A recent study conducted at Peking Union Medical College Hospital in China investigated the association between different HPV genotypes and ages with immediate histological cervical lesions in opportunistic screening patients. The study found that HPV16, 58, 52, 33, and 31/18 were the most common high-risk HPV types in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) of different severities. HPV16 was the dominant genotype in both CIN2 and CIN3, and the peak incidence of CIN3 was observed in women aged 25-34 years. The study suggests that women aged 25-44 years should be recommended for normative screening, and a vaccine targeting these predominant genotypes could be significant for cervical cancer prevention in China.
