The article focuses on the struggle for leadership in the Middle East, between Communists and the Arab nationalists. The Communists want to share power, and ultimately to take over, while the Arab nationalists have no intention of giving up their positions. Up to the Baghdad revolution, all this might have been considered somewhat academic because Communism was not yet a major force in the Arab world. Since then everything has changed, and what was a long-term perspective has now become a topical problem of decisive importance.
