Background: Bosnia and Herzegovina is among ten countries in the world with the highest mortality rate due to COVID-19. Lack of lockdown, open borders, high mortality rate, no vaccination plan, and strong domestic anti-vaccination movement present serious COVID-19 concerns in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In such circumstances, we set out to study 1) the willingness of general public to receive the vaccine, 2) factors that affect vaccine rejection, and 3) motivation for vaccine acceptance., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 10471 adults in Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess the acceptance or rejection of participants toward COVID-19 vaccination. Using a logistic regression model, we examined the associations of sociodemographic characteristics with vaccine rejection, reasons for vaccine hesitancy, preferred vaccine manufacturer, and information sources., Results: Surprisingly, only 25.7% of respondents indicated they would like to get a COVID-19 vaccine, while 74.3% of respondents were either hesitant or completely rejected vaccination. The vaccine acceptance increased with increasing age, education, and income level. Major motivation of pro-vaccination behavior was intention to achieve collective immunity (30.1%), while the leading incentive for vaccine refusal was deficiency of clinical data (30.2%). The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is shown to be eightfold more preferred vaccine compared to the other manufacturers. For the first time in Bosnia, vaccine acceptance among health care professionals has been reported, where only 39.4% of healthcare professionals expressed willingness to get vaccinated., Conclusion: With the high share of the population unwilling to vaccinate, governmental impotence in securing the vaccines supplies, combined with the lack of any lockdown measures suggests that Bosnia and Herzegovina is unlikely to put COVID-19 pandemic under control in near future., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

Directly Observed Therapy Short-course (DOTS) is composed of five distinct elements: political commitment, case detection through quality-assured bacteriology; drug supplies; surveillance and monitoring systems and use of highly efficacious regimens; and direct observation of treatment. DOTS produces cure rates of up to 95 percent even in the poorest countries and prevents the development of Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis. National TB Programme (NTP) has been started to introduce in 1994 according to DOTS principles in B&H with central and regional levels. At central levels there are national TB coordinators, and in all Cantons/Regions there are regional TB Coordinators. During intensive phase of therapy, patients are hospitalized. In the second phase of therapy, patients are treated in anti-tuberculosis dispensaries and some of them by a responsible member of the family (family supervision). There are several weaknesses in implementation of DOTS in B&H: TB case detection was not fully implemented in all medical services. Registration of TB cases in some facilities, there is no official central recommended registry, individual reporting for treatment outcomes and establishing a reliable monitoring and evaluation system. Application for 6 round of The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) had been finally approved and signed for B&H in October 2007. These grants would repair some implementation gaps and improve DOTS strategy in B&H.

The Aim: To evaluate treatment outcome data for all new pulmonary sputum smear positive cases and treatment outcome data for all new pulmonary culture positive cases. To evaluate re-treatment outcome data for all retreated pulmonary sputum smear positive Tb cases and re-treatment outcome data for all retreated pulmonary culture positive TB cases,in FB&H, in the period 1998-2003. Achieving WHO aims of 85% success on new found TB cases., Materials and Methods: Retrospective cohort analysis for new pulmonary smear positive cases, new pulmonary culture positive cases. Retrospective cohort analysis for retreated pulmonary smear-positive cases; retreated pulmonary culture positive cases, registered in FB&H in the period 1998-2003. A recording and reporting system used standardized registers according to WHO., Results: Results are presented in four tables and four graphs. Middle rate of success (cured or completed treatment) was 84%, middle value of failed (5%), defaulted (5%) and transferred (2%)., Conclusion: Results of success in newfound TB cases are achiived according to WHO aims (85-90,7%). Success NTP in control of TB is concern on ability to hold high rate of cured or completed treatment.

Appearance of an acute disease by Coxiella burnetii in humans in Bosnia and Herzegovina is very big epidemiological problem because incidence rate is among the highest incidence rates in Europe. Incidence rate of Q fever in Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina was very high during 1998. year 5.68% and the highest in 2000, with 115 diseases with acute clinical form of the disease and incidence rate of 6.95%. The incubation period varied from 9 to 28 days. Real incidence rate because of asymptomatic appearance of the disease is very much higher, at least 40-50 times higher. Chronic infection with Coxiella burnetii has been the most common developed as infectious endocarditis, which is the hardest complication. The researches of mode of transmission Q fever in humans showed that this disease spreads in epidemic and sporadic form in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the period 1998-2003 year, there were 373 cases of Q fever, among them 265 or 71,05% cases epidemic transmission, and 108 or 28,95% cases sporadic. The research of outbreaks of Q fever showed that appearance of Q fever is statistical significant with risk factors at 266 cases of disease. The mode of transmission in 107 cases was the most probably across inhalation of infected aerosols.

Unlabelled: Due to the specific war and post-war situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is possible to notice some differences in the number, type, advancement, biological course, treatment and its outcome. The actual situation which appeared in connection to depleted uranium has additionally raised questions about its influence on human health and about eventual increase in the number of malignant diseases in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In public, we often see that there are claims about enormous increase in the incidence of cancer. In order to achieve a realistic picture of actual condition and to avoid panic and ignorant attitude, correct and constant data of malignant tumors are necessary., The Aim of the Study: To collect and analyze data on population with malignant tumors in the region of Sarajevo city, which represents a symbol of difficult times in our country in the recent past., Material and Methods: We have collected and analysed data on, population with malignant tumors which included persons with permanent residence in Sarajevo Canton during 5-year period, from 01.01.1998, until 31.12.2002. Results were compared to regional and world indicators, and were observed in the light of specific local situation., Results: During period of 5 years (1998-2002) 7733 new cases of malignant tumors were registered in Sarajevo Canton; 3940 among men and 3809 among women. Mostly registered tumors were: lung cancer, amelanotic skin tumors, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical and uterine cancer, urinary bladder cancer, prostate cancer and cancer of larynx., Conclusions: Number of all malignant tumors in the region of Sarajevo Canton correlates to those in South European countries and the one estimated by GLOBCAN 2000. High number was registered in 1998, possibly due to normalization of the health services (diagnostics and treatment of malignant tumors), which didn't exist during the war and early post-war period. After 2000, there is a gradual increase in the number of people with malignant tumors. The most common tumors are lung and breast cancer. Significant differences to estimation and data registrated in other South European counties is high number of laryngeal cancer, urinary bladder cancer, bone and cartilage sarcoma, brain tumors and malignant lymphomas among both genders. Cervical cancer is extremely high up on the list, which correlates with data in developing countries. The incidence of smoking in Bosnia and Herzegovina is extremely high, almost complete, which can influence not only the appearance of lung cancer but also laryngeal and urinary bladder cancer. It is hard to say whether the war and post-war stress, irregular and insufficient nutrition during and after the siege of the city or some other factor have influenced their appearance among exposed population and differences in the observed incidence.
