Introduction: Medication safety is an important health priority that focuses on preventing harm from medication-related events. Unsafe medication administration practices can lead to errors, which can cause avoidable injury (or harm) to patients., Objectives: This paper reports on an evidence implementation project conducted in a large tertiary hospital in Australia to improve nursing compliance with best practice recommendations for medication administration., Methods: The project was guided by JBI's seven-phase approach to evidence implementation, using audit and feedback and a structured framework to identify barriers, enablers, and implementation strategies., Results: The project resulted in improved compliance with best practice recommendations. This was achieved through multimodal strategies, including education, improved access to resources, and targeted feedback and discussion sessions to encourage culture and behavior change., Conclusions: The project improved nurses' medication administration practices, specifically in performing independent second checks. Collaborative efforts of the project leads facilitated the review of medication administration policy and the development of staff education resources. Introduction: Parental decision regret in hypospadias surgery is a recognised source of long-lasting psycho-social morbidity. High parental decision regret after their child's hypospadias repair is reported. The aim of this study is to report on decision regret in Australian parents, who accepted and declined surgery for their son and explore underlying factors for decision-making, satisfaction, and regret., Materials and Methods: An online anonymous survey was administered to three groups of parents: 1) parents who consented for hypospadias repair, 2) parents who declined repair and 3) a control group who requested circumcision for their child. Operations occurred between 2010 and 2020 in two paediatric hospitals in New South Wales, Australia. The survey included a validated decision regret assessment tool and additional questions to explore the possible basis of the opinions., Results: One hundred and eighteen parents (invited - 381, completed - 116, response rate - 31%) participated in the survey. Decision regret was present in group 1 (n = 89) - 55% (moderate-to-severe 15%), in group 2 (n = 14) - 71% (moderate-to-severe 57%), and in the control group (n = 15) - 15% (moderate-to-severe 8%) of parents. There was a significant difference in the median decision regret score between all three groups. Parents who chose hypospadias repair were mostly concerned about function., Conclusions: The prevalence of decision regret among Australian parents who consented for their son's hypospadias repair was lower compared with the mean decision regret reported in the literature to date (55% vs 65%). Decision regret and its severity were highest among parents who declined hypospadias repair. Introduction: COVID-19 has seen unprecedented changes to the daily occupational lives of citizens across the globe as a result social and physical restrictions. Frontline healthcare workers health and wellbeing have been impacted but what of occupational balance? The aim of this study was to investigate if there was a change in the occupational balance of occupational therapists working in a metropolitan hospital during a COVID-19 lockdown., Methods: All occupational therapists working in a metropolitan hospital were invited to participate in an online survey. Occupational Balance was measured using the Occupational Balance Questionnaire-11 (OBQ11). Participants retrospectively rated their occupational balance before COVID-19 restrictions were in place and again rated their current status during the restrictions. Participants were also asked to comment on strategies used to help them during the COVID-19 restrictions., Results: Forty-two occupational therapists completed the survey. The mean total score prior to the COVID-19 restrictions was 19.4 and during restrictions was 19.0 (Z = -0.4, p = 0.68). There was a significant decrease in having sufficient to do during the COVID-19 restrictions (Z = -3.6, p < 0.001). Satisfaction with how time was spent in rest, recovery and sleep significantly increased during the restrictions (Z = -3.3, p = 0.001). Strategies used included engaging in valued activities, finding alternate ways of doing and showing gratitude., Conclusion: Occupational balance of occupational therapists remained high and satisfaction in how time was spent improved during COVID-19 restrictions. This article examines how particular understandings of trauma as a systemic form of psychosocial harm framed the establishment of the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, informed its successful investigatory process, and shaped its recommendations and outcomes. In so doing, the Royal Commission makes an important contribution to the field of trauma studies, which has been characterized by contested histories and is subject to continuing debate in clinical and academic research. For much of the twentieth century, trauma and its impacts have been typically articulated through a bio-medical discourse of individual harm and health outcomes. We argue that the establishment of the Royal Commission reflected an expanded understanding of trauma, constitutive of moral, political and psychological arenas as evidenced in its methodology, conceptual approach and treatment of survivor testimony. We also argue that the institutionalization of an historically situated and politically engaged approach to trauma within the Royal Commission itself was effective in contesting narrow psychological or juridical concepts of harm by developing approaches to trauma as a system of harm with complex impacts on families, communities and indeed the nation. We evaluate the implications and consequences of this shift in the work of the Royal Commission, with particular attention to the development of an interdisciplinary relational approach to the study of trauma as a key principle in the emergence of a trauma-informed culture., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. For over a decade, the Medical Schools Outcomes Database and Longitudinal Tracking Project (MSOD) has collected data from medical students in Australia and New Zealand. This project aims to explore how individual student background or attributes might interact with curriculum or early postgraduate training to affect eventual career choice and location. In New Zealand, over 4,000 students have voluntarily provided information at various time points, and the project is at a stage where some firm conclusions are starting to be drawn.
