This article discusses the implementation of evidence-based library and information practice. Factors are discussed including intervention complexity, facilitation strategies and participant responsiveness, which may be responsible for variations in the effectiveness of the same program in different areas. Also discussed is the differences that evidence-based library and information practices can have in areas as close as Edmonton and Newcastle, England and as far away as Edmonton, Canada to New Castle, Australia.

The article examines how a group of staff from the Central Coast Health Library Services in Australia followed the five steps of evidence-based library and information practice (EBLIP) within a typical area of library activity. First, they recognize the need to develop a climate for EBLIP. EBLIP involves the integration of evidence from research studies with reports from library users and the observations of library staff. Evaluation of the rigor and relevance of the evidence, typically employing checklists as tools for a consistent approach across studies, is also applied in the process.
