Remix is touted as one of the most important practices within the field of open educational resources (OER). But remixing is still not mainstream practice in education and the barriers and limitations to remix are not well known. In this article we discuss the design and development of a print and web-based booklet created to introduce the topic of OER to schoolteachers. The guide, the first of its kind available in Portuguese, was created through the remix and translation of existing resources available in English. Choosing design-as-remix raised a series of concerns related to licensing, attribution, context, and technical standards. In this article we review the concerns related to culture and inequity within the OER movement, followed by the design choices and procedures, and finally the implications of these issues for the open educational resources movement. Since June 2011, research on the Open University System of Brazil's (UAB's) official evaluation processes relating to learner support facilities has been carried out by the Teachers' Training, New Information, Communication and Technologies research group, which is linked to the Laboratory of New Technologies for Teaching at Fluminense Federal University, Brazil. This study has followed 70 learner support facility coordinators in the northern, north-eastern and southern regions of Brazil, who were struggling to define their professional profile, analyse the official evaluation systems and suggest optimisation procedures for them. The data was obtained, organised and consolidated, firstly, by means of interviews in which the professional trajectory of the learner support facilities and management profile were highlighted; secondly, through "crossed visits," in which elective regional pairs were established and a simulation of mutual evaluation was performed; and, finally, with the participation of two representatives from each region. The entire process was monitored via Moodle and what is presented here is a summary of these collaborative efforts whose goals were to (1) materialise information about the UAB's learner support facilities and (2) promote a wider debate on the official assessments between the facility coordinators and the participants of the UAB system as a whole.

This paper discusses the establishment of an international collaborative program focused on school improvement in Brazil and the United States. Two qualitative research studies were conducted on the development work conducted by faculty, students, and local K-12 school stakeholders. The design and implementation of collaborative student projects focused on multicultural education and the use of educational technologies. A model for international collaborative projects is presented that can serve as a framework for future projects following similar principles. (Contains 3 figures and 1 note.)

No other information and communication technology has swept the globe with greater speed than the Internet, having the potential to promote vast social, economic, and political transformations. As new technologies become available the pattern of adoption and diffusion creates disparities in access and ownership. At the most basic this gap is termed the digital divide and its most common antidote has been the computer. To close this divide, sizeable capital has been spent on deploying computer integration into public schools around the globe. This article uses the case of Brazil to analyze the role of computers in schools as tools to close the digital divide and promote pedagogical change. Massive computer integration will not be the cure for to the digital gap. As new technological tools continue to develop, new gaps will arise. An approach focusing on technology literacy is the only sustainable way to avoid present and future technological divides. (Contains 1 figure.)

Initiatives such as the Open Educational Resources (OER) World Map provide a systematic means towards recording activities, documents and individuals related to open education (OE). In this article - which is part of a larger effort to evaluate and extend this World Map - the entries on Brazil and South Africa were critically evaluated in terms of the existing scholarship on open education from these two countries. Clear trends were evident from the World Map and the usefulness of both the methodology and platform to inform gaps and challenges within and across countries in terms of open education, providing inputs that can aid in the design of strategies and international cooperation. Comme pour les autres virus respiratoires, des cas de transmission intra-hospitalière de SRAS-CoV-2 ont été signalés. Dans le contexte d'un taux d'incidence élevé du SRAS-CoV-2 dans la communauté, une augmentation significative du taux de transmission nosocomiale est attendue. Ce risque pourrait même être plus élevé dans les pays à faible revenu qui ont des systèmes de santé plus fragiles, ceci en raison de facteurs tels que le retard de diagnostic, le manque d'infrastructures, de personnel qualifié, d'unités d'isolement et de programmes de contrôle des infections. Une meilleure compréhension des chaînes de transmission du SRAS-CoV-2 et de l'impact des mesures de contrôle dans les unités de soins est essentielle pour maîtriser la pandémie. Cette étude a pour l'objectif principal d'estimer la prévalence et l'incidence des cas suspects ou confirmés d'infection par le SRAS-CoV-2 chez le personnel soignant et les patients dans les hôpitaux participants. Il s'agit d'une étude prospective internationale, observationnelle en milieu hospitalier. Il regroupera des patients et des professionnels de santé en France, au Brésil et dans les hôpitaux affiliés au réseau GABRIEL, un réseau d'institutions de recherche principalement situées dans les pays à faible revenu. Les données démographiques et cliniques sont collectées à l'aide de questionnaires conçus spécialement pour le projet. Un écouvillon nasopharyngé est prélevé et testé pour le SRAS-CoV-2 par RT-PCR. Une modélisation multivariée appropriée sera utilisée pour identifier les déterminants associés à la transmission nosocomiale. À la date du 12 juin 2020, 1478 patients COVID-19 confirmés et 740 professionnels de santé ont été inclus par les 13 centres Français et 368 patients et professionnels de santé ont été recrutés dans les centres internationaux. Les résultats de ce projet fourniront des résultats originaux qui pourraient : – constituer des preuves supplémentaires pour une meilleure compréhension de la durée de l'incubation et de la période contagieuse du SRAS-CoV-2 ; – renforcer les campagnes de prévention de la transmission nosocomiale du virus ; – ouvrir la voie à de nouvelles recommandations en termes de prévention ; – compléter les recommandations existantes grâce aux données supplémentaires concernant la transmission du virus, contribuant ainsi à améliorer les directives de contrôle pour des épidémies virales respiratoires similaires. La communication des résultats aux personnels soignants permettrait de les sensibiliser sur leur rôle dans la prévention de la propagation du virus dans les hôpitaux et dans leur environnement immédiat et pourrait être utilisée pour soutenir la couverture vaccinale si un vaccin devenait disponible.
