The village and the agrotourist area presents itself as an area of real attraction, where are meat all the elements specific to the local development. The agrotourist activity and the economic and social development of rural area are in a relationship of correspondence and reciprocity. So, the intensification of tourism activity is the result of the general development of the rural areas, development which is also determined at his term by the development of tourism. The potential of rural areas represents an advantage with wide implications, determined by the environment in which it unfolds the current economic and social life. The tourist potential of the area or tourist site can be defined as the "all natural, culturalhistorical, economic and social components, scientifically, quantitatively and qualitatively recognized and proven by practice and which presents opportunities for tourist capitalization and give certain functionality for tourism ". The Romanian village, whether we speak about the traditional one or about the one with tourist vocation, is a special tourist product of the national tourist market and especially of the international one. Also, the Romanian village with tourist valences can represents a way of identifying our country as a tourist destination with a large tourist offer. The mountain area of Arad County comprises the eastern half of the studied area and is remarked by the presence of two mountain massifs: the Codru-Moma Mountains and the Zarand Mountains. In the present paper it is tried to highlight the specific characteristics of the mountainous rural area with agrotouristic vocation, of Arad County. The attractiveness of the rural area for practicing agrotourism was the basis for the organization and development of tourism products and an infrastructure suitable for rural tourism. The natural and anthropic resources of the picturesque mountain areas, the flora and fauna variety, the mineral and thermal water springs, the hunting and rich hunting grounds, as well as the elements of architecture, folk art and folklore offer a great opportunity for practicing rural tourism.
