Banda Aceh is one of many cities in Indonesia that has experienced an increase in the ownership of private vehicles. Private cars and motorcycles participate in both mandatory and non-mandatory activities. The increasing number of private vehicle owners can have an impact on the transportation system. Currently, Banda Aceh Local Government is operating Bus transit system: The Trans Koetaradja Bus which is expected to reduce congestion and the use of private vehicles in the city. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of individual motivation variables (latently) on mode choice (private vehicle or Trans Koetaradja bus), considering the types of transport-generating activities (mandatory and non-mandatory). The multivariate approach of Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) is used to explore and determine the contributing motivation factors on their selection of daily mode choice. The empirical findings from this study have explicitly investigated the relationship between motivation factors and their attributes/indicators. The first results of the measurement model show that mandatory trips have the highest significant correlation with the attribute of preference to the use of private vehicles, meanwhile, the non-mandatory trips have the most significant correlation to the increasing level of congestion within the city due to high dependency on private vehicle. The second model is the relationship amongst motivation variables. The results show that as for mandatory activities appear that linkage with private vehicles significantly affects private vehicle problems, while in non-mandatory trips the quality of service of the current bus system has significantly affected satisfaction on using public transport. As a consequence of rapid motorization, autos traffic such as motorcycles and passenger cars are mainly used as the main transport modes in the city centers. This created traffic congestion, which in turn, causing environmental problems such as air pollution and noise. To quantify the environmental effects due to motorized traffic, one needs to understand the characteristics and driving conditions of vehicles. This study aims to analyze the characteristics and driving conditions of the motorcycle and passenger car, as these types of vehicles are commonly used by people in Banda Aceh. This study was focused on the vehicle characteristics in Banda Aceh, and the driving conditions that were performed in the two busiest urban arterial roads in Banda Aceh. Furthermore, this study has consisted of two data set, namely questionnaire data for vehicle characteristics and GPS logger data for collecting driving condition data. The driving conditions such as vehicle-specific power (VSP) start-up and soak distribution was determined referring to the International Vehicle Emissions (IVE). Findings from the analysis reveal that the motorcycles with an engine capacity of fewer than 150 ccs are the most dominant (94.74%), while the passenger cars with an engine capacity less than 1500 cc are the predominant (70.83%). Regarding the driving conditions, the average VSP is -2.069 kW/ton and 3.564 kW/ton for motorcycle and passenger cars, respectively. The findings further depict that the longest duration of operating a vehicle from starting to turning off the vehicle engine (stop) is about 2 hours and 3 hours for motorcycle and passenger cars, respectively. This produces a cold start (soak time >12 hours) and results in more emissions since the engine must be reheated and at low-temperature conditions. Compared to other types of vehicles, motorcycle accidents are the most common in Indonesia. The increasing number of motorcycles on Indonesian roadways has the potential to increase the frequency of accidents across the country. Separating motorcycle lanes is one technique to increase the safety of motorcyclists. Motorcycle special lanes are lanes created due to government regulations to prevent conflicts between motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles and the number of motorcycle accidents. This research aims to look at the factors, dominant factors, and indicators of dominant factors in the implementation of a special motorcycle lane on Jl. T. Nyak Arief in Banda Aceh. Observation and questionnaires are used in this study to take a quantitative approach. The average daily traffic volume on a special motorcycle lane on Jalan T. Nyak Arief was observed for three days, namely Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at peak hours, namely morning (07.00-09.00), afternoon (12.30-02.00), and afternoon (12.30-02.00), with observations for three days, namely Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at peak hours, namely morning (07.00-09.00), morning (12.30-02.00), and afternoon (12.30-02.00). (17:00-19:00). Simple random sampling was used to distribute the questionnaires. A basic random sample strategy was used to collect data. A questionnaire was handed to a random sample of motorcyclists riding through the Kuta Alam and Syiah Kuala sub-districts in the Jl. T. Nyak Arief area. Indonesia, as a typical motorcycle-dependent city including Banda Aceh, has reported having high motorcycle traffic accidents with the consequence of fatality and being seriously injured. Previous works have noticed that driving risky behaviors have a positive correlation with several driving behaviors such as unsafe driving behaviors. Therefore, this study aiming at to investigate the determinant factor of unsafe driving behaviors using Driving Behavior Inventory (DBI) data. A DBI questionnaire survey was distributed among 300 motorcycle users with 280 (93%) of the responses valid and used in this study. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to investigate the contributing factors of motorcyclist's unsafe driving behavior. The empirical result using PCA proves that the factor of violations considerably has the most significant factor that affected the unsafe driving behavior as the variance explained factor about 22.033%. Furthermore, the factors of aggressive driving and anxious driving have significantly influenced unsafe driving behavior for the total explained variance 16.178% and 11.299%, respectively. It is concluded that the violations and aggressive driving are considered the most contributing factors for unsafe driving behavior in Banda Aceh city of Indonesia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The City of Banda Aceh continues to experience rapid development both in terms of economy, infrastructure, and transportation which has resulted in increased autos mobilities. This increased mobility has an impact on the increasing tendency to use motorcycles which harm the environment for instances traffic congestion, air pollution, noise, and accidents. The Government of Aceh has implemented a policy called Bus Trans Koetaradja with the concept of Bus Rapid Transit-Lite (BRT-lite), but due to inaccuracy and lack of exclusive lanes, it has caused people to be reluctant to shift from private mode to the urban Bus. Therefore, this aiming at investigates the determinants of shifting travel mode choice from motorcycle to BRT-lite based travel survey conducted in Banda Aceh using the contexts of Stated Preference. Due to pandemic Covid-19, the data was collected using online-based questionnaire survey using Google form. A total of 400 data is valid and used for the analysis of travel mode choice using Binary Logistic approach. The results of the binary logistic regression analysis reveal that determinants of selecting motorcycle as a representative daily mode used is the distance to make a trip, travel time within origin-destination, and vehicle operating costs.
