%. Neighborhood self-perception revealed that 84.0% of the elderly were satisfied with their neighborhood, although only 18.4% trusted people around them. Concerns about walking around the neighborhood were: fear of being robbed (78.0%) and fear of falling due to sidewalk defects (48.2%), which caused a 62% increase in the number of ADL carried out with difficulty. It is well known that there is a continuous tendency for functional results to improve as the frequency of walking increases. Thus, urban infrastructure interventions, such as improving public sidewalks, might influence the frequency of elderlies walking in their neighborhoods. Background: Each year, the number of breast cancer (BC) cases increases in Brazil and worldwide. In addition, BC affects women of working age who need to resume their jobs after treatments. This is an observational, cross-sectional study that investigated the association of physical symptoms and work tasks with upper limb disability and return to work in BC survivors., Methods: Sociodemographic, labor, clinical and surgical aspects, and physical incapacity of the upper limbs of 62 women diagnosed with BC were evaluated through a questionnaire of our own and the disability of the arm, shoulder, and hand (DASH) questionnaire. The data were analyzed by the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences SPSS version 20.0 and a significance of p < 0.05 was adopted. Logistic regression and odds ratio were used to verify the level of association between work tasks and pain with return to work, and multiple linear regression verified the association of physical symptoms with upper limb functionality., Results: The work tasks associated with non-return to work were raising objects above the head (OR 3.64, 95% CI 1.26-10.51), lifting objects of more than 5 kg (OR 2.88, 95% CI 1.02-8.13), and loading objects of more than 5 kg (OR 3.93; 95% CI 1.14-10.07). The pain in the upper quadrant homologous to the surgery explained 64% of the variance in physical incapacity of the upper limbs., Conclusions: There is an association of labor tasks that require upper limb strength and range of motion with non-return to work, and also pain in the upper quadrant homologous to the BC with reduction in the functionality of the upper limbs.
