The life history traits (egg, larva, and pupa stage) of the Lycaenidae butterfly, Luthrodes pandava Horsfield (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) observed and trapped on cycad plants are described from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (ANI), India. The diversity of cycad host plants offered as larval food influences fecundity and conservation status. Crotalaria andamanica F. Saleem, L.J. Singh, & A. K. Pandey is described and illustrated as a new species from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The habitat, ecology, distribution and conservation status are briefly discussed. The new species closely resembles with the species of the section Calycinae Wight & Arnott (1834), C. acicularis Buch.-Ham. ex Benth. and C. prostrata Rottler ex Willd. but differs in morphological characters like habit up to 150 cm, densely hairy, leaf 10-20 mm long, acute at apex, obtuse at base, ensiform stipule, 4-8 number of flowers per inflorescence, calyx equal, hairy, attenuate, standard obovate, apex retuse, pod elliptic. Crotalaria nicobarica, a new species from Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India is described and illustrated along with conservation status. This new species closely resembles C. lunulata Heyne ex Wight and Arn., C. paniculata Willd. and C. ramosissima Roxb. which occurs in western and eastern peninsular India and occupies forest edges and cut‐slopes of hillocks, but the new species is distinct in morphology of vegetative and reproductive characters from all previously known species. Based on its hairyness, persistent bracts and bracteoles, silky pubescence of vexillum and style, and oblong stalked pods, the species is referred to C. sect. Crotalaria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Luthrodes pandava Horsfield (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) has been reported as a pest of cycad plants in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India for the first time. Its impact on host species is assessed. Compared to introduced species, endemic cycads appear to be most susceptible to damage by its larvae, feeding on the plant and affecting growth. Larvae damage all above‐ground plant parts. In the present study, we have re-visited Musa taxonomy based on morphological and molecular data. DNA sequence data (ITS, trnL-F) and population assessment reveal that Musa balbisiana var. andamanica and Musa sabuana should be synonymized under Musa balbisiana. Based on the present work, we recognize four species of Musa namely M. acuminata, M. balbisiana, M. indandamanensis, and M. paramjitiana in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
