The article presents the author's views on Microsoft Corp.'s second annual TechVista conference held on January 12, 2006, at Bangalore, India. Microsoft Research India started the day by unveiling a prototype digital map of India, done in association with India's Department of Science and Technology. The main aim is to facilitate localization by giving people who speak any of India's 114 languages equal access to the site. The prototype includes four Indian languages and general information about India.

This article reports on the establishment of the Centre of Relevance & Excellence (CORE) specializing in textile technology and machinery in 2005 by the Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) Department of Textile Technology in Coimbatore, India together with the Technology Information, Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC). TIFAC is an autonomous body under the Indian Department of Science & Technology. KCT-TIFAC CORE is the 20th CORE in India and the only center dedicated to the textile sector in India. The three industrial partners of the CORE are Reach Technologies in Bangalore, India, Statex Engineering in Coimbatore, and Sangeeth Textiles, also in Coimbatore. KCT-TIFAC CORE has recently started a knowledge center with the objectives of providing information, literature/patent search, and product/technology information, manufacturer/supplier information, and conducting workshop on the latest technology/management principles. The KCT-TIFAC CORE organized a one-day workshop on patenting and design registration on February 4, 2005 attended by 22 delegates. In the workshop, lectures on basics of patents and designs, procedures, and forms and fees for obtaining patents and designs were delivered.
