Abstract

The article presents a study which investigates on the use of radar diagnosis to determine the subglacial condition in Dronning Maud Land in East Antarctica. The study was performed to three ground-based and pulse-modulated radar sounders, wherein two radar sounders have a centre frequency of 179MHz. The study shows that returned power decreases in the area as ice becomes thicker.

Abstract

The article presents a study on the spatio-temporal variability of snow accumulation rate on the ice divide between Dome Fuji Station and the European Project for Ice Coring in Antarctica (EPICA) Dronning Maud Land (DML). It mentions the dependence of surface mass balance (SMB) on elevation and continentality. It also notes its influence from interactions between the large-scale surface topography and strong-wind events which are often linked with high-precipitation.
