A recent study conducted by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences has discovered a potential treatment for Burkitt lymphoma, a type of B-cell malignancy. The researchers focused on targeting maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase (MELK) and developed a first-in-class MELK-targeting PROTAC called MGP-39. This PROTAC showed promising results in degrading MELK, inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells. Compared to traditional MELK inhibitors, MGP-39 demonstrated better anti-cancer activity and lower toxicity.
