Abstract

Abstract: The focus of the current study is the wind loads on a 11.92m section of parabolic trough collector with an aperture of 5.76m, located in Beijing, PR China. This paper presents selected results of full-scale field measurements of wind loads and wind pressure on the solar collector. The field data such as wind speed, wind direction and wind pressures are simultaneously measured from the solar collector. The measured data are analyzed to obtain the information on boundary layer wind characteristics, wind pressures and wind loads on the solar collector. The results presented in this paper are expected to be of considerable interest and of use to researchers and engineers involved in analysis and design of parabolic trough solar collectors. The article reports on the return of a New York engineer and his wife, named Mr. and Mrs. Henry Willcox, to New York from a Communist-sponsored Asian and Pacific Peace Conference in Peking, China. At the conference, delegates worked on a resolution calling for an end to the Korean fighting and accusation against the U.S. of using warfare in Korea. Immigration authorities from the U.S. State Department got the passports of the Willcoxes upon their arrival in New York announcing the possibility of legal action for any violation of passport restrictions.

8. Beijing Olympics technology testing enters final straight.

The article reports that final tests for the information technology (IT) infrastructure supporting the 2008 Olympic Games at Beijing, China will take place on 10 to 12 June, 2008. IT supplier Lenovo Inc. will conduct a technology rehearsal that will involve more than 300 engineers and thousands of personal computers (PC). Computers will be tested in an environment of 90% humidity, and IT staff will practise managing several potential problems, including missing equipment, slashed cables, security breaches and power outages.
