The recent political and economic crisis in Venezuela has given rise to an increase in Venezuelan migrants and refugees to Brazil. Situated in the northern state of Roraima, bordering Venezuela, this research explores the military-humanitarian response coordinated by the Brazilian government. Investigating the underpinning logic of such a humanitarian approach highlights the ways in which vulnerable mobile groups are offered support, while at the same time, are tightly governed for the protection of state security. I argue that Brazil's military-humanitarian approach to mobility governance reflects a logic of debility that works to control migrants. This logic emerges through subtle forms of violence and consequently reinforces migrant vulnerabilities, keeping them in a cyclical loop of exclusion. This paper addresses the militarisation of the response across the urban streetscape of the city of Boa Vista, including humanitarian spaces of care, to investigate processes of securitisation and hygienisation. By doing so, this paper contributes to timely discussions on military-humanitarianism and draws attention to South-South mobilities and the salient geographies of Brazil and Latin America more broadly. Objective: to describe the clinical profile and outcomes of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 admitted to a private hospital in southern Brazil. Method: descriptive study, conducted with 110 patients with COVID-19 who required hospitalization between March and May 2020. Sociodemographic data, clinical profile, signs and symptoms, and clinical outcomes were collected. Descriptive analysis was adopted for data interpretation. Results: male predominated (64.5%). Prevalent comorbidity: Systemic Arterial Hypertension (45.5%). Signs and symptoms with greater prominence: cough (53.6%) and dyspnea (48.2%). Clinical outcomes evidenced: chest tomography with ground-glass opacities (98.2%), supplementation with oxygen therapy (86.4%), referral to the Hospitalization Unit (90.9%). Observed complications: cardiac arrhythmias (18.2%) and hypoxemia (18.2%). Predominant outcome was improved discharge (90%). Conclusion: the description of the clinical profile and outcome of patients with COVID-19 will provide the direction of care with care flows and protocols that guarantee quality of care and safety in clinical practice. The article presents a study on the impact of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on inspiratory muscle weakness in patients with Type 2 diabetes. It states that diabetics may present abnormalities in pulmonary functions associated with chronic hyperglymecia, that may induce reduction in lung volumes, and decreased inspiratory muscle strength. In the study, randomized controlled trial was conducted on 148 diabetics and their maximal inspiratory muscle pressure was evaluated and revealed that IMT increased the muscle pressure by 118% and inspiratory muscle endurance time by 495%.

To provide mutual understanding between different evaluation scales for pathological voice quality, comparative analyses between the GRBASI and the RASATI systems were conducted. A total of 100 voice samples were rated by experienced Brazilian and Japanese listeners. Analysis by factor analysis with varimax rotation identified significant interrelations between the scales, with asthenia, instability, and roughness as the common factors. Grade-of-hoarseness, only included in GRBASI, corresponds to a combination of roughness, breathiness, and instability. Harshness, included only in RASATI, can be predicted by breathiness with strain in the GRBASI scale. Roughness is found to be the most consistent factor and the easiest to identify by evaluators with different linguistic background. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To compare the levels of pain, grip strength, balance and gait in older adults with and without post-Chikungunya chronic arthralgia (PCCA)., Methods: Sixty-two older adults, 30 with and 32 without PCCA participated in the study. Pain level was assessed using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Gait during a 10-m walk was assessed using inertial sensors. Semi-static balance was assessed during an eyes-closed bipedal balance test on a force platform, and grip strength was assessed using a hand dynamometer., Results: Participants with PCCA presented severe levels of pain (VAS > 7.5), poorer balance, lower grip strength, walked slower, with lower cadence and stride length and higher stride time and stride length variability than participants without PCCA (P < 0.001 for all variables)., Conclusions: Older adults with PCCA had high levels of pain, impaired balance and gait and lower grip strength compared to older adults without PCCA., (© 2018 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Quarter horse (AQH) and is caused by a c.115G>A missense mutation in the peptidylprolyl isomerase B (PPIB) gene. Using a quantitative real-time PCR high resolution melting analysis genotyping assay for the PPIB mutation, the estimated HERDA allele and carrier frequencies in a sample of Brazilian AQHs were 2.9% and 5.8%, respectively. Acute Chagas disease (ACD) is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi. ACD outbreaks due to probable oral transmission occur regularly in small family gatherings that are exposed to contaminated foods. We studied two cohorts of residents on islands in the Breves and Bagre municipalities, in July and August 2007, to identify risk factors of transmission and to recommend preventative measures. Of the 25 cases identified in both cohorts, 13 (52%) were men, and the most frequent symptoms were fever (96%),asthenia (80%), myalgia (76%), abdominal pain (64%), retro-orbital pain, headaches and asthma (52%). We recommend detailed investigation of future outbreaks and other studies to better understand and control oral transmission of T. cruzi. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
