In 2023, through an ongoing respiratory pathogen surveillance system, we observed from mid-September onwards, an increase of respiratory illness among children aged ≤ 15 years presenting at hospital outpatient clinics in Beijing, China. Data indicated that illness was caused by multiple pathogens, predominantly Mycoplasma pneumoniae . Seasonality, periodicity and high prevalence of resistance to macrolide (30 of 30 strains sequenced with the A2063G mutation) were important characteristics of the M. pneumoniae epidemic, which resulted in a rise in consultations at specialised paediatric hospitals.

To investigate the molecular epidemiological characteristics and genetic variations of human adenovirus (HAdV) in acute respiratory tract infections in Beijing. Whole-genome sequencing and phylogenetic analyses were performed for 83 strains of HAdV with different types in Beijing from 2014 to 2019. The clinical characteristics of HAdV infection were analyzed statistically. HAdV-B was divided into four genotypes, including B3 (n = 11), B7 (n = 13), B14 (n = 4), and B55 (n = 2). HAdV-C was divided into three genotypes, including C1 (n = 14), C2 (n = 13), and C5 (n = 10). In HAdV-C, nine recombinant adenovirus strains were identified in type 1, and seven recombinant strains were found in type 2. In type 1, we found three newly emerged intraspecific recombinant strains (A47, A48, and A52) collected in 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively. In addition, the previously reported recombinant strains of HAdV-C1 showed more severe disease than other strains of HAdV-C, causing severe community-acquired pneumonia in both the elderly and children. Objectives: To evaluate SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody and T-cell responses in convalescents 5 months after infection wave in Beijing from December 2022 to January 2023 to prevent reinfection and severe disease., Methods: Convalescents and uninfected individuals vaccinated with different doses were enrolled to assess the IFNγ T-cell responses against SARS-CoV-2 prototype strain, BF.7, BQ.1, and XBB. Neutralizing antibodies against prototype strain, BF.7, BA.5, and XBB and immunoglobulin G antibody were further analyzed., Results: In convalescents, the IFNγ T-cell response was significantly higher than that of uninfected individuals (all P < 0.001), and the T-cell response against XBB had no significant difference from that of SARS-CoV-2 prototype strain and BF.7 and BQ.1 (all P > 0.05). The seropositive rates of IgG antibodies were 100% (303/303) with a median concentration of 90.52 (95% CI, 82.52-99.37). The neutralizing antibodies titers of convalescents against BF.7 and BA.5 were higher than that against the prototype strain (both P < 0.001), while XBB.1.5 was lower (P < 0.001). T-cell response, IgG and neutralizing antibodies had no significant difference in convalescents vaccinated with different doses (all P > 0.05)., Conclusions: The immunities may have some protective effect against possible future outbreaks and severe diseases of COVID-19., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest All authors declare no competing interests. Large-scale restrictions on anthropogenic activities in China in 2020 due to the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) indirectly led to improvements in air quality. Previous studies have paid little attention to the changes in nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) and ozone (O 3 ) concentrations at different levels of anthropogenic activity limitation and their interactions. In this study, machine learning models were used to simulate the concentrations of three pollutants during periods of different levels of lockdown, and compare them with observations during the same period. The results show that the difference between the simulated and observed values of NO 2 concentrations varies at different stages of the lockdown. Variation between simulated and observed O 3 and PM 2.5 concentrations were less distinct at different stages of lockdowns. During the most severe period of the lockdowns, NO 2 concentrations decreased significantly with a maximum decrease of 65.28 %, and O 3 concentrations increased with a maximum increase of 75.69 %. During the first two weeks of the lockdown, the titration reaction in the atmosphere was disrupted due to the rapid decrease in NO 2 concentrations, leading to the redistribution of Ox (NO 2  + O 3 ) in the atmosphere and eventually to the production of O 3 and secondary PM 2.5 . The effect of traffic restrictions on the reduction of NO 2 concentrations is significant. However, it is also important to consider the increase in O 3 due to the constant volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and the decrease in NOx (NO+NO 2 ). Traffic restrictions had a limited effect on improving PM 2.5 pollution, so other beneficial measures were needed to sustainably reduce particulate matter pollution. As more and more people are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), it is necessary to better understand their costs. Detailed information on medical service utilization and costs could aid in designing equitable, effective policies to support individuals with ASD and their families. In this retrospective analysis, individuals with a hospital encounter (outpatient visit or inpatient admission) were collected from Beijing Municipal Health Big Data and Policy Research Center (BMHBD), from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2021. We analyzed the costs, hospital visits/admissions and their changing trends over 5 years. Poisson regression and logit regression were conducted to analyze the influencing factors of visits, admissions and costs. The study population consisted of 26,826 users of medical services (26,583 outpatients and 243 inpatients; mean age: 4.82 ± 3.47 years for outpatients; 11.62 ± 6.74 years for inpatients). 99.1% were outpatients (mean ± standard deviation (SD) costs per year: $422.06 ± $11.89), while 0.9% were inpatients (mean ± SD costs per year: $4411.71 ± $925.81). More than 50% of outpatients received medication and diagnostic testing services. Among those with an inpatient admission, 91% received treatment services. Medication costs were the major contributor to medical costs for adults. Diagnostic test and treatment costs were the major contributors for children and adolescents. The findings demonstrated a significant economic burden for those diagnosed with ASD and highlighted opportunities for improving the care of this vulnerable group. Objectives: To identify the patterns of antibiotic use and irrational antibiotic prescriptions in primary healthcare institutions (PHIs) in Dongcheng District of Beijing, China., Materials and Methods: All primary healthcare institutions (7 community healthcare centres and 59 community healthcare stations in total) in Dongcheng District were included in the study. Prescription data from January 2015 to December 2018 was derived from the Beijing Prescription Reviewing System of Primary healthcare institutions and analysed retrospectively. The antibiotic prescription rate was calculated and cases of irrational antibiotic prescriptions were identified., Results: We extracted 11,166,905 prescriptions from the database. Only 189,962 prescriptions were included in the study, among which 9167 (4.8%) contained antibiotics. The antibiotic prescription rate fell from 5.2% in 2015 to 4.1% in 2018 while irrational antibiotic prescription rate increased from 10.4 to 11.8%. Acute Bronchitis was the most prevalent diagnosis (17.6%) for antibiotic prescriptions, followed by Unspecified Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (14.4%), Acute Tonsillitis (9.9%), and Urinary Tract Infection (6.4%). Around 10% of the prescriptions for the top 7 diagnoses identified were rated as irrational. Cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, and macrolides were the most prescribed antibiotics, which accounted for 89.3% of all antibiotic prescriptions. Of all the antibiotic prescriptions, 7531 were reviewed, among which 939 (12.5%) were rated as irrational because of antibiotic use. Among all the irrational prescriptions, prescriptions with inappropriate antibiotic use and dosage accounted for the majority (54.4%)., Conclusion: Although a relatively low level of antibiotic utilization was found in PHIs in Dongcheng District of Beijing, the utilization patterns differed considerably from developed countries and irrational prescriptions remained. Introduction: Prescribing of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) has become a prominent issue of public concern among elderly patients. However, no research has involved interventions on PIMs of Chinese elderly patients seeking care at primary healthcare. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a tailored educational intervention programme for general practitioners (GPs), aiming at reducing the occurrence of PIMs in elderly patients., Methods and Analysis: This is a parallel group, controlled, cluster-randomised trial, with blinded evaluation of outcomes and data analysis, and un-blinded intervention. Twenty primary community healthcare stations (CHSs) in Dongcheng district in Beijing will be randomised to intervention and control arm with an allocation ratio of 1:1. GPs in CHSs randomised to the intervention arm will receive a two-component intervention: general training of PIMs and distribution of PIMs handbook. GPs in the control arm will assess and manage patients according to the institutions' routine practice.
