Student evaluation of teaching (SET) surveys are the most widely used tool for collecting higher education student feedback to inform academic quality improvement, promotion and recruitment processes. Malicious and abusive student comments in SET surveys have the potential to harm the wellbeing and career prospects of academics. Despite much literature highlighting abusive feedback in SET surveys, little research attention has been given to methods for screening student comments to identify and remove those that may cause harm to academics. This project applied innovative machine learning techniques, along with a dictionary of keywords to screen more than 100,000 student comments made via a university SET during 2021. The study concluded that these methods, when used in conjunction with a final stage of human checking, are an effective and practicable means of screening student comments. Higher education institutions have an obligation to balance the rights of students to provide feedback on their learning experience with a duty to protect academics from harm by pre-screening student comments before releasing SET results to academics.

Introduction: Stigmatizing attitudes perpetuated by nursing professionals are a pervasive problem for people experiencing mental health issues. This global issue has detrimental consequences; inhibiting one's life chances and help‐seeking behaviours. To date, few studies have compared nursing students' attitudes towards mental illness from a multi‐national perspective. Aim: To compare undergraduate nursing students' attitudes towards mental illness across six countries: Australia, India, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan and USA. Method: In a cross‐sectional design, data were collected from undergraduate nursing students (N = 426) using the Social Distance Scale. A one‐way analysis of variance was used to compare differences between countries. Results: Nursing students' attitudes to mental illness differed between countries. Social Distance Scores were highest amongst nursing students from Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Students from Taiwan and India possessed moderate stigma scores. Social Distance Scores from the USA and Australia were lowest. Discussion: Clear differences in stigmatizing attitudes emerged between countries; these are discussed in relation to possible cultural influences. Implications for Practice: It is suggested that educating nurses, combined with direct contact with people with lived experiences of mental illness, can reduce stigmatizing attitudes regardless of country, location or educational institution. In contrast to global observations in stable continental crust, the present-day orientation of the maximum horizontal stress in Western Australia is at a high angle to plate motion, suggesting that in addition to large-scale plate driving forces, local factors also play an important role in stress repartitioning. As a reliable stress indicator, full waveform moment tensor solutions are calculated for earthquakes that occurred between 2010 and 2018 in the southern Yilgarn Craton and the adjacent Albany-Fraser Orogen in southwestern Australia. Due to regional velocity heterogeneities in the crust, we produced two geographically distinct shear wave velocity models by combining published crustal velocity models with new ambient noise tomography results. We applied a full waveform inversion technique to 15 local earthquakes and obtained 10 robust results. Three of these events occurred near Lake Muir in the extreme south of the study area within the Albany-Fraser Orogen. The focal mechanism of the 16th September 2018 Lake Muir event is thrust; two M L≥ 4.0 aftershocks are normal and strike-slip. Our results are consistent with field observations, fault orientations inferred from aeromagnetic data and surface displacements mapped by Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar which are all consistent with reactivation of existing faults. The other seven solutions are in the southeastern Yilgarn Craton. These solutions show that the faulting mechanisms are predominantly thrust and strike-slip. This kinematic framework is consistent with previous studies that linked active seismicity in the Yilgarn Craton to the reactivation of the NNW–SSE oriented Neoarchean structures by an approximately E–W oriented regional stress field. Our results suggest that the kind of faulting that occurs in southwest Australia is critically dependent on the local geological structure. Background: Low physical activity levels in people with stroke may contribute to higher risk of cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality. Differences in economic status, culture and the built environment may influence the applicability of interventions developed in high income countries (HIC) for stroke survivors in low to middle‐income countries (LMIC). Purpose: To compare physical activity levels of stroke survivors in HIC and LMIC and to explore the influence of lower limb impairment on physical activity levels. Methods and Materials: An exploratory secondary analysis of observational data on physical activity levels of stroke survivors from Australia (HIC) and India (LMIC). Physical activity variables (step count, light physical activity (LPA) and moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA)) were measured by accelerometery. Comparisons of physical activity levels between (a) Australian and Indian stroke survivors and (b) participants with and without lower limb impairments were performed using independent t‐tests or Mann‐Whitney U tests. Results: There were no significant differences in physical activity levels between (i) Australian and Indian stroke survivors (step count mean difference 201 steps [−1375 to 974], LPA mean difference −24 min [−22 to 69], MVPA mean difference 2 min [−8 to 3]), and (ii) stroke survivors with and without lower limb impairments in either country. Conclusion: Stroke survivors were highly inactive in both countries. Despite differences in economic status, cultural influences and the built environment, the physical activity of stroke survivors in Australia and India did not differ. The energy storage requirement modelling tool outlined here uses an extension of the pinch methodology to quantify the network flexibility required due to greater variable renewable energy (VRE) integration. Quantifying this as the magnitude of energy storage required as a function of storage duration provides improved understanding of the fundamental balancing problem. Identification of the impact that key decision variables, such as location, VRE penetration and VRE that is supplied through wind have on these requirements has been enabled by condensing this dependence within two non-dimensional indices: the storage magnitude index and the storage duration index. These indices, in addition to the size of storage required, have enabled the tipping-points and VRE penetration levels beyond which short-term storage is not sufficient to be identified for the UK and Australian locations considered. In addition to how effective the provision of excess VRE is in the mitigation of the balancing requirements. This analysis shows that seasonal balancing is required at high levels of VRE penetration for all combinations of wind and solar sources, but can be needed with as low as 50% penetration at certain combinations and locations. In 2005, the National Library of Australia (NLA) began a pilot project to selectively digitize back issues of major Australian newspapers to provide free public access to over 60 million digitized newspaper articles, dating from the first years of Australian colonization to the early 1960s. Trove, a faceted search engine maintained by NLA, provides access to this very large collection. Unfortunately, Trove lacked any means to filter by location, which raised the tantalizing possibility of using advanced computational techniques to identify long-term patterns and trends in newspaper reportage of people, events, concepts, and many other historical entities. PaperMiner, which utilizes text mining techniques for extracting metadata information, was developed that enabled the inclusion of geolocations of the places cited in the newspaper articles and supported the searching of articles by location and visualizing the results of searches using both location and time using a map of Australia. Using PaperMiner, researchers could see when and where the anti-Chinese leagues movement started in Australia and how it spread, to better focus their subsequent research. PaperMiner can be used as a digital humanities tool to assist in research by replacing the tedium of a shallow scan through thousands of Trove search results with a more efficient method that draws the researchers' attention to more significant times and places where their time can be better spent in deeper analysis. Research being an investigative process is employed to increase or revise the current knowledge. Scientific research involves the conduct of a methodical study to prove a hypothesis or give an answer to a specific question with the main aim of finding definitive answer. This paper aims to advance knowledge of research and develop interest in the postgraduate students. It also throws light on the existing and emerging research strengths within a "high-performance culture." The trends in dental research worldwide are looked at, in particular, a comparison between the publication status in two countries, namely India and Australia. The current themes in dental research are also discussed to facilitate future projects for the aspiring pediatric dentists. Stress is given to the importance of evidence-based dentistry as the current times call for high-quality and ethical papers which are devoid of plagiarism. The common reasons for failure of a research are explored and the strengthening factors are highlighted. BACKGROUND: The recent development of very high resistance to phosphine in rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens), seriously threatens stored-grain biosecurity. The aim was to characterise this resistance, to develop a rapid bioassay for its diagnosis to support pest management and to document the distribution of resistance in Australia in 2007-2011. RESULTS: Bioassays of purified laboratory reference strains and field-collected samples revealed three phenotypes: susceptible, weakly resistant and strongly resistant. With resistance factors of > 1000 × , resistance to phosphine expressed by the strong resistance phenotype was higher than reported for any stored-product insect species. The new time-to-knockdown assay rapidly and accurately diagnosed each resistance phenotype within 6 h. Although less frequent in western Australia, weak resistance was detected throughout all grain production regions. Strong resistance occurred predominantly in central storages in eastern Australia. CONCLUSION: Resistance to phosphine in the rusty grain beetle is expressed through two identifiable phenotypes: weak and strong. Strong resistance requires urgent changes to current fumigation dosages. The development of a rapid assay for diagnosis of resistance enables the provision of same-day advice to expedite resistance management decisions. © 2012 Commonwealth of Australia. Atrial Pacing in Heart Failure. Introduction: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) efficacy trials to date used atrial-synchronous biventricular pacing wherein there is no or minimal atrial pacing. However, bradycardia and chronotropic incompetence are common in this patient population. This trial was designed to evaluate the effect of atrial support pacing among heart failure patients receiving a CRT defibrillator. Methods and Results: PEGASUS CRT was a multicenter, 3-arm, randomized study. At 6 weeks, patients were randomized to DDD mode at a lower rate of 40 bpm (DDD-40; control arm), or one of the following 2 treatment arms: DDD-70, or DDDR-40. The primary endpoint was a clinical composite endpoint that included all-cause mortality, heart failure events, NYHA functional class, and patient global self-assessment. Subjects were classified as improved, unchanged, or worsened at 12 months. There were 1,433 patients randomized, of whom 66% were male, mean age was 67 ± 11 years, and mean left ventricular ejection fraction was 23 ± 7%. The average follow-up time was 10.5 ± 3.5 months and 1,309 patients contributed to the primary endpoint. No significant differences were observed in the composite endpoint between either of the 2 treatment arms compared to the control arm (P>0.05 for both comparisons). Additionally, there were no differences among the groups in mortality or heart failure events. Conclusion: In advanced heart failure patients treated with CRT, atrial support pacing did not improve clinical outcomes compared to atrial tracking. The paper not only presents two contemporary poets from two different continents, but also their distinct ways of thinking and articulating the lines of their poems with deep conviction and realization. With allegiance to the respective country, each expresses his own construction and vision of the countryside with clarity and warmth . It is a common phenomenon in both Australia and India that the countryside is vanishing very fast with migration, industrialization and urbanisation. Les Murray and Pradip Kumar Patra are very sensible to such devastating phenomena. They express their concern for such havoc and build an alternative world or space in their poetry which the readers could understand and appreciate. The tone of the poets is calm, their emotion is also not fluctuating and thematically they are large and varied. When Patra is meditative like Wordsworth , Murray is imagistic like Keats. Needless to say, both the poets breathe a life of their own to their experiences and perceptions. Their poems , actually , say what imagination is . They just add wings to the realistic elements. Cultural competence is a viewed as a necessary set of skills within nursing, and there is a need for student support in this area. This is particularly important in mental health care, with two skills considered crucial for providing quality care: therapeutic relationship skills and positive attitudes. With the objective of initiating an educational collaboration between two educational institutions, this study examined Australian and Indian undergraduate nursing student's perceived therapeutic relationship skills and stigma attitudes associated with mental illness. Participants were five hundred and fifty-five (n = 555) undergraduate nursing students from two different universities in Indian and Australia. The modified version of the Scale To Assess Therapeutic Relationship (STAR-C) and the Social Distance Scale (SDS) were both used to examine student's perceived therapeutic relationship skills and stigma attitudes. Australian nursing students indicated lower levels of stigma with lower levels of self-reported therapeutic relationships skills, as compared with the Indian nursing student cohort. However, Indian nursing students indicated higher levels of stigma with higher self-reported therapeutic relationship skills. The results of this study may reflect cultural differences and meanings attached to mental illness. • Transnational collaborations may foster cultural competency, skills and attitudes between educational institutions. • This study compared Indian and Australian nursing student attitudes and skills in relation to mental health. • Indian and Australian students differed in their perceived therapeutic relationship skills and attitudes. • Cultural differences in nursing skills and attitudes must be considered to ensure quality transnational care. Offshore frontier sedimentary basins are characterised by a lack of constraining geological and geophysical data. This lack of data is generally the result of deep water (>500 m), difficult geology (volcanics and salt), remoteness and harsh met–ocean conditions. These characteristics present significant challenges to marine surveying, which means that frontier basins tend to be underexplored. With continuing interest in exploration for energy resources in frontier regions, many frontier basins around the world have been the focus of increasingly-sophisticated geophysical studies that integrate a range of methodologies, including those based on potential-field (gravity and magnetic) data. Underexplored frontier basins around Australia's continental margin have received increased attention during the last decade, largely as a result of government-funded programs of precompetitive data acquisition and analysis. The components of this work that have relied heavily on potential-field data include: first-pass depth-to-basement estimation using spectral techniques applied to magnetic data; enhancement of gravity and magnetic images to aid the identification of basin depocentres and to facilitate onshore–offshore geological interpretation of basement structure; multi-scale edge-detection applied to gravity and magnetic data to aid the interpretation of basement structure; 3D forward and stochastic inverse modelling of gravity data to guide seismic interpretation of sediment thickness and basement structure; and using supercomputers for high-resolution, regional-scale 3D inverse modelling of magnetic and gravity data to constrain the physical properties of the crust. Despite the additional insight offered by this work, efforts to understand frontier basins are not without challenges, one of the most fundamental of which is to ensure that non-specialists are not misinterpreting data (e.g. wrongly interpreting artefacts arising from specific processing). The other main challenge in Australian frontier basins arises from a lack of constraints on crustal structure. This leads to significant ambiguity when using gravity data to infer sediment thickness or to understand the nature of basement. This ambiguity could be vastly reduced through the acquisition of seismic refraction data that focuses on imaging crustal structure. Further opportunities exist in using alternative methods for automated depth-to-basement estimation, incorporating process-oriented rather than static potential-field modelling, and in applying 3D forward and inverse gravity and magnetic modelling to other Australian frontier basins.
