The article discusses issues related to disarmament agreements for the Arctic area. It is said that Arctic region may provide a useful area in which the initial stages of a disarmament can be developed because it is believed that its military value is relatively less than that of many other regions. Arctic region is also considered to be the only region of the globe where the U.S. and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics adjoin each other, thus, it believed to provide a special opportunity to negotiate a disarmament agreement free of many of the complexities which is believed to arise if it involved many other nations. The three specific examples of increasingly general disarmament agreements for the Arctic area are also discussed in the article.
