A study conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in Beijing, China, has identified a common gene mutation, STK10, in patients with acquired pure red cell aplasia (PRCA). The mutation was found to reduce the expression of mRNA and protein in the bone marrow of affected patients. The research also revealed that the STK10 mutation affects the ribosome biosynthesis pathway, leading to abnormal erythropoiesis.
