Objective: to characterize the ostomized users treated in a Department of Orthoses and Prostheses in the region of Campos Gerais, Paraná, regarding socio-demographic, clinical and related to ostomy care. Methodology: Retrospective, descriptive and quantitative study, conducted between February and April 2019 by collecting data from 246 medical records. Results: Most of the sample was male (133; 54.07%), with a mean age of 62.44 years (min=04; max=97), married (138; 56, 10%), with one to four years of schooling (103; 41.87%), who lived with their spouse and children (72; 29.27%) and retired (106; 43.09%). There was a predominance of colostomies (164; 66.66%), permanent (59; 23.98%), whose main cause was cancer (155; 63.01%). Conclusion: The results support the management of the Enterostomal Therapist responsible for the users in search of improvements in care, knowing the needs and individual characteristics of each patient. Intestinal stomies are performed to divert intestinal transit to the outside of the body, self-care of the subject is fundamental to the process of physical and psychosocial well-being, since there is a change in the body image. Objective: to report the experience of the practice of the systematization of nursing care, based on the therapeutic demands of self care according to Orem's theory. Method: This is a descriptive study, a experience's report of the experience of the Residents of the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Continuing Care integrated into the area of attention to elderly health care in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS). Case report: Client, 58 years old, white, married, salesman profession, with medical diagnosis of septic shock of abdominal focus. Discussion: The multiprofessional team in this context inserts in the hospital context a new vision of care, it having as one of the functions to see the subject fragmented by medicine, and to break the Cartesian's model still existing in the professionals' imaginary. Final considerations: The knowledge of the multiprofessional team about the legislation that regulates the care of people with stomies is of extreme importance, since, this team must carry out its actions with efficiency and effectiveness in light of what the law recommends, in addition, it is also the socialization of information with patients and family members about the guarantee of rights. Problem statement To identify the causes attributed by people with stomas or by their caregivers to complications arising in the stoma and peristomal skin. Method A qualitative study performed in the period March-June 2018 on a group of 19 people with intestinal stomas. The data were collected through the process of structured interviews and were analysed by applying a content analysis technique. Results It was possible to perceive that the causes attributed to complications of the stoma and peristomal skin were alterations associated with or related to: the use of the ostomy appliance; personal conditions; knowledge about self-care; and the condition of the stoma or surgical technique. Conclusions People who live with a stoma can identify the possible causes for the complications to which they are predisposed. These are described by: the use of the ostomy appliance used; personal conditions; knowledge of the person on self-care of their stoma; condition of the stoma and peristomal skin; and the surgical technique employed. Objective: to know the diagnostic of nursing patients undergoing colostomy Methodology: it is a descriptive survey, quantitative approach conducted in July and August 2015, with 15 colostomy patients of a reference hospital on oncology in the state of Maranhao. Results: as for the diagnoses from NANDA, the most cited were disturbed pattern of sleep, low situational self-esteem, ineffective denial, dysfunctional gastrointestinal motility and ineffective pattern of sexuality. Yet they have identified basic human needs by Wanda Horta's theory. Objective: to describe the epidemiological profile of stomized people in a health region of Minas Gerais. Methodology: descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted from August to November 2014, the Care Health Service to the Stomized People level II of the municipality of the Divinópolis city. Data were collected by analyzing the records used for registration and monitoring of these people in the health service and submitted to descriptive analysis. Results: the study included 185 records of stomized people identified the predominance of men, married, older, low level of education and income less than two minimum salary; of the ostomy kind of colostomy result in from the colon and rectum cancer. Conclusion: this work made it possible to expand the knowledge about the ostomy population and may aid health professionals, especially nurses, to plan the assistance of the reference service. Objective: To verify the effect of the bag with irrigation valve on the pattern of (dis)comfort of the colostomy person., Method: Quasi-experimental study, with a single group, through pre and post-test, carried out from June to September/2020 with 33 colostomized patients from a municipal rehabilitation center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The pattern of (dis)comfort was analyzed using fuzzy logic, considering the attributes of bag cleaning, gas elimination and odor control., Results: When analyzing the difficulty presented in each attribute before (T0) and after intervention (T1), a reduction was observed in relation to "bag cleaning" for 17 (56.7%) participants, in "odor control", for 24 (80.0%) and "gas removal" for 16 (53.3%) participants. By crossing the three attributes at the two moments, 21 (69.9%) participants indicated a reduction in (dis)comfort at T1., Conclusion: There was a reduction in the pattern of discomfort with the use of the bag with irrigation valve compared to the traditional colostomy bag.

This study identifies the socio-demographic and clinical factors of patients with irreversible colostomy secondary to colorectal cancer and correlates them with quality of life (QOL). It is a cross-sectional study. Socio-demographic and clinical data were collected through interviews and the WHOQOL-bref to assess QOL. The sample comprised 60 patients. Most of the patients were male, elderly individuals, half were married and half did not have a sexual partner, with complete primary education, receiving up to two times the minimum wage, carried a stoma for three months on average, were instructed they would carry a stoma, but did not have their stoma marked prior to surgery. The average QOL score was 75.500, while the psychological, social and physical domains were the most affected. No statistically significant differences were found in QOL in relation to the following socio-demographic and clinical factors: female gender, low income, no sexual partners, and lack of instruction. Etiologic and physiopathologic aspects of volvulus of the sigmoid colon in Brazil are presented. It is believed that sigmoidal volvulus in Brazil is a frequent complication of megacolon caused by Chagas' disease, differing in some characteristics from volvulus found in other countries. A review of 230 cases treated between 1938 and 1974 in the Surgical Department of Hospital das Clinicas, University of Sao Paulo School of Medicine, is presented. The successive variations used to treat this disease occurred parallel to those introduced in the surgical treatment of uncomplicated megacolon. From the results, the following treatment is recommended: endoscopic emptying in cases without clinical, roentgenographic or endoscopic signs of intestinal ischemia. Laparotomy should be performed when a complicated volvulus is suspected or when it is not possible to empty the loop. When a simple volvulus is found, the loop should be untwisted and the gaseous contents siphoned off by menas of a rectal catheter. When there is necrosis of the colon, the Hartmann operation is recommended. It is important to submit patients to a definitive treatment of the megacolon soon after endoscopic emptying or surgical detorsion of the volvulus, since recurrences following these measures are frequent.
