The objective of this investigation was to explore the neuropsychological characteristics of institutionalized healthy Cuban older adults. Quantitative research was developed, with a descriptive cross-sectional design through surveys, between March and April 2021. The instruments used were Trail Making Test, Verbal Fluency Test, Modified Wisconsin Letters Test, Boston Denomination Test, Cognitive Reserve Scale, Barthel Index, Lawton and Brody Scale, IDARE, and the Geriatric Depression Scale. The sampling was non-probabilistic and intentional. The sample consisted of 21 participants. The data were processed using SPSS / Windows-25, through descriptive statistics and correlational analysis. Deficits were found in attentional and executive control, verbal fluency, and in inhibitory control and mental flexibility. Moderate levels of anxiety and absence of clinical signs of depression were found. Most of the participants were functionally independent. Significant correlations were found between the variables: depression and inhibitory control; cognitive reserve and age; cognitive reserve and verbal fluency; inhibitory control, mental flexibility, and language skills; age, years of schooling, level of education and verbal fluency. The deficits found suggest that the changes presented by the participants no longer belong to the set of manifestations of normal aging. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
