The article reports on the study that examines the factors shaping the current debate regarding construction of a nuclear power station in the eastern of Mahileu, Belarus. The author analyzes the role played by a significant increase in the price of imported oil and gas from Russia and increasingly strained political relations between the two countries. It outlines the discussion within the country regarding energy and economic issues, the new power station, the new relationship with Russia, as well as offers a preliminary assessment of the feasibility of the nuclear power option.
