Abstract

The article discusses the phytogeography of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in India with reference to the discovery of Hornstedtia fenzlii (Kurz) K. Schum plant. It notes that biological organisms of the islands are continental in origin and have evolved into the present status from a totally balanced continental biosystem through evolution of over million years. It cites that H. fenzlii (Kurz) K. Schum is the honey bee repellent plant species used by the Shompen tribes for honey collection.
