The article focuses on a certain German drawing patterned after an English portrait that surfaced at Galerie Gerda Bassenge in Berlin, Germany, last November 2006. The portrait is branded Lot 5587, made in red chalk, signed by Johann Daniel Preissler, and depicted a Geistlichen or cleric. The portrait is considered to be rare as this is one of those drawn copies of prints that were made to record postures or compositions. Further, the portrait is said to be obviously taken from John Smith's print after Kneller of Henry Aldrich, Dean of Christ Church of Oxford and a collector of mezzotints and drinking songs.
