Atlanta in Georgia was severely hit by a recession in 2001. Experts seem to differ on whether Atlanta's economy remains in recession or has turned on to path of recovery. The Atlanta economy lost 70,000 jobs in 2002. Employment in transportation, business services and telecommunications have been the hardest hit sectors. Economic growth of Metro Atlanta may be affected by factors like local transportation system and water distribution systems. The health-care industry was one of Metro Atlanta's bright spots in 2002 and will continue to shine in 2003. Financial services and insurance and management consulting in the region should turn positive in terms of employment.
