The diabetes mellitus is related to severe coronary artery atherosclerosis in addition to more adverse outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention. However, the percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic total occlusion is accompanied by many benefits. The objectives of this study is to identify the technical success rate, understand the factors impacting the successful procedure and analyze immediate outcome in type 2 diabetic CTO patients. This study is a case control, prospective study carried out in Iraqi Center for Heart Diseases-Medical city Complex in Baghdad city, Iraq. The duration of study was six months throughout the period from 1st of September, 2019 till 1st of March, 2020. A convenient sample of 120 chronic total occlusion patients was selected (60 diabetic patients and 60 non-diabetic patients). After confirmation of chronic total occlusion diagnosis, the researcher calculated the J-chronic total occlusion score and followed patients for duration of their post percutaneous coronary intervention hospital admission. The success of percutaneous coronary intervention was shown in two thirds (65.8%) of chronic total occlusion patients. No significant effect was observed of diabetes mellitus on success of percutaneous coronary intervention. The J-chronic total occlusion score difficulty was increased significantly in relation to diabetes mellitus. In conclusion, J CTO score is a good predictor of technical success in diabetic and non-diabetic CTO patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
