The article discusses a study which prepared inorganic polymer coagulants for leachate pretreatment from a sanitary landfill in Beijing, China. The following coagulants were prepared: the brown liquid coagulant PFMAS, polyferric sulfate (PFS) and polyaluminum sulfate (PAS). PFMAS was found to be more effective in removing chemical oxygen demand from leachate than PFS and PAS. Flocs of PAS were found to be large and loose, while flocs of PFS were small and compact. Flocs of PFMAS were large, formed rapidly and settled easily. The study concluded that PFMAS was more effective in treating leachate than PFS and PAS and that PFMAS has better composition than PFS and PAS.
