The monophyly of Boronia (Rutaceae) was tested using 134 accessions of 120 species belonging to 39 genera from subfamily Amyridoideae. Taxa included representatives of all eight sections of Boronia plus species of most genera in the two main clades related to Boronia that had been identified by earlier studies. These samples included a good representation of genera from both rainforest and sclerophyllous biomes. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian inference analyses were performed using three plastid markers (psbA‐trnH, trnL‐trnF, rbcL) and two nuclear ribosomal markers (ITS, ETS). Separate analyses of plastid and nuclear sequences using either maximum parsimony or Bayesian inference analyses recovered similar topologies. Apart from Boronia, the broad generic relationships of previous analyses were largely supported. Boronia is polyphyletic with section Cyanothamnus being more closely related to a large clade containing genera found in rainforest, including Melicope, Acronychia and their relatives. The remaining seven sections of Boronia formed a strongly supported and isolated group. Boronia sensu stricto is sister to a clade containing the Cyanothamnus‐Melicope‐Acronychia clade plus a clade containing Euodia, Zieria and other small genera found in rainforest or sclerophyllous communities. Issues with circumscriptions of ingroups and outgroups for previous analyses of Boronia and the complex relationship between Australasian genera found in rainforest and sclerophyllous communities are both discussed. Cyanothamnus is reinstated at generic level. Appropriate nomenclatural changes are made to transfer all currently recognised series, species, subspecies and varieties of Boronia sect. Aim The aim was to characterize the temporal dynamics of the Sahul-Sunda floristic exchange using published dated molecular phylogenies. Location The Sahul and Sunda shelves in Australasia and Southeast Asia. Methods Dated molecular phylogenies were compiled from the literature for plant clades that contained at least one node representing a biogeographical disjunction between the Sahul and Sunda shelves. For these nodes the age, ancestral geographical area and propagule type were determined. Results We analysed 49 clades from 21 published phylogenies representing a diverse set of angiosperm lineages. The inferred age of the disjunctions ranged from c. 33 Ma to c. 1 Ma; the earliest age marked the onset of the Sahul-Sunda floristic exchange. Disjunctions (resulting from dispersal/migration events) occurred at the rate of 0.41 per 2 Myr between 34 and 12 Ma. Thereafter the rate sharply increased, coincident with the shelves effectively merging. For nearly two-thirds (63%) of the nodes Sunda was the ancestral area, and for 90% the ancestral species possessed zoochorous propagules. Main conclusions There is strong support for a dynamic model of floristic exchange between Sahul and Sunda. Fewer (18%) disjunctions occurred prior to Sahul and Sunda merging around 12 Ma, which we attribute to a combination of the effect of overwater dispersal barriers and relatively stable, saturated species assemblages resistant to the establishment of newly arrived lineages. The exchange, once underway, was strongly asymmetrical; eastwards migration into Sahul predominated over the reverse by a factor of c. 2.4. As zoochorous lineages were overrepresented among the successful dispersers, we infer a strong role for localized animal dispersal across narrow water barriers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Australasian region contains a significant proportion of worldwide Poa diversity, but the evolutionary relationships of taxa from this region are incompletely understood. Most Australasian species have been placed in a monophyletic Poa subgenus, Poa supersection Homalopoa section Brizoides clade, but with limited resolution of relationships. In this study, phylogenetic relationships were reconstructed for Australasian Poa, using three plastid ( rbc L and mat K genes and the rpl32-trn L intergenic spacer) and two nuclear [internal/external transcribed spacer ( ITS/ ETS)] markers. Seventy-five Poa spp. were represented (including 42 Australian, nine New Guinean, nine New Zealand and three Australian/ New Zealand species). Maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference criteria were applied for phylogenetic reconstruction. Divergence dates were estimated using Bayesian inference, with a relaxed clock applied and rates sampled from an uncorrelated log-normal distribution. Australasian Poa spp. are placed in three lineages (section Brizoides, section Parodiochloa and the ' X clade'), each of which is closely related to non- Australasian taxa or clades. Section Brizoides subsection Australopoa is polyphyletic as currently circumscribed. Abstract: The relationships of the microsoroid ferns were studied using a DNA sequence-based phylogenetic approach. Nucleotide sequences for up to four chloroplast genome regions were assembled for 107 samples from 87 species. Microsoroids s.l. include six lineages of which two are species rich. The results indicate that several genera are not monophyletic (e.g. Microsorum), several controversial genera are confirmed to be monophyletic (e.g. Leptochilus), and some genera new to science should be recognized (M. membranaceum clade). Unique insights were gained into the biogeographic history of this highly diverse epiphytic vascular plant lineage that is widespread in continental Asia to Australasia. Evidence was found for splits into lineages diversifying in parallel in continental Asia and Malesia. No evidence was recovered for an African radiation because all African microsoroid species either also are found in Asia or have sister species in continental Asia. In contrast, evidence for independent radiations were discovered for the Australasian region. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
